Badenoch: Recognising Palestine now would reward Hamas

Kemi Badenoch has rejected calls for the UK to recognise Palestinian statehood, saying doing so now would “reward” Hamas after its October attack. The leader of the Conservative Party said a two-state solution remains the goal but “now is not the time.” On the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, she called images of starving civilians “heartbreaking” and blamed Hamas for prolonging the war. 00:06recognizing Palestine as a state. It's not clear what specific boundaries we're talking about,

00:12but most importantly, this would be a reward to Hamas, a terrorist organization, for carrying out

00:17one of the worst atrocities that we have seen in recent memory. I think it's really, really important

00:22that we do all we can to protect the people in the Palestinian territories who are suffering

00:27greatly because of this war. It's heartbreaking to see those pictures of mothers, children,

00:34all the people there who have been under the boot of Hamas, who are the ones who are propagating

00:40a lengthy war that could have ended a long time ago. And my heart and sympathies really

00:44go out to them. They have no agency in this at all, and it's absolutely heartbreaking.
