00:39Parasite Eve
00:50When looking at horror games that could be considered underrated or not loved or appreciated
00:55enough, many come up with a game like Dino Crisis or Siren, but rarely is Parasite Eve brought
01:00into the conversation.
01:01Though it is an RPG, this game does have enough disturbing imagery and dark themes to place
01:06it under the horror genre.
01:07While the game did manage to sell a couple million copies worldwide, and would see a
01:19sequel and a spin-off, Square Enix left Parasite Eve by the wayside as it continued focusing
01:24on other, much bigger IPs, like Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts.
01:28And now, Parasite Eve hasn't been relevant since the PS1 days and the PSP spin-off, The
01:33Third Birthday.
01:34Didn't exactly move units.
01:35I'm Special Agent Aya Brea, and my final mission is about to begin.

01:41The Suffering
01:42Nothing compares to the deep satisfaction of terminating a human life.
01:47You already know that, don't you?
01:51Silent Hill and Manhunt were sort of the dominant horror games during the PS2 days, but one that
01:56few remember today is The Suffering.
01:58You play as Tork, a prisoner on death row who has no memory of the crimes he committed.
02:03When an earthquake hits the prison, mysterious forces begin wreaking havoc, giving you the
02:07opportunity to make your escape.
02:0910.
02:10Well, well, well, look what we have here.
02:13How long I have been waiting to encounter such a fascinating experiment.
02:18The Suffering was one of those games many described as not for the faint of heart, and
02:22despite its age, the visuals can be gruesome to witness.
02:25We did get a sequel a year later, but it failed to impress critics and fans of the original,
02:29resulting in the loss of millions of dollars for publisher Midway Games.
02:33And so, The Suffering remains in its own little corner on PC via GOG.com.

02:37I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream
02:42Night Dive Studios has gone full force on bringing old FPS and horror games forward to
03:01modern hardware.
03:02But in 2013, one of their first projects was bringing forward, I Have No Mouth and I Must
03:07Scream.
03:08Based on the 1967 short story by Harlan Ellison, I Have No Mouth puts you in the role of five
03:13characters, each with their own stories and paths to explore as they endure the torment
03:18inflicted by a malicious artificial intelligence called AM.
03:21For 109 years, I've kept you alive, so that I could savor your feelings and guilt for what
03:28happened to your life.
03:30Though you can still play it on PC with the newest computers, it has been quite a long
03:34time since this title was celebrated for its dark yet often thought-provoking themes.
03:39Perhaps a console port could bring this brilliantly morbid game back into the limelight for a bit.
03:43If you've never heard of this gem, it's probably because the Kinect had an infamous reputation
04:05by the time Haunt launched.
04:07This was one of the few games on the Kinect where the controls actually worked while providing
04:11fun gameplay.
04:12Players had to actually use their full body in order to explore a mysterious mansion and
04:16survive its devious demons.
04:27It was a clever one in design and theme, but as mentioned before, the Kinect was already
04:31deemed a device unfit for gamers as the console had become known for its ocean of horribly optimized
04:37games with poor controls.
04:38Haunt was unfairly left to drown in that ocean, which only hurts more when you learn that the
04:43creator of Parappa the Rapper was behind this title.
04:496.
04:53Condemned 2 Bloodshot
05:05Condemned does get talked about every now and again, but more often than not, all anyone
05:09can mention is the first game, Condemned Criminal Origins.
05:12It makes us wonder if anyone has even played the sequel.
05:15Condemned 2 was just as captivating as its predecessor with its heavy themes and haunting environments.
05:19While creator Jace Hall has stated that the series sold well, the hesitance in making a third
05:31game has sort of forced Condemned 2 to fade into obscurity.
05:34It doesn't help that the game isn't available on modern hardware under any circumstances.
05:475.
05:48Call of Cthulhu Dark Corners of the Earth
05:49You alright there, sir?
05:51It's starting to look kind of funny there for a while.
05:55Face as white as bone and eyes as black as coal, like it's seen a ghost or something.
06:01Published by Bethesda Softworks, Call of Cthulhu Dark Corners of the Earth was one of the most
06:05garish games that will haunt our memory forever, and of course we mean that in a good way.
