The Vercors Regional Natural Park, the largest nature reserve in France, is a true laboratory for the coexistence between humans and nature. Since the spontaneous return of the wolf in 199697, biodiversity has regained a new balance. Today, 11 to 12 packs live in this protected area, particularly on the Hauts-Plateaux. Their presence encourages reflection on a more resilient and harmonious form of pastoralism.

00:00The park naturel regional du Vercors is the largest natural reserve in France.
00:21It is also a living laboratory of coexistence with the loup.
00:25You are in the park naturel regional du Vercors, north of its territory,
00:30near Grenoble, located at about 8 km at vol.
00:35The loup has returned to the massif du Vercors in about 1996-1997,
00:40with a severe presence, both by the naturalists and by the elders.
00:45Today, on the entire territory of Vercors, there are between 11 and 12 meutes.
00:51His return was rather spontaneous in the natural reserve des Hauts-Plateaux,
00:55which was a great sheltered space where he found both the quietness and the food.
01:00This return created a imbalance, both on the sauvage,
01:05and also on the pastoralism on the territory.
01:08This imbalance creates, obligatory, new tensions.
01:12The park naturel regional du Vercors is involved in how we do it
01:19to live together with this new problem present on the territory.
01:23To find a good balance, a balance where each one has his place and each one accepts the other.
01:28You accept the presence of the loup, you accept the presence of the pastoralism,
01:32you accept the presence of the tourist frequency.
01:35It's a work of long haleine and it must continue.
01:38Let's continue.
01:39Let's continue.
01:40Let's continue.
01:45Let's continue.
01:47Let's continue.
