01:11The First Days
01:13June 18, 2020 started like any other day. In Millbrook, New York, the town gathered for a
01:19Little League baseball game.
01:20First time through the order? Third. Third? What inning of this? Fifth. Oh boy.
01:27Miles away, the terminally ill Sam and her emotional support cat Frodo were escorted to Manhattan,
01:34attending a marionette performance with her fellow hospice patients. Knowing that her cancer would soon
01:39take its toll, Sam hoped to grab a slice from Patsy's Pizzeria, a staple from her childhood.
01:44We have to head back now. Why? Something's happening in the city and they want us back ASAP.
01:50But we're getting pizza first. No, we're gonna have to rain check the pizza.
01:55Pizza would have to wait, as meteors rained from above, marking the arrival of aliens known as Death Angels.
02:02This event wasn't restricted to New York.
02:05This is a mandatory evacuation order. We remain under attack.
02:10Seek shelter on water. The attackers cannot swim.
02:14The Death Angels landed in at least 127 sites around the world, from Los Angeles to London to Shanghai.
02:21The largest meteor hit Mexico, however. The Death Angels came from a distant planet without light.
02:27Adapting to their surroundings, these creatures might not be able to see,
02:30but they possess highly sensitive hearing and skin stronger than armor.
02:35What is happening?
02:40As the Death Angels ravaged Millbrook, it didn't take long for Lee Abbott to realize that keeping
02:45quiet is the key to survival. Since Lee's daughter Regan is deaf,
02:49the Abbott family learned sign language, giving them an advantage.
02:52Back in New York, Sam found shelter with a group of survivors. Among them was Henry,
03:03who also picked up on the aliens' advanced hearing. As some refused to stay quiet,
03:08Henry was forced to get blood on his hands to protect his family.
03:11The military destroyed all bridges out of Manhattan.
03:30Although this isolated the Death Angels, it also trapped the survivors.
03:35Sam never planned on escaping from the city, however. With her days limited even before the
03:39aliens landed, Sam just wanted to visit Patsy's one last time. She set out with Frodo,
03:45who wasn't the only member of her fellowship. She encountered an English law student named Eric,
03:50who had the good instincts to follow her.
03:51Look, let's just get out of the room, okay?
03:57Sam noticed details others missed, finding that people could talk around running water without
04:02attracting the creatures. This helped them reach Patsy's, which was sadly already destroyed.
04:07Returning the favor for constantly saving his life, Eric located another pizza joint and
04:12delighted Sam with a magic show.
04:25The only thing left on Sam's bucket list was getting Eric and Frodo to safety.
04:30Thankfully, a boat was departing Manhattan with Henry's family already on board.
04:34According to Henry, other boats were trying to rescue people,
04:38but due to mass hysteria, only a couple got out of Manhattan.
04:42Be safe.
04:49Eric and Frodo narrowly reached the boat while a Death Angel drowned trying to catch them.
04:54Sam remained behind, but she could die contently knowing what it felt like to live again.
04:59Listening to Feeling Good, she accepted death as others around the world struggled to survive.
05:05It's good to have been back.
05:12The invasion continues.
05:14By September 14th, 2020, Millbrook was virtually abandoned.
05:19The Abbots made it through 89 days, living on their farm outside town.
05:23They left a trail of sand between their farm and town to pick up supplies.
05:27The family took numerous precautions, walking without shoes on,
05:31avoiding crunchy food like chips, and not letting the kids play with noisy toys.
05:36Regan took pity on her youngest sibling, Beau, giving him a toy rocket ship.
05:41To the family's horror, Beau put batteries in the ship,
05:44attracting a Death Angel and sealing his fate.
05:49Meanwhile, college student Alex Taylor, who has asthma,
05:52and her boyfriend Martin Edwards were also struggling to survive in this new post-apocalyptic world.
05:58This is the premise of the video game A Quiet Place The Road Ahead,
06:02set shortly after day 100 of the invasion.
