00:00Watch the heads, watch the holding, all right?
00:02Catch them up and let them hold you.
00:05Eight rounds in the super welterweight division.
00:10Bell about to ring in this eight-round middleweight bout.
00:13And Ray, I've got to tell you something.
00:15Noah Kidd reminds me of someone you face in your career, Emmanuel Augustus.
00:18And the reason I say that is because he's a guy who on any given night can go in there and beat anybody,
00:23as indicated by his record.
00:24I don't know if the fight style is the same, but he...
00:25I hope he's not as awkward as that.
00:27And that's the thing, you know, some of these guys who come in with the records,
00:31they don't look that impressive, but you look at who they fought.
00:33And they're not just fighting those guys.
00:35They're getting wins now and then, and they're keeping themselves relevant.
00:37And Noah Kidd's a guy, when you look at who he beat, Deshaun Prather, Antonio Wade,
00:41you can't sleep on him if you're Mike Fontenet.
00:43You've got to be wary.
00:46What you're saying is true.
00:47We're in for an interesting fight here today.
00:51And by the way, we've mentioned some of the noteworthy opponents
00:54from some of the fighters in the car tonight.
00:55I think Kidd's got them all beat.
00:57Back in 2022, he fought Sergio Martinez, the great Sergio Martinez,
01:01in what was Martinez's second-to-last fight of his illustrious career.
01:05So this is a guy, when you talk about it, I've been there with everybody.
01:07I mean, imagine having faced Sergio Martinez
01:09and just had the opportunity to share the ring with someone like him.
01:12That's a big honor.
01:14And an old kid, he comes on and does exactly what I hate.
01:17He is a little awkward.
01:18He switches lefty to righty.
01:20I don't know what, you know, that could be awkwardness there.
01:22Yeah, nice shot to the body by Fontenet.
01:24Fontenet is in the white trunks with the black and gold trim.
01:32Noah Kidd in the red trunks.
01:34Kidd coming in from Jefferson City, Missouri, just 29 years of age.
01:39And he says he's orthodox, but he switches like you mentioned, Ray.
01:42Yeah, he's switching lefty to righty.
01:44He came out after his lefty, which I think he looked good.
01:46But every time he goes back to orthodox switch, that's when Fontenet has much more pleasure with him.
01:51Trying to catch Fontenet with that uppercut.
01:53Fontenet is trying to work the body.
01:55Right hand to the body.
01:56Yeah.
01:56He caught him.
01:56What I'm seeing today is a lot of the fighters are being very patient, which you usually don't see.
02:11A lot of these fighters come out.
02:13They come out hard throwing, trying to get their knockout because they're fans.
02:16But over here, all these fighters are very patient in picking their spots.
02:22No, it's a good point, Ray.
02:23A lot of fighters in this car tonight, we just saw in the last bout, Adrian Sosa, who hadn't fought in almost three years.
02:29And he was super patient until he got that knockout in the fifth round.
02:32That's a good lesson, Ray.
02:33The knockout, if you work through those rounds, the knockouts will come.
02:38It's not always just that one-punch deal.
02:41Fontenet is trying to work for it himself here in round one.
02:44And even though Fontenet, Fontenet, Michael, has seven knockouts and 11 wins, he's not that much of a big puncher, I believe.
02:54But weirdly, he's hurting Kidd today.
02:59No, he's wearing people down.
03:00Yeah.
03:02And that's the whole part of it.
03:03Like I tell people, it's not the knockouts you want.
03:05As long as it's a W, it's a W.
03:08Working the body masterfully against Kidd.
03:11And Kidd does have a bit of that awkward style.
03:14It's going to explain how he's probably gone into enemy territory, if you will, on the road and stolen a couple of fights in recent months.
03:22I always say when a fighter gets hit and he goes, ah, it didn't hurt, yes, it did.
03:25Of course it hurts.
03:26Yes, it did.
03:28It's always one of the more fun things that we see when we're broadcasting.
03:30CES fans, after the fights, join us at the official after-party for CES at the Blue Shamrock.
03:37Come party with Speedy Rashidi in the Blessed South Hall, located at 105 Market Street.
03:43Three bars, one location.
03:45The Blue Shamrock is Lowell's finest sports bar.
03:48Upstairs is Gemstones, the hottest nightclub in northern Boston.
03:50Kidd is someone who, again, fluctuates in weight from time to time.
03:54He'll fight anywhere from 160 to 168.
03:57Last time out in May, he lost to Marco Romero, who was 6-0.
04:01He weighed 169.5 in that fight.
04:03Came in yesterday at 161.
04:05So he's someone that stays at a consistent weight.
04:08He can go up a little bit or go down if he has to.
04:09And that, you know, fighting like that, Ray, is a promoter's dream, in a sense,
04:13because he's always available and always ready.
04:15It's a matter of just staying in shape to some relative degree,
04:19but being ready to go in one direction or the other when that phone call comes.
04:22And if you give rounds.
04:23And you give rounds.
04:24You give rounds, and then not always a first-round knockout.
