Assam teen Namrata Engtipi killed, mistakenly cremated by another family

A 17-year-old girl from Assam, Namrata Engtipi, was mistakenly cremated by another family who believed she was their missing daughter.

00:11Her family filed a missing person report on July 16 as the family searched quietly for a month.

00:16Two days later, police asked them to identify belongings,

00:19a ring, a religious threat, recovered earlier.

00:22They confirmed the items were Namrata's.

00:24According to police, a girl's body was found near the Shiv Temple in Nagao, Assam on June 16.

00:29It was believed to be that of Pinky Das, a missing girl from another town, Raha.

00:33Pinky's family claimed the body and conducted the last rites.

00:36But weeks later, Pinky was found alive in Guwahati.

00:39The body they cremated wasn't hers.

00:42Namrata's family believes that it was Namrata.

00:44Nagao police have now arrested Sadam Hussein, a car driver who allegedly confessed to murdering Namrata

00:49after an argument while they were traveling together.

00:51He reportedly strangled her and dumped her body near the temple.

00:55Namrata's family, devastated, says they never got a chance to see her again.