06:05Like the Abbots, Alex and Martin relied on stealth to survive,
06:08unaware that the Death Angels had a major vulnerability,
06:11one that Regan Abbott was about to discover.
06:14Back on the Abbots' farm,
06:16Lee's wife Evelyn became pregnant again shortly after Beau's death,
06:19giving the Abbots nine months to plan for the baby's arrival.
06:22October 2, 2021, day 472 of the invasion,
06:27would be Lee's last peaceful night with his family.
06:30They enjoyed a cooked vegetable dinner and played Monopoly,
06:33but even that ended in a close call.
06:35The next day, Lee took his eldest son Marcus to a waterfall,
06:39having realized that it blocked out other sounds.
06:42Regan, still feeling guilty about Beau,
06:44visited her brother's grave.
06:45Left alone, Evelyn unexpectedly went into labor,
06:49and further complicating matters, stepped on a nail.
06:57Meanwhile, Lee and Marcus encountered a man and his late wife in the woods.
07:01Unable to go on, the man drew out a Death Angel as Lee and Marcus fled.
07:06The farm wasn't much safer,
07:08as Evelyn became trapped with a Death Angel lurking around the house.
07:11Evelyn managed to turn the farm's red lights on,
07:13alerting Lee and Marcus of the danger.
07:16They distracted the Death Angel by lighting fireworks,
07:19which also signaled Regan.
07:20Lee discovered Evelyn and their newborn,
07:23escorting them to a soundproof hiding spot in the barn.
07:25As the hiding place flooded, though,
07:27Evelyn and her baby had to seek refuge elsewhere.
07:30Reuniting,
07:31Regan and Marcus endured multiple close encounters with the Death Angel.
07:35As his children found themselves backed into a tight space,
07:38Lee made the ultimate sacrifice.
07:39Attracting the creature so Regan and Marcus could get away,
07:57the kids headed to the basement with their mother,
07:59but the Death Angel wasn't far behind.
08:01Regan noticed earlier that the alien backed off
08:03when her cochlear implant made a high-pitched sound.
08:06She intensified the noise by putting her implant on a microphone,
08:16revealing the creature's weak spot beneath its armor.
08:19Evelyn blew the alien away with a shotgun,
08:22turning the tables in humanity's favor.
08:28Somewhere beyond the sea,
08:30the Abbotts had no time to celebrate
08:32with other Death Angels on the way.
08:34The family embarked to find other survivors and spread the news.
08:47Following another near-death experience,
08:50the Abbotts were rescued by Emmett,
08:52an old friend who lost his family during the invasion.
08:55Emmett took them to his hideout underneath a factory
08:57when the song Beyond the Sea had been playing on the radio.
08:59It's beyond the sea.
09:02Have you heard this?
09:03Yes.
09:07It's the same song that's been playing over and over the last four months.
09:11Regan deduced that the song was a signal
09:13originating from an island with a radio tower.
09:16If they could reach it,
09:17Regan could broadcast her implant's high-pitched frequency,
09:20weakening the Death Angels on a wider scale.
09:23Regan and a hesitant Emmett set out,
09:25while Evelyn and Marcus remained behind with the baby.
09:28Regan and Emmett made it to the docks
09:30where feral bandits confronted them.
09:41Emmett managed to subdue them by making noise,
09:44although this created another problem.
09:46Falling into the water,
09:48Emmett discovered that the creatures can't swim.
09:50Of course, he wasn't the first one to realize this.
09:53Arriving at the island,
09:54Emmett and Regan met a colony of survivors,
09:57including Henry.
09:58I'm not sure anyone here can actually believe it.
10:02I think most people had finally given up hope.
10:06Their peaceful existence would be intermitted
10:08as another Death Angel stowed away to the island.
10:11With time running out,
10:12Henry escorted Regan and Emmett to the radio station.
10:15Henry was presumably killed in the process,
10:17but his death would not be in vain.
10:20Regan planted her hearing aid on a microphone,
10:22allowing her to slay one Death Angel,
10:24while Marcus protected his family against another.