04:34Fontanez has stated that his goal, as we begin round number two,
04:37is to fight for a title of some sort by the end of 2025.
04:40And if you're with CES and you're with promoter Jimmy Birchfield,
04:43there's a good chance that you can do that.
04:45The top two fighters on tonight's card both own WBC U.S. Silver Championships
04:50in their respective weight classes.
04:52And Fontanez could be in line for a similar opportunity somewhere down the road
04:57if he continues at that pace.
04:58And that's one of the benefits of having a Jimmy Birchfield in your corner
05:01who has those relationships and can get you those opportunities
05:04and get you up the ladder quickly.
05:05Definitely.
05:06Kidd came out very, very aggressive this second round here.
05:11He's back in, trying to back up Fontanez.
05:13Fontanez is still patient and working.
05:21And Kidd is switching from lefty to righty.
05:27Let's see Fontanez sort of with that straight left right down the middle.
05:32Catch him while he's switching.
05:32There you go, Mark.
05:33He's working.
05:34Nice combination.
05:35Nice combination.
05:35Right hand.
05:36Left hand.
05:37Straight down that middle.
05:38Keep him on those ropes.
05:39Nice double jab there that set up that left hand by Fontanez.
05:42This is where I want to see Fontanez a little bit more aggressive.
05:46That left is landing.
05:48Keep this.
05:49Keep throwing it.
05:50Double it up.
05:51One punch at it.
05:52Don't throw one punch at a time.
05:53And it goes back to that patient you talked about with Fontanez who's not a one knockout,
05:59one punch knockout type fighter.
06:00He's a guy that will wear you down.
06:02Yes.
06:02And as the pace picks up and he gets more comfortable, you start seeing three, four punch combos.
06:06And that's really where the power comes from.
06:07This is where I want to see a little bit more aggressive.
06:11He wants to stay in the corner.
06:12Take punches and keep him in there.
06:13Don't let him out.
06:16He's going right back into that corner.
06:18Keep him in there.
06:21Fontanez continues to land or attempt to land that left hook to the body.
06:25There's the right jab to the body now as we come up on the final minute.
06:31He wants to be a little bit too patient here.
06:39If Kidd's going to lay in that corner and allow you to punch, then do it.
06:43Take what he's giving you.
06:45It looks like Fontanez maybe trying to pick his spot instead of trying to work the combinations
06:49that were so successful earlier in this round.
06:52He hasn't missed it yet.
06:54Why stop?
06:56Just let that left go.
06:58There goes Kidd rushing in.
07:01He's trying to fix his spots.
07:02And that's something Kidd's known to do.
07:04He kind of almost cat-like reflexes where he pounces out of the corner.
07:11We saw Noah Kidd back in 2024, Mohegan Sun against Tommy Hyde.
07:15Oh.
07:17And that was our first real introduction to that awkward fight style and what Kidd brings to the table.
07:23Hyde got the victory that night.
07:24Fontanez is trying to do the same tonight.
07:26They're at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
07:28He's got to keep him.
07:29He's in that corner.
07:30Keep him.
07:31Keep working him.
07:32There come the combinations by Fontanez as we get to the final bell.
07:36Good flurry to finish it off.
07:37And Fontanez seeing an opening there and trying to take advantage of it.
07:40We've seen that opening.
07:41You know, we've been seeing it all day.
07:44He's too patient.
07:45This is the fight where I'm going to say he's too patient.
07:47Left, that straight, left, come.
07:48And jumping with that right hook to the body.
07:52He's sitting in that corner, which tells me, I want to quit.
07:55There were a couple of times in that round where Fontanez executed the double right jab and followed it up with the left hand.
08:04It's really picture perfect if you're a southpaw.
08:06It's what you always try to do.
08:07It's part of the blueprint.
08:08It doesn't always work depending on the fighter.
08:10But it seems like he's got an opening there if he takes it.
08:13And if he sticks with that game plan, then possibly the knockout could come as the fight progresses.
08:19This one's scheduled for eight.
08:20So perhaps that's another reason why Fontanez maybe hasn't picked up the pace as dramatically as we used to see.
08:26And I'm not sure, forgive me, if this is his first eight-round fight tonight.
08:29I will look that up.
08:30But Fontanez does have time on his side.
08:33But again, Ray, like you said, there's that fine line between how patient you want to be and when do you pick up the pace.
08:37Yeah, like all the opinions I'm giving is my opinion, you know.
08:41I'm not trying to be the corner.
08:43I'm just giving my opinion.
08:43What I would say, but I don't know the fighter.
08:46The corner knows the fighter.
08:47You know, you can probably work it to the game plan they want him to work through.
08:51I'm just impatient.
08:52I want a little bit more.
08:54This is Fontanez's first eight-round fight.
08:57So that is worth mentioning.
08:58He's had mostly sixes in his career since joining CES.
09:01And this is the first time he's stepping up to eight rounds.
09:04We'll see if Kidd can take him into those uncharted waters.
09:07Kidd charging aggressively.
09:12See, this is the part where I like Fontanez, where he's patient.
09:14Kidd is jumping in, throwing punches.
