00:00Israel is now eyeing three key areas in agriculture to address both extreme climate and food insecurity,
00:06namely innovative farming solutions, aquaculture and food technology.
00:11This latest joint effort strengthens the partnership to enhance the country's food production and bring down cost.
00:17Our Denise Osorio has the details in this report.
00:22In the face of ongoing threats of climate change and food insecurity,
00:26Israel stands as a key partner of the Philippines in the field of agriculture.
00:31According to Department of Economy, Planning and Development Secretary Arsenio Balisacan,
00:36Israeli agricultural technologies hold significant potential in enhancing local food production and bringing down the cost of food.
00:44What I'm saying is that the efforts of government are built on improving productivity and innovations like what they have,
00:54producing more out of very limited resources is what we need here, especially management of water.
01:03Secretary Balisacan stressed this will not be an easy or instant solution,
01:07as the differences in climate and soil between Israel and the Philippines require careful study and adaptation.
01:14Vanjie Goh, a horticulturist and owner of a plant nursery in Quezon City,
01:19explained the most critical factor in cultivating crops is proper irrigation.
01:24Ang nakikita mong magagandang chili ngayon or magagandang capsicum are already produced in greenhouses.
01:31So that any time of the year, they can produce through using the technology from Israel.
01:38When you are into irrigation, kasi nakaprogram na rin yan eh,
01:42so you don't need so much labor already.
01:45You can do it eh.
01:46The greenhouse can suffice by itself and can produce by itself by minimal monitoring.
01:55Vanjie added that better technology and improved crop management will lead to higher yields in fruit and vegetable production.
02:02In turn, this means greater income for local farmers.
02:05Secretary Balisacan also emphasized the importance of collaboration between scientists and entrepreneurs
02:12from both nations to ensure Israeli technologies are effectively tailored to meet the needs of Filipino farmers.
02:19There, you know, they can grow food in the desert.
02:23Our trust is to make technologies, to invite or to attract technologies that fit into the ecosystem of small farmers.
02:33Our ecosystem in rural areas, in agriculture, is built on small systems, you know, small farming.
02:41Israel is currently focusing on three key areas of agriculture.
02:45Innovative farming solutions, aquaculture, and food technology.
02:49According to Israeli Minister of Economy and Industry, Nir Barkat,
02:53there are 750 Israeli companies and 22 research facilities working to improve food production through technology,
03:01many of which are ready to share their expertise with the Philippines.
03:04Beyond cutting-edge and cost-efficient tools,
03:07the Philippine government is also keen to encourage more young people to consider careers in agriculture.
03:12You will see more and more AI-driven crop diagnosis,
03:19autonomous harvesting, satellite monitoring that you can learn and improve the capabilities of creating food,
03:28a lot of mobile solutions for smart farmers,
03:33a lot of initiatives in alternative proteins into the future,
03:37waste-reduction technologies, and many, many more.
03:43According to the Department of Trade and Industry,
03:45assisting the agricultural sector will also benefit other industries,
03:49contributing to overall economic recovery.
03:52We are very much interested in their technology,
03:56how they do the agriculture, how they do the aqua technology,
03:59how they do the cybersecurity, and they have the renewable energy, and so many others.
04:05Secretary Roque added that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s vision
04:09is to create high-quality, well-paid employment opportunities for Filipinos.
04:14Once we get into technology, the jobs that are being offered are high-paying jobs.
04:19So kahit pa paano, yung mga Pilipino magle-level up na po sila.
04:23We can expect now better jobs, better paying jobs for our Filipinos.
04:28Denise Osorio for the National Television Network for a new and better Philippines.
