At today's Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, Sen. Ashley Moody (R-FL) decried former President Biden and Democrats' border policies.
Transcript
00:00Mayor Moody. Thank you, Mr. Chair. I am the newest senator here, certainly the newest on
00:08judiciary, and I am so glad that I am here in this capacity now because I served as Florida's
00:17Attorney General and watched in horror as Biden and his handlers and the radicals in charge of
00:27his administration systematically and intentionally broke down all of the structures and security
00:35safeguards at the border, and it was only through litigation that we were able to uncover documents
00:43that showed their plan was in place from day one. In fact, when they started rolling out executive
00:52orders dismantling everything that the Trump administration had put into place,
00:57they were warned by those in the administration and Border Patrol and DHS that if you do this,
01:06we will immediately be overrun. We will immediately lose any control at the border, and we do not have
01:16the ability to keep pace with the detention capacity that will be needed. And in fact, ignoring all of
01:23those warnings by their own administration, they not only went ahead and issued the executive orders
01:30dismantling everything that Trump had put into place, they then asked for less money for detention beds.
01:38And the consequences and the chaos that unfolded not only was predicted by their own administration,
01:47it put law enforcement at the border at risk, it put families and communities at risk,
01:56it put our nation's sovereignty and security at risk, as more and more people flooded into this country
02:03country with previous criminal backgrounds, and those that were on the terrorist watch list.
02:09And as I pursued litigation, a judge said,
02:13Biden and his administration has turned our border into nothing more than a meaningless line in the sand.
02:23And when there were warnings that our border would be overrun when Title 42 was expiring,
02:29Florida uncovered documents saying that their grand plan was to step back and let it be overrun.
02:38And in my litigation as Florida's Attorney General,
02:42I uncovered that not only were they pushing more and more and more and more and more historic numbers
02:48into our country, unvetted,
02:50that they established quotas every day
02:54to make sure that Border Patrol pushed a certain amount of numbers into our country
02:59that was barely vetted.
03:02So as Attorney General, when I had sheriffs from all over my state calling me
03:06to say that the Biden administration was canceling detainers on criminals in their jails
03:12and telling them to release them back into the communities,
03:15I was horrified.
03:17Horrified not only because I work with law enforcement across the state
03:23and I knew that was doing what that was doing to their communities,
03:26but horrified because I knew that went against not just the policies of Republican administrations,
03:30but Democratic administrations.
03:34It was a radical's wish list.
03:37They had changed the entire policy on whether or not we were going to deport serious felony offenders,
03:43and their agenda was no.
03:45And the resulting crime that occurred across this country as a result was predicted.
03:53I predicted from the beginning of this administration,
03:55I was one of the first states to sue
03:57when they stopped deporting people here illegally
04:00that were committing crimes against Americans in our communities.
04:06So the gaslighting that started under the last administration
04:10when Mayorkas showed up and said the border is secure, the border is secure,
04:13and I guess he thought the American people would believe that.
04:16It's still going on.
04:19There are so many felony offenders that are here illegally in our country
04:24that because Biden released them,
04:26this administration has to do the hard work of tracking people down
04:31and deporting anywhere from 11 million to 20 million people
04:35because we don't know who's in this country.
04:37On a conservative estimate, 11 million people is more than the population of 42 of our states,
04:45and most of those people were unvetted.
04:49So you're going to hear a lot about people here that just want a better life.
04:54But make no mistake, Biden and his administration
04:57purposefully unleashed those here illegally committing crimes on you
05:03and on your families, and it was intentional.
05:07And when I brought it to their attention that they were no longer
05:10even deporting those in federal prisons that were completing sentences
05:13that were here illegally,
05:15that they were taking them back to where they were prosecuted
05:17and pushing them into those districts
05:19like no other presidential administration had done,
05:22they fought me on giving me the information,
05:24and I had to sue them for that too.
05:26So we can have hearings all day long,
05:29and I can hear about these stories,
05:31but make no mistake,
05:32and the American public should not fall for this dim deception.
05:37This was intentional, it was purposeful,
05:40and they're going to roll out everything that they can think of
05:43to stop any sort of progress to shoring up
05:45and making this country safe again
05:47until they get somebody back in office that will do the same thing.
05:50So I appreciate you, Chairman, for standing strong,
05:53and I would like to ask Sheriff,
05:55I know we have a sheriff with us from the Lone Star State,
05:58from your state,
06:00and I want to just know if you heard the same thing from people,
06:03from sheriffs that were forced because detainers were canceled
06:06to release people back into the communities.
06:10Yes, you're absolutely correct, Senator.
06:12They were forcing them to release people back into the community,
06:16and we have had a longstanding partnership with Border Patrol,
06:21Department of Homeland Security, and our federal partners.
06:24And regardless of what is said,
06:26they were not issuing any orders to Border Patrol or to ICE telling them,
06:30don't enforce this, don't do that.
06:32But what the administration was doing was sending people to those stations
06:35and then giving them verbal orders.
06:37You're no longer allowed to help law enforcement do this.
06:40And much to Border Patrol's credit,
06:43they would sit down and figure out,
06:44okay, how do we circumvent this order and help them in another way?
06:47They would figure out how to help us
06:49in a way that they hadn't been strictly forbidden from doing
06:52until the Biden administration would realize
06:55that they had figured a way around that order
06:57and then the Biden administration would issue a new verbal order to them
07:00telling them they couldn't do that
07:01and they would sit down and figure out another way.
07:04So the administration wasn't dumb enough to send out a paper trail.
07:07What they were smart enough to do
07:08is they were smart enough to send people to those stations
07:11and go, you quit helping local law enforcement.
07:14You quit taking these actions.
07:16Well, indeed, they held back as much paper as they could
07:19until attorneys general like me and others
07:22pushed in court and got it
07:24and found the documents that showed
07:25they knew this was happening their first month in office.
07:28They knew we would be overwhelmed
07:30and they did it anyway.
07:31And if I just might, Chairman,
07:33I am a mother as well
07:35and I just want to say thank you.
07:37I can't imagine the loss of a child
07:40but sharing those stories
07:43and making sure this never happens again in our country
07:45because we can follow the law,
07:47we can do what's right.
07:48I want to thank the parents that share their stories
07:51and I want to thank every law enforcement man and woman
07:53who signed up to wear the badge
07:55and stand between chaos and order and good and evil
07:58and made sure that this country
08:00stands for what we were founded on
08:03and that is the people governing ourselves
08:06under a rule of law.
08:08And that was so important
08:09and I'm so grateful to them every day.
08:11Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
08:12Senator Hirono.
08:13Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
08:18I think we can all agree.
