Students Kaylee Goncalves, Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle and Madison Mogen were killed in their off-campus home in the city of Moscow, Idaho. Two other students were present but survived.   Dylan Mortensen survived the attack, and read a statement in court.   Kohberger avoided the death penalty when he pleaded guilty earlier this month. He has never given a motive. 00:16genuine compassionate people were taken from this world for no reason

00:30he didn't just take their lives he took the light they carried it into every room

00:38he took away how they made everyone feel safe loved and full of joy

00:44he took away the ability for me to tell him that i love them and i'm so proud of them

00:51he took away who they were becoming and the futures they were going to have

00:58he took away birthdays graduations celebrations

01:05and all the memories that we were supposed to make all of it is gone

01:11and all the people who love them are just left to carry that weight forever

01:17he didn't just take them from the world he took them from me

01:22my friends my people who felt like my home

01:28the people i looked up to and adored more than anyone

01:33he took away my ability to trust the world around me

01:38what he did shattered me in places i didn't know could break

01:42i was barely 19 when he did this

01:46we had just celebrated my birthday at the end of september

01:50i should have been figuring out who i was

01:53i should have been having the college experience

01:55and starting to establish my future

01:58instead

02:00i was forced to learn how to survive the unimaginable

02:04i couldn't be alone

02:07i had to sleep in my mom's bed

02:12because i was too terrified to close my eyes

02:15terrified that if i blinked someone might be there

02:18i made escape plans everywhere i went

02:23if something happens how do i get out

02:26what can i use to defend myself

02:28who can help

02:30then there are the panic attacks

02:33the kind that slam into me like a tsunami out of nowhere

02:37i can't breathe

02:39i can't think

02:43i can't stop shaking

02:45all i can do is scream

02:52because the emotional pain

02:54and the grief is too much to handle

02:56my chest feels like it's keeping in

02:59sometimes i drop to the floor

03:04with my heart racing

03:05convinced something is very wrong

03:08it's far beyond anxiety

03:10it's my body reliving everything

03:13over and over again

03:15my nervous system never got the message
