00:00You took my Bible?
00:01Well, just hear me out.
00:02You tell me that what I'm describing isn't what's going on right now.
00:06Welcome to WatchMojo.
00:07Today, we're counting down our picks for the most terrifying predictions made by religious texts
00:11or individuals considered by some to be religious prophets.
00:14We'll be excluding prophecies like the 2012 Mayan phenomenon,
00:17as well as those of Nostradamus, as they do not exactly qualify.
00:21Repent! The end is near! Repent!
00:27Number 10, The Three Secrets of Fatima.
00:29The story goes that the Virgin Mary visited three children,
00:32Lucia Santos, Francisco Marto, and Jacinta Marto,
00:36six times throughout 1917 and shared with them three visions and prophecies.
00:40These are now known as the Three Secrets of Fatima.
00:43Perhaps the scariest was the second in which Mary supposedly promised a catastrophic global war
00:48should people not cease offending God.
00:50This is considered by some to be a reference to World War II,
00:53which broke out decades after the prophecy was allegedly made.
00:56Defenders argue that Mary predicted the war,
00:58while skeptics point out historic flaws in the prophecy
01:00and the fact that this secret wasn't publicly shared until 1941,
01:04after the war had already broken out.
01:06Portugal is Fatima, the apparitions, the pierge, the bergers.
01:11The secret of Fatima.
01:12The only father could hear.
01:15The poor Canada, 1960.
01:16No. 9, Joanna Southcott.
01:19Raised by a farmer, Joanna Southcott was an unassuming Englishwoman with a humble background.
01:24After working as a shopgirl and domestic servant,
01:26Southcott developed a religious fervor and deemed herself the woman of the apocalypse.
01:30In 1792, I was strangely visited by day and night concerning what was coming upon the earth.
01:44She garnered about 100,000 followers by 1814,
01:48which was also the year she would supposedly give birth to the new Messiah.
01:51Southcott announced that on October 19th of that year,
01:54she would birth the Shiloh mentioned in the book of Genesis,
01:57and with it would come the end of the world.
01:58This obviously did not come to pass,
02:00and Southcott died two months later on December 26th.
02:03No. 8, Kalki.
02:05Apocalypse harbingers don't get much cooler than Kalki.
02:07He is said to be the final incarnation of Vishnu,
02:10the main god of Vaishnavism.
02:12According to that religion, our existence cycles through four ages, or yugas.
02:15The worst of them all is the fourth, known as the Kali Yuga,
02:18which we're currently living in.
02:20Kalki is responsible for bringing the Kali Yuga to an end.
02:23It is believed that he will eliminate all evil in the world
02:25while riding his white steed and brandishing a sword of fire.
02:29This will restart the yuga cycle
02:30and bring about the happiest of the four ages, the Satya Yuga.
02:34When this will happen is unclear,
02:35but the Kali Yuga is said to last 432,000 years.
02:39No. 7, Chantau.
02:40Originating in Taiwan, Chantau blended various religious influences,
02:44including Buddhism, millennialism, and even everyone's favorite, ufology,
02:48into one unique concoction.
02:49The group moved to Garland, Texas in 1997,
02:52supposedly because Garland sounds like godland.
02:55They then made a highly publicized prophecy claiming that god would appear on TV
02:59and announce his second coming.
03:01Who made man's mouth?
03:04Who made the deaf, the mute, the seeing, or the blind?
03:08Did not I?
03:09This divine announcement was set for March 31st, 1998,
03:13and when that time came,
03:14the media flocked to the group's Garland neighborhood in anticipation.
03:17It was such an event that the city's police department
03:19had officers on standby should things get out of hand.
03:22Repent!
03:24The end is near!
03:25Repent!
03:28Of course, god did not appear on our TVs,
03:30and Chantau essentially disbanded after their very public embarrassment.
03:34So where the hell did god now?
03:36No. 6, The Great Fire of London.
03:38Surely you've all heard of the demonic number 666.
03:41While it's generally linked to the devil,
03:42its ominous origins can actually be traced back to a vague figure
03:45in the book of Revelations known only as the Beast.
03:496, 6, 6, the number of the Beast.
03:53It is only through personal interpretation
03:55that scholars have linked the Beast to the Antichrist.
03:58The association of this number with the Beast
04:00led some religious figures to anticipate a disaster of some kind in the year 1666,
04:05which indeed came to pass.
04:07In early September of that year, a hellish fire raged through London.
