00:01On July 31, we celebrate Saint Ignatius of Loyola, a soldier who became the founder of the Jesuits,
00:09a man of fire, at once mystic, strategist and missionary.
00:14Born in 1491 in the Spanish Basque country, Ignatius was initially a nobleman drawn to military glory.
00:24Seriously wounded during the siege of Pamplona, he underwent a long convalescence during which he read the lives of saints.
00:33This reading changes everything.
00:34He decides to dedicate himself to God, leaving behind his earthly ambitions.
00:42Ignatius retired to Manres to pray, fast and write the spiritual exercises,
00:49a demanding path of discernment and inner conversion.
00:55It was there that he received his deepest mystical intuitions, guided by the contemplation of Christ.
01:02After studying in Paris, he founded the Society of Jesus with his companions.
01:07Ordained a priest, Ignatius sent missionaries throughout the world.
01:12The motto “Ad majorem Dei gloriam” for the greater glory of God.
01:20He settled in Rome and devoted his last years to writing, guiding and structuring the order.
01:27By the time of his death in 1556, the Jesuits already had hundreds of members.
01:34His spiritual influence continues to mark the Church.
01:38Saint Ignatius teaches us to discern everything in the light of Christ.
01:44He is the patron saint of spiritual retreats, spiritual directors and educators.
01:53Prayer of Abandonment
01:55Take, Lord, and receive all my freedom, my memory, my intelligence and all my will, all that I have and possess.
02:06You gave it to me, to you, Lord, I return it.
02:10Everything is yours, to dispose of according to your complete will.
02:15Give me only your love and grace.
02:18That's enough for me.
02:21Amen.
