00:00This factory in Kulai houses Merlin Magic Making, the Asia-Pacific headquarters for Lego model production.
00:12It's here that 91 skilled craftspeople transform millions of plastic bricks into architectural marvels.
00:19From towering skyscrapers to intricate cultural landmarks,
00:23every piece that graces Legoland Minilands across the region begins its journey here.
00:28For Miniland, when we want to open a new Legoland Park, it takes as much as three years.
00:34That means from the research point to decide what cluster we want to develop in terms of the layout,
00:40and what models we want to put, approval, branding and all, it takes three years.
00:45The team's last project was to deliver 529 replicas for Miniland in Legoland Shanghai, which just opened in July.
00:53Their next major project is a Singapore-themed Miniland in Legoland Malaysia.
01:01The 16 models took about 16,000 hours to complete using 1.5 million Lego bricks.
01:08The scale of these projects is also staggering.
01:11Take their Marina Bay Sands replica, standing 4 meters tall, weighing over 1.4 tons, and requiring 260 kilograms of internal steel reinforcement.
01:23I think the most challenging one is the Marina Bay Sands.
01:27Because we have never built such model before, which means that usually a tower will have one tower, just one single tower.
01:35But for YMBS case, we have three towers and also a big ship on top, which is the Skydeck.
01:43So planning it was really difficult because it really takes all the thinking power from the designers and also the animators to get everything in place.
01:56The replicas aren't just architectural copies.
01:59The team travels to each location, capturing thousands of photographs day and night, studying everything from building colours to local culture.
02:07We don't just take pictures of the landmarks and buildings, but the entire essence of the city in general.
02:13So, what cars they drive there? What do the people that do on their daily basis?
02:20Even to the point of what sort of trash bins, benches or even bus stops that they have there?
02:27If I may add, so not only on the day pictures, on my department where I produce lights for the building,
02:35we need to see how it looks like at night so that we can replicate as much as we can for the lights.
02:43And also sound, do they have buses, motorcycle, what kind of motorcycle, was it scooter?
02:49Because I have a team who create the ambient sound which requires all those details.
02:59So, up to that detail we are going to, in order to replicate the city, not just only the looks but also the ambient sound.
03:10Besides being structurally stable, the replicas must also be visually striking.
03:15The first thing that came in mind is what is the main attractive things that guests have to catch their eyeballs.
03:21What is the main thing? So, it's the waterfall. That's the first thing that I need to make sure it looks nice.
03:27And the other thing is, that is the inner part of the waterfall.
03:30So, what's about the outside part is the white edges as you can see just now.
03:35So, how can I make a solution for it to stay strong?
03:39In this project, what I want to explore very much is, I want to propose a lot of new Lego elements.
03:46So, I did explore much of new Lego sets and new Lego techniques as well.
03:55So, if you look in deep in this model, you can see a lot of new techniques and new elements that have been used
04:02and a lot of colours and all the plants are different and unique.
04:07The Singapore-themed Miniland in Legoland Malaysia opens to the public on August 1st.
04:16So, you can see a lot of new things that they look at with using the other features of the Outdoor band or something like that.
04:21So, you can see the other objects that have been done with the other features that have been built in the opposite of our Götele.
04:25So, when I practice the future of the Bay, you can see this one of the pieces that have been built in between,
04:26those are something that has been built.
04:27But what you see here is the beginning of the Dharma is the beginning of the separation between the ancestors.
04:28Do one of the branches and the two are different than thetail.
04:31So, the event of the network itself that have been built in the other parts of the mystical networks and the правs that have been built on the next.
04:33So, what do you see here is the beginning?
04:35So, there are the pieces of the country together,
04:37and what do you access it have been built iněš´ and the years.
