00:13beginner and I've had my opinions a little skeptical of this but I've never

00:19had my hands on one so I bought one today less than 60 bucks same day prime

00:24delivery the Fakins portable welding machine that thing stinks it smells

00:31like Harbor Freight on steroids here this isn't drill size this is like full-on

00:36impact wrench I have the electrode holder just clamp right there just in case

00:43you're hoping to weld in some cotton gloves ooh silk also came with some j422

00:52welding rods cords about as long as the machine with a rod in it I mean what

02:06amperage seems about right a little cold if anything so I don't think this is

02:11actually running 120 amps like they claim it's maxed out on the setting but

02:15we'll check that out in a minute here spatter pretty much just scrapes off let's

02:20see how the slag does you know there's a decent result so I'm not saying that

02:36this thing doesn't work I fully recognize that this cost less than $60

02:42delivered to my door and so the fact that it works at all is awesome this

02:50should read out the actual amperage I haven't maxed out on the highest

02:53setting so let's see what it actually will do it's bouncing around a lot but

02:59the best I can tell is around 80 amps which is quite a bit less than 120 they

03:04claim but it seems more reasonable without a high-end machine it's very

03:09difficult to get more than 80 amps out of a welder running on 120 volts at the

03:13end of the day was the arc smooth no was the amperage what they claimed no not

03:18even close did it make a weld yes yes it did but regardless of all that I would

03:25never recommend this because you have to hold all this bulky stuff up while

03:30you're already doing a very difficult thing trying to control the end of this

03:33long electrode and feed in is it burning off yeah I can't imagine any situation

03:38where this is a better option than something else so what would I suggest now

03:42assume if you're considering one of those some things that are important to you are

03:45one it's got to be relatively low cost to you want something that plugs into 120

03:50volts and I assume also something that's easy to use for just repairs on the

03:54house and I think a little flux core machine is a better option so this is the

03:58titanium flux 125 from Harbor Freight and I think these work really well I don't

04:04know that they're any better than a lot of the other options on Amazon or that

04:07you might find elsewhere but look for an inverter with DC output the black one of

04:12these at Harbor Freight kind of a dud but this green one is pretty good for the

04:17money and if you really want to stick weld then get just a regular inverter

04:21stick welder now this one is an expensive one but there are some that are you know

04:26right around a hundred bucks or even less and some of those work pretty good and

04:30the nice thing about that is you have this lead to an electrode holder so you

04:33don't have to hold all that bulky stuff there it just makes a whole lot more

04:37sense I don't really know all of the cheap options on the market I think it's

04:41worth it to spend a little bit more if you're able to but if you are looking

04:44for something budget-friendly then there's a channel big TV 1717 I think he

04:49does the best reviews that I've seen for little cheap welding machines and if you

04:54want to see a really good comparison of flux core versus stick welding

04:57especially for hobbyists check out this video linked right here
