00:00How did a small Turkish tribe become one of the most powerful empires in history?
00:05This is the rise of the Ottoman Empire.
00:08In the late 1200s, a warrior named Osman I led a small band of Turks on the edge of
00:14a collapsing Seljuk Empire.
00:16He united tribes, defeated Byzantines, and laid the foundation of what would become an
00:21empire.
00:23By the 1400s, the Ottomans had crossed into Europe and under Mehmed the Conqueror, they
00:28achieved the impossible.
00:30They captured Constantinople in 1453, ending the Byzantine Empire and shocking the Christian
00:36world.
00:37The Ottomans now ruled both Asia and Europe.
00:41They had elite warriors called Janissaries, advanced gunpowder weapons, and brilliant rulers
00:46like Suleyman the Magnificent, who expanded the empire to its golden age.
00:52From a frontier tribe to a global superpower, the Ottomans ruled for over 600 years.
00:58Until their empire crumbled after World War I.
01:02But their rise changed the course of history forever.
