00:00On stage 12 in 2016, the riders left Montpellier for the Mont Ventoux. Chris Froome had won there
00:14in 2013 and would once again be taking centre stage, although perhaps not in the way he
00:19might have imagined. With gale force wins at the summit, the finish was moved six kilometres
00:24down the road to Chalet Reynard, where Thomas de Ghent claimed his first tour stage win.
00:31But the big story of the day was unfolding further down the mountain where Froome had attacked
00:36with Ritchie Portz and Bauke Mollemer.
00:38Oh, there's a problem here, Phil. What's happened?
00:44What a drama!
00:46Ritchie Portz!
00:48There is Ritchie Portz struggling with his bike.
00:51Well, this I have never ever seen before.
01:03Imagenes increibles.
01:04Christopher Froome a pierre, it's an image absolutely inevitable.
01:10The point into his bike, he needs a bike.
01:13R is the fits.
01:14Well, well, well, well.
01:15There's Yates, logically, that he's pushing hard.
01:20The bike isn't even working here.
01:22Christopher Froome is going to lose his maillot jaune.
01:24It could be that Adam Yates is the next leader of the tour.
01:27This is going to generate a big polemic.
01:29Who will be with the maillot jaune this evening?
01:31You go to the bike.
01:33Well, after all of that drama and two bike changes, Froome was finally able to get going
01:39again.
01:40The race leader crossed the finish line over a minute behind Adam Yates, who had theoretically
01:45taken the yellow jersey.
01:49But due to the exceptional circumstances of the incident, the race commissaires got involved
01:54and gave Froome and Portz the same time as Monomer.
01:57That meant that Froome kept hold of the race lead and even gained some time on Yates.
02:01He would stay in yellow until Paris, where he sealed his third Tour de France victory.
