00:00All right Oddly Horrific fam, buckle up, because I know what you did last summer just dropped,
00:25and there's a lot to talk about.
00:27This legacy sequel tries to do the impossible and revive a long-dormant franchise, blend
00:33slasher nostalgia with Gen Z aesthetics, honor the original while dragging it into the TikTok
00:38era.
00:39The result?
00:40Well, yeah.
00:41It's uneven, tonally all over the place, kinda dumb but also… surprisingly fun.
00:46Gory, watchable and absolutely stuffed with insane creative choices that'll leave you
00:51either cheering or yelling at your screen.
00:53So enough chitchat, we are breaking down the massive twist ending and yes we're talking
00:58about that final double killer reveal and the post credit scene that shamelessly tees up
01:03a whole new sequel and franchise.
01:05So if you just watched the movie and you're thinking, wait, what the hell just happened?
01:09You're in the right place, let's break this thing down.
01:14Ok horror freaks, before we get to the… the crazy ending, let's make sure we are all on
01:19the same page.
01:21Car lead Ava returns to her coastal hometown for a 4th of July party.
01:26She's joined by a group of very TikTok core friends, Danica, Milo, and Teddy.
01:31And eventually their mysterious new friend Stevie.
01:33Careful with her!
01:35And of course this is…
01:36I know what you did last summer so it's accident time!
01:38They hit a man with their car!
01:40However unlike the original 1997 film where the teens were responsible and the group made
01:45a clear pretty bad choice to cover it up.
01:48This version?
01:49I don't know.
01:50It feels different.
01:51Teddy's high as hell and maybe he would have been an issue here.
01:55But the rest of the group?
01:56They literally try to call the cops.
01:58So the whole moral dilemma?
02:00It feels kind of weak.
02:02There's guilt, sure, but no real accountability.
02:05But hey!
02:06Come on, I don't want to just be a massive hater.
02:08Let's talk about the best part of this movie.
02:10Danica!
02:11Madeline Klein absolutely eats in this role!
02:15She's a TikTok Gen Z girlboss written by someone who actually
02:18gets it!
02:19Stylish, messy, funny, and thank god never cringe!
02:23And if that wasn't enough…
02:24Helen freaking shivers!
02:26Yes!
02:27Sarah Michelle Gellar's iconic final girl gets a subtle cameo.
02:31She appears in a flashback as a cautionary tale.
02:34But the visual language is clear.
02:36It's a passing of the torch.
02:38Helen was the best thing in the original.
02:40Danica is the best thing in this one.
02:43Legacy status approved.
02:44So?
02:45You know the deal.
02:46Blood starts spilling.
02:48Tensions boil.
02:49The fisherman is back.
02:50And this all leads us straight to the boat and to the twist ending.
02:56So let's break down that massive ending.
02:59Yes, we finally learn who's behind the hook.
03:01Or at least who first picked it up.
03:04Stevie!
03:05Oh yeah, the former friend turned resentful outsider is the first fisherman.
03:09And honestly, this reveal kinda worked for me.
03:12It makes sense as Stevie felt abandoned.
03:15She was with Sam, the man who died in the crash.
03:17She wasn't part of the core friend group anymore.
03:19She wasn't even supposed to be there that night.
03:21She hitched a ride last minute.
03:23So when the accident happens and she finds out Sam's the victim, the rage actually feels
03:28earned.
03:29In a Camp 90's slasher kinda way.
03:31She's not just copying the original killer's hook shtick.
03:34She's doing it as vengeance for a relationship nobody knew about.
03:38Her motive is deeply personal, but also twisted by grief.
03:42So far so good, right?
03:44And then Ray shows up.
03:45Ray Bronson.
03:46As in Freddie Prinze Jr. Ray.
03:48Julie's ex.
03:49Original survivor.
03:50One of the final two from the 1997 film.
03:53And he's the second killer.
03:55Yeah, they went there.
03:56As Ava starts piecing things together back on his boat, we realize he's been in on this
04:00the entire time.
04:02Stevie wasn't working alone.
04:03So let's talk about it because this is where the fanbase might split in two.
04:07The movie claims he snapped that the events of the first film were never fully dealt with,
04:12and that seeing a new generation mock, forget, or even commodify those events pushed him over
04:17the edge.
04:18Campfire stories, podcast episodes, so in his eyes he becomes a fisherman.
04:23Not for revenge, but for legacy.
04:25To remember what happened.
04:26And yeah, I don't know, is that smart, bold storytelling?
04:29Or a massive swing and a miss?