06:10Developer Head First Productions did an incredible job at creating an unsettling environment and
06:14setting up unexpected events.
06:17Unfortunately, Dark Corners of the Earth never caught on with audiences.
06:27Part of this reason can be attributed to it when it was released and on what platforms.
06:31The only console the game released on was the original Xbox, and 2005 wasn't exactly
06:36a great time for PC gaming.
06:37And so Dark Corners of the Earth went largely unnoticed, only selling a little more than
06:425,000 copies before the end of the year.
06:44Sleep well, and keep down the racket.
06:48Us Innsmouth are quiet folk.
06:524.
06:53Nightmare Creatures
06:54Even though it may not have been great on PC or N64, Nightmare Creatures truly shined
07:07on the original PlayStation console.
07:09Despite its wonky controls and camera, Nightmare Creatures was a truly creative horror game
07:13with its enemy variety, environments, and set pieces.
07:17The game was even successful enough to get a sequel in 2000, but here's what made the
07:28public forget about Nightmare Creatures so quickly.
07:30First, the sequel was a major step down as the horror aspect took a back seat in favor
07:35of the action.
07:36Second, the PS1 horror games that dominate the conversation almost every time are Resident
07:41Evil and Silent Hill.
07:42Nightmare Creatures might have been a solid title, but it simply did not make a big enough
07:46impact to remain relevant.
07:48It doesn't help that the third game was cancelled.
07:56Number 3.
07:57Koudelka
07:58I'm confused.
07:59So you really are an angel?
08:00Don't be foolish.
08:01Do you really think that there are angels on Earth?
08:05Much like Parasite Eve, Koudelka was an unorthodox blend of RPG and horror, two genres that really
08:10don't go together.
08:12After all, how do you maintain being scary under a turn-based structure?
08:16Well, Koudelka kept the horror tied to its story and enemy design, while staying true
08:20to traditional RPG combat.
08:23Sadly, critics weren't too pleased with the game, some claiming the game was unbalanced
08:34and poorly paced.
08:35Koudelka has been left stranded on the PS1, while folks continue remembering another horror
08:39RPG series.
08:40The game would inspire.
08:41You're likely to hear more about Shadow Hearts these days.
08:46So don't forget.
08:47If you want to get out of here alive, I suggest you stick very close.
08:53Got it?
08:54Number 2.
08:55Hell Knight
08:59If you have never heard or played Hell Knight before, well, that's because it was only
09:07ever released in Japan and Europe.
09:09Hell Knight tasked players in uncovering the secrets of an enigmatic cult, while avoiding
09:13zombies in Tokyo's dark and foreboding subway tunnels.
09:18Reviews for the game were mixed, as some critics praised the game's intimidating nature, while
09:28others scrutinized it for not letting the players see enough action.
09:31No matter which way you feel about how critics treated the game, Hell Knight's limited release
09:35definitely is a huge factor in why no one ever talks about it today.
09:45Number 1.
09:46Clive Barker's Undying Legendary horror writer Clive Barker is often
09:58revered for Hellraiser and Candyman.
10:00Many might even recognize his name from the 2007 video game Clive Barker's Jericho.
10:05However, few ever seem to remember Clive Barker's Undying.
10:09Undying was captivating with its World War I setting and dark fantasy elements, as players
10:13investigated a malicious cult and the supposed demon king they worshipped.
10:28But as we saw with Call of Cthulhu Dark Corners of the Earth, the 2000s wasn't a great time
10:32for PC gaming, as consoles were dominating the gaming market.
10:36And so, the poor sales led to Undying's multiplayer expansion and console ports getting canned.
10:41Image becomes reality!
10:43He will rise again!
10:46The ritual continues through our blood.
10:50So, which of these horror games would you like to see get ported forward to modern hardware?
10:54Let us know down in the comments and be sure to subscribe to WatchMojo for more great videos.
10:59Mommy bites!
11:00Daddy says you gotta keep her up there for her own good!
11:04Excuse me?
11:07If you enjoyed the video, there's more where that came from.