04:10While the death toll was relatively low,
04:13the fire destroyed most of the city and left it an apocalyptic ruin.
04:175, Frasho-Kareti.
04:19Zaro-Astronism is an Iranian religion
04:21which could date as far back to the 2nd millennium BCE.
04:24Their concept of the apocalypse is called Frasho-Kareti,
04:27and it sounds very scary indeed.
04:30Oh my god, I'm gonna die!
04:32A giant battle between good and evil will erupt,
04:34and the savior figure, Saushant, will raise the dead.
04:37The Earth's natural metals will then be melted and made to flow throughout the world like a molten river.
04:42Everyone on Earth, including the newly raised dead,
04:44will then walk through this river with the good being saved and the evil being burned alive.
04:49Once all evil is extinguished from the material world,
04:51the river flows down to hell and destroys the evil spirit, Angra Mainyu.
04:56Number 4, Montanism and New Jerusalem.
04:59Back in the middle 2nd century in what is now Turkey,
05:01a man named Montanus began spouting prophecies.
05:04These eventually gave rise to his eponymous religion of Montanism.
05:07The predictions offered by the religion were highly controversial,
05:11resulting in it being deemed a heretical movement.
05:13Montanism borrowed an apocalyptic event from the Book of Revelation,
05:16in which John of Patmos stands on a mountaintop and watches New Jerusalem descend to Earth.
05:21Montanists believed that New Jerusalem would descend onto a high plain in Phrygia,
05:25now in Turkey, where the survivors were expected to spend eternity with God.
05:29Based on this belief, many abandoned their homes and moved to the area
05:32in anticipation of the great event.
05:34Number 3, Yom Ad-Din.
05:36A central tenet of the Islamic faith is that of Yom Ad-Din, or Judgment Day.
05:40The portents alone are terrifying enough.
05:42A cunning figure called Al-Masih al-Dajjal will first kill those Muslims he conceived,
05:47while the tyrant Sufyani will harm women and children.
05:50Subsequently, the sun will rise from the west and a fatal wind will blow,
05:54peacefully eliminating the remaining believers.
05:56When sun rises in the west, sets in the east.
06:00When the seas go dry, when the mountains blow in the wind, make leaves.
06:04And that's when things get really scary.
06:06The Earth is completely destroyed, with the sun-darkening stars falling and seas boiling.
06:11The dead will then resurrect for God's judgment,
06:13before proceeding to walk the bridge of As-Zirat.
06:15The virtuous will easily cross into Janna, or paradise, while the sinners fall to hell below.
06:24Number 2, Ragnarok.
06:26Apocalyptic events don't get much more detailed than Ragnarok,
06:29the foretold end times in Norse mythology.
06:31It begins with a terrible winter that sends humanity into violent chaos,
06:35and it's followed by the complete destruction of the world.
06:38Tramble before me, Asgard.
06:41I am your reign.
06:43The stars and sun will disappear, the mountains will fall,
06:47and the seas will rise and flood the Earth.
06:49Meanwhile, an unimaginably massive wolf named Fenrir will run through the world with his mouth open,
06:54devouring ground and sky alike.
06:56The gods will then fight against these creatures,
06:58resulting in the demise of Odin, Thor, Loki, and Heimdall, among others.
07:02And when Ragnarok comes,
07:05800 warriors will march out of each door, shoulder to shoulder.
07:11Following the apocalyptic fight,
07:13the ruined remains of the Earth will fall into the sea,
07:16and everything that we know will blink out of existence.

07:35Number 1, The Book of Revelation.
07:36The Book of Revelation, the final installment in the Christian Bible,
07:40is a remarkable work of apocalyptic literature
07:42that presents a series of vivid prophecies regarding the end times.
07:46And the skies shall open up,
07:48and the light of the Lord shall shine down,
07:49and those of good hurt shall be brought into my kingdom of heaven.
07:52That's the rapture.
07:54It begins with the opening of seven seals,
07:56which reveal apocalyptic events,
07:58such as a disastrous earthquake that sends stars falling to Earth.
08:01This is followed by seven trumpets that bring devastating judgments,
08:05and the emergence of the beast,
08:07who marks people with the number 666.
08:09The ultimate climax arrives with the battle at Armageddon,
08:12where the forces of good and evil clash.
08:15Finally, the new Jerusalem descends from heaven,
08:18and people are judged according to their deeds on Earth.
08:20The righteous then get to spend eternity with God.
08:23Do you fear any of these prophecies?
