00:00A stomach bug plagued the U.S. swim team ahead of a major competition.
00:05USA Swimming confirmed multiple athletes sat out the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore
00:12after contracting acute gastroenteritis at their Thailand training camp.
00:18A rep told NPR July 27th their medical staff was treating those experiencing symptoms
00:24and advising the team on further preventative and recovery measures.
00:28Per the CDC, the condition's common symptoms surround stomach pain, diarrhea, vomiting, and nausea.
00:36The organization stopped short of sharing which swimmers were affected,
00:40but two high-profile Paris Olympians were noticeably absent at events, Claire Weinstein,
00:46as well as Gretchen Walsh, who was back in the pool on July 28th earning gold with a record-breaking performance.
00:54Speaking with NBC Sports post-race, Gretchen saying of her previous missed event,
01:00I just had to use the break I had.
01:02Luckily, we had a standby for the relay.
01:05I wanted to be on it so bad, but my body would not let me.
01:09In the aftermath, Gretchen stepped out the next day, quote,
