China’s Rare Earth Magnet Exports To U.S. Surge After Trade Pact Eases Shipment Restrictions

China’s exports of rare earth magnets to the U.S. in June rose more than sevenfold from May, signaling a sharp rebound in supply, according to Reuters. China’s rare earth magnet exports rose 157.5% from May but are down 18.9% year-over-year for the first half of 2025. The surge followed a trade agreement between the two countries that eased restrictions on the shipment of critical minerals. China's rare earth magnet exports to the U.S. surged 660% in June to 353 metric tons, according to customs data. The June trade agreements resolved rare earth shipment issues and included Nvidia’s plan to resume sales of its H20 AI chips to China. Analysts expect magnet shipments to rise in July as more exporters secured licenses in June.
