00:00This is the H sound, as in the words have, he and home.

00:12It's the sound from the single consonants group.

00:17The H sound is called the voiceless glottal fricative,

00:23which means the sound is made with the motion of your vocal cords,

00:27but it's not voiced.

00:31The H sound is made through the mouth and is aspirated,

00:36which means air comes out of your mouth as you say the sound,

00:40and you don't vibrate your vocal cords.

00:43But it is defined by the position of your vocal cords because it's a fricative.

00:48Fricatives are sounds which are made by bringing two parts of your mouth or throat

00:54very close together and pushing air through them.

00:57In this case, that's your vocal cords.

01:00The H sound doesn't have a specific mouth shape,

01:05but it normally takes the shape from the following sounds.

01:09To produce the sounds, constrict your throat and breathe out through your mouth.

01:15The shape of your mouth doesn't matter as much.

01:21It'll probably just be whatever shape you're making in the next sound.

01:24The H sound is spelled with the letter H,

01:32though in a few words it's spelled with a WH,

01:35as in whole, who and whom.
