'Keep Colbert, Dump Trump!' chant protesters in New York after announcement of show's cancelation  Late-night television had been fighting for its survival even before “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” announced its cancelation on July 17.  The announced end of one of the most popular broadcast late-night shows, days after host Stephen Colbert accused the network owner of bribing President Donald Trump to approve a merger, drew cries of political foul play from liberal politicians, artists and entertainers.  CBS executives said in a statement that dropping the show was “purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night. 00:41And we are calling on everybody right now to stand up and to refuse to accept the censorship of voices of dissent.

00:50And this is also coming in a time where Trump is kidnapping immigrants.

00:54He's targeting Democratic officials.

00:57He is opening up concentration camps at the in, you know, CECOD.

01:03And so we are saying that Trump must go now and it's up to all of us to stand up, mass refusal to drive this regime from power.

02:18My sign is about politics, of course, but I used to work at public broadcasting for 12 years.

02:28And I saw what happened, how corporations took over public broadcasting.

02:32And they fired 300 of us in 2009.

02:35So the whole idea of public broadcasting has been decimated for decades.

02:40And now they've killed it. They've killed it.

02:43And this is just another corporation eating another corporation.

02:45And it's horrible, absolutely horrible.