04:31Ray being a killer is bold, no doubt, but it's also risky.
04:35The movie assumes there's a big enough fandom who will care about this twist.
04:39That we're emotionally invested in Ray as a legacy character.
04:42But, are we?
04:43Do people even like Ray enough for this to hit?
04:46If anything, it might just leave fans pissed, not shocked, just kind of betrayed.
04:53And not in a fun scream 4 way.
04:55Let's be real, it's a big swing.
04:58And while I'll give the movie credit for not playing it safe, I don't think it earns
05:02this twist.
05:04It's not foreshadowed in a way that deepens the story.
05:07It's more of a jaw drop reveal for the sake of having one.
05:10But hey, none of that really matters, does it?
05:13Because Danica lives.
05:15And thank god for that.
05:16She's stabbed, thrown overboard, presumed dead.
05:19But she washes up on the beach like a true final girl and gets her last little moment with
05:24Ava.
05:25Madeline Klein.
05:26I love you.
05:27Yeah folks, they went full franchise mode.
05:30We've got ourselves a post credit scene.
05:33So after the dust settles, after Ray's been harpooned, after Ava and Danica have their
05:37little beachside trauma bonding moment, we cut to another legacy character.
05:42Brandi's back, baby.
05:44She's chilling at home, watching the news with her husband.
05:47When the report comes in, the Southport murders, Ray Bronson dead, multiple bodies,
05:52a missing suspect still at large.
05:55And then Julie shows up and she's got a message.
05:57It's not over.
05:59Sequels in the air, ladies and gentlemen.
06:01Like nobody asked for an I know what you did last summer sequel.
06:04But Sony kept these movies tight, fun, and low budget.
06:08But fuck, they might gaslight this into being a full on horror franchise revival.
06:13It's a bit cringe, yeah, but you know, we'll all be watching the next one.
06:21So yeah, that's your full breakdown.
06:23Fisherman, Final Girls, Legacy Twists, Podcast Girl Hangings, and more harpoon kills than anyone
06:29expected.
06:30But now it's time for the only rating that matters.
06:33The Oddly Horrific Stamp of Judgment.
06:36And I gotta be honest, I had a lot of issues with this movie, man.
06:40This film does not know who it's for.
06:42It's chasing old school slasher fans by dragging Julie and Ray back.
06:46But then it's also chasing TikTok-era Gen Z with slang-heavy dialogue and influencer vibes
06:51and self-aware trauma jokes.
06:54You've got moments that feel like a CW soap.
06:57Then scenes that are straight up brutal.
06:59And in between, legacy monologues that grind the second act to a halt.
07:04It's too long.
07:05A tight 90 minutes would've been perfect.
07:07Instead, it kind of limps through its setup before finally popping off in Act 3.
07:12But, and it's a big but, I still had fun.
07:15There's a confidence to how this thing moves once it gets going.
07:19The gore is nasty.
07:20The kills are top tier for this franchise.
07:23And say what you want about the tone.
07:25It looks like a proper late 90s, early 2000s slasher.
07:29The director?
07:30Yeah.
07:31They just get it.
07:32And if the final five gets you a fresh on Rotten Tomatoes?
07:34Then I'm giving I Know What You Did Last Summer a solid 3.1 fish hooks out of 5.
07:40And that's it.
07:41OH Nache.
07:42If you made it this far, you're the real final girl.
07:45Smash that sub button.
07:47Throw us a like and drop your hot take below.
07:49Did Ray's twist ruin the movie for you?
07:51Are you here for the Carla and Julie team up sequel?
07:54Did you love Danica like the rest of us?
07:57For more horror breakdowns.
07:59More endings explained.
08:01We've got so much great horror content on this channel, so have a look around.
08:05Thanks for watching and remember, I know what you did last summer, ya dirty bastard.
08:31And I'll know.
08:38And without all your supplementation.
08:40ANDER它J Skill is really good.
08:41So have you.
08:42My parents perfectly and representations.
08:42I thought maybe I really can make.
08:44I thought that might be a genius.
08:46I haven't got advice in text.
08:47I thought that there's no one hint I regret.
08:50Because ever pretend to me.
08:50I think I'll decide that.
08:52And because there's noitié doing this.
08:52Me ahead and watch yourself Souza, what are you doing?
08:53All I want to do, that stuff is always good to say.
08:54All I can enjoy, though, but I don't enjoy it sometimes.
08:55I don't know it's a little bit bad.
08:56I'm never going to see you.
08:56Being onesones past seven years, it's almost like, oh shit.
