00:00Good morning. My name is Phil Hewitt, Group Arts Editor from Sussex Newspapers. Good to
00:06speak again to Kevin Short. Now, you've got a short film coming up at the Chichester
00:12International Film Festival by invitation. You'll be there on Wednesday, August 20th
00:17in the evening in Chichester with The Creature from the Bag Lagoon. Now, you are The Creature
00:23and this is a film with a warning, isn't it?
00:25It is. It is indeed. It's obviously a homage to the early horror film in the 1950s, The
00:33Creature from the Black Lagoon, which was then remade by James Wan quite recently, actually
00:38in 2024. So it's a homage to that. But it's a warning, a humorous warning that if you don't
00:45recycle your plastic bags, as they don't in America, by the way, although we do here, we
00:51charge for them now, which is encourage people to recycle all the time. But in America, they
00:56don't. So we made a short film, my partner and I, in America as a warning to them to actually
01:04become environmentally conscious and do the right thing. And so the idea is, if you don't
01:12recycle your bags and you go for a pleasant day out to the wiki-watchy springs where we
01:19actually filmed the short film and you go swimming in the lagoon, you'll suddenly be consumed
01:26by a plastic bag monster that it will appear out of the lagoon. And I play the monster.
01:32So it was quite some costume then. It was, I was covered in at least 100 plastic bags for
01:41three or four days, for three or four hours at a time. And I had to keep saying, let me
01:48out for air. And they had to lift off the top of the bag and I could breathe again for a few
01:53minutes. How scary were you? And I think it was quite scary. Yeah, it's quite an extraordinary
02:01image. I mean, you'll see in the film, I don't want to give away too much about the creature,
02:07but, and I'm sure you'll, you'll show probably a photograph in an article of it, but it's quite
02:13a fun, you know, quite a fun, quite a frightening fun creature. Fantastic. Well, it sounds a cracking,
02:20cracking film. Good to speak to you. That's all right. Nice to see you. The Chichester International
02:24Film Festival, Kevin, where your film will be shown Wednesday, August 20th, The Creature from
02:30the Bag Lagoon. Thanks. Good to see you. Recycle your bags, reuse, reuse, recycle. Or else you'll
02:38come at me covered in bags. Brilliant. Okay. Bye.
