00:00Welcome to podcast where we dive deep into the stories and insights of trial
00:11basers shaping their industries. I'm your host Priya Thanki and today we have a truly
00:17inspiring guest with us, Ms. Priya Kataria, the founder of Forest Saloon. Priya's mission
00:23is to challenge the norms of the makeup industry while promoting. Let's explore her journey
00:29and vital conversation around the breaking stereotypes in the beauty. My first question
00:35for you is, can you tell us a bit about your background and what inspired you to start a
00:40Forest Saloon? So when I was doing my master's in New York, I realized that makeup and hair is
00:51something that I'm passionate about and I started doing courses over there apart from what I was
00:58studying. And when I got back to India, it was me and my partner who wanted to open a salon. But we
01:05didn't want a salon to be like a regular salon. We wanted to bring in some change. We wanted the salon
01:11to be very creative, you know, and we also wanted nature and mankind to coexist, which gave rise to
01:20the concept of the concept that we opened. My next question for you is, what was the biggest challenge
01:26you faced when launching Forest Saloon and how did you overcome it? So there wasn't any like major
01:34challenge. The challenge was only that we wanted to be the best, okay, and wanted to stick to the name,
01:45Forest. And deliver our best. That's it. Thank you for your answer, ma'am.
01:53So my next question for you is, can you share your thoughts on the impact of social media on beauty
01:59standards today? I think that whenever we watch celebrities, you know, endorsing any product,
02:08let's say that they are endorsing an oil, which would grow our hair. So the mass usually gets
02:15influenced easily. And they feel that, oh, they have lost hair. So just because a celebrity is
02:21promoting the hair oil, the hair will grow back faster and longer. But even science says that once
02:29you lose your hair, it's not going to come back. So I would say that social media is playing a very big
02:36role in influencing the mass. And it has a very big impact on them.
02:43That was an amazing answer, ma'am.
02:47So my next question for you is, how does Forest Saloon strive to create an inclusive and diverse
02:55environment for all the clients?
02:57So when we began the salon, we were very sure that we wanted the salon to include everybody. That's how we
03:07started the concept of kids. From a toddler to an old woman or a man, everyone is welcomed at Forest
03:15and we have services for everybody. So I feel that it's the only family salon which caters to everyone
03:23and includes everybody. That was an incredible answer, ma'am.
03:28So my next question for you is, what role does sustainability play in your business model?
03:35And how did you think it can reshape the beauty industry?
03:40So we are going to use 50 to 70% of the products that will be biodegradable and up to 50% of carbon
03:51emissions that salon does will be reduced due to a time that we are doing with one of the company.
03:58And that will be revealed very soon.
04:00Thank you for your answer, ma'am.
04:03So my next question for you is, how do you think the definition of beauty is evolving?
04:10And what trends are you excited about?
04:14I think the beauty industry is something that keeps evolving all the time. Every year, there are new trends.
04:21trends and one has to be updated with the trends to survive into this industry. And it's exciting
04:29because every time you have something new to learn about. And if you are passionate about what you are
04:35doing, so it's always very exciting. So my next question for you is, the beauty industry often promotes
04:43specific beauty standards. How do you believe the stereotypes affect individual self-esteem?
04:51So it definitely affects the self-esteem of a person because we feel that we need to look in a
04:57certain way. And we try and use certain products that okay, if I use this, maybe you know, my hair is
05:04going to grow long, or maybe I will look more fairer. So and when you're not able to get that result,
05:11it pushes our self-esteem so low. And that's something that really boosts, not boosts, but would put our
05:24confidence very low. And I feel that one advice that I would give is that you should be you and you
05:30should embrace what you are instead of trying to be what you are not. Thank you for your answer, ma'am.
05:36So my last question for you is, what legacy do you hope to live in the beauty industry? And how can others
05:48contribute to this change? I feel that if you love what you do, you can always be the best in what you are doing.
06:00Miss Priya, thank you for sharing your insights and passion for a more inclusive and sustainable
06:06beauty industry. Your dedication to a breaking stereotype and promoting self-acceptance is
06:11truly inspiring. For our listeners, remember that beauty is not one side fits all. Let embarrass your
06:19beauty and uniqueness and support those who challenge norms. Until then next time, keep shining in your own
06:26beautiful way.