09:16Be patient now.
09:17As soon as he throws on his load, then you'll be aggressive.
09:23This is where a kick can be dangerous, because he's awkward.
09:25He comes jumping in from the corner.
09:29See, this is where you've got to be more aggressive, right here.
09:34The straight lefts are working.
09:36Come back with the four threes.
09:38Once again, you're watching Mill City mayhem on Swerve Combat.
09:44Michael Parenti and Sucre, Ray Oliveira are inside bringing you all the action.
09:48You've got Mike Fontanez in the white and gold, taking on Noah Kidd in the red trunks.
09:52Eight rounds in the middleweight division.
09:55Fontanez trying to go to 12-0 and keep that perfect record intact against the very tough, awkward, pesky Noah Kidd, if you will.
10:03I think pesky is a good way to describe it.
10:07Oh, the body shot dropped him, or was that a low blow?
10:10Low blow.
10:11That's going to be a low blow.
10:12It wasn't perfectly done, but it was a low blow.
10:14Well, Ray, that can be a side effect of working the body consistently.
10:22Sometimes you go a little too far south, and it happens.
10:26Well, Kidd was grabbing and pushing down.
10:29You know, both fighters were pushing a little rough in there, so sometimes them low blows do happen.
10:34They're not done purposely, but they do happen.
10:40Kidd will get up to five minutes to recover from the low blow.
10:43Oh, there's the replay, Ray.
10:44We'll take a look here.
10:45It definitely was.
10:46You can see it.
10:47Oh, yeah.
10:48Bam.
10:48Just below that belt line.
10:50It's that fine line between where that belt line cuts off and where it's a low blow, but that one...
10:55Talk back to his package.
10:56It's a fine line.
10:58Don't worry about it.
10:59Easy to say from this spot in the house, right?
11:03So we're still just halfway through round three of a scheduled eight-round fight.
11:07Noah Kidd taking his time, as he can and will do.
11:13Steve, you want to see it?
11:20Yeah, five minutes.
11:21I think he's going to use it.
11:22He might use all five.
11:24I'll tell you what, and I'd love to go back and see some statistics on this.
11:27The number of low blows you and I have seen.
11:29What's the average recovery time usually taken?
11:32It's never really that long, guys.
11:34Want to jump back in there.
11:35So Kidd will, in fact, jump back in there after a quick little break.
11:44Fontanez just trying to pick up where he left off.
11:46Nice right hook.
11:52That time feigning the jab and following up with that left hook.
11:55I think that one definitely caught Kidd's attention.
11:58See, that Kidd just took a deep breath right there.
12:00Fontanez's got to jump on him.
12:02He's winded.
12:04Oh, there's another body blow.
12:06That was a body blow.
12:07That was not a low blow, that one.
12:09That was not a low blow, my opinion.
12:17No, they're going to call it a low blow.
12:18Oh, they're now taking a point away for Fontanez.
12:20They're taking two points.
12:21Two points.
12:23Two points.
12:25Well, I would need to see the replay on that.
12:28I'm not sure if that was a low blow.
12:31Fontanez doesn't agree.
12:32Kidd again taking some time.
12:34Here's a look, Ray.
12:42Is it a low blow?
12:45I'm not sure about that.
12:47Now, we don't have a great angle.
12:48That just took like a jab to the body.
12:53But nonetheless, they're going to call it.
12:54And what we think doesn't matter, it's going to be a two-point deduction from Mike Fontanez.
12:59It's hard to call a low blow because he's not wearing really boxing shorts.
13:05No, he's got trunks that are rolled on the inside.
13:07Yes.
13:08And the belt line is not as visible on those trunks.
13:10You can't see it.
13:12And I'm kind of surprised they even allow that at this commission.
13:15But nonetheless, that's what he's wearing.
13:16He wasn't a low blow.
13:16He's jumping around like he wasn't.
13:18No.
13:19Well, it could be some trickery on Noah Kidd's part.
13:21And perhaps this is how you win a few fights on the road here and there.
13:26You pull out some tricks out of the old toolbox.
13:29By the two points coming on, he won this round.
13:32Yeah, it's a tough break for Fontanez.
13:41Final few seconds here of round number three.
13:44That's a body blow for sure.
13:46That one definitely caught him in the rib cage.
13:48Kidd now backing up into the corner again.
13:50Kidd now just mocking Fontanez.
13:58That's why I want to see the anger out of Fontanez.
14:01Well, there goes the bell.
14:02And you might get it now, Ray.
14:03If after Fontanez probably believes that he was wrongly robbed of two points in that round
14:08to what the judges deferred as low blows.
14:12You can see right now, Fontanez is very patient, too patient to me.
14:17You know, get that anger out of you.
14:18Yes.
14:19You know, keep continuing to go into that body.
14:23And, Ray, you know as well as anybody, sometimes veteran fighters try to unnerve the younger
14:27fighter and maybe drag him into some, a bit of a street fight, if you will, right, where
14:33they're not necessarily as comfortable.
14:34That's what Kidd wants.
14:34Yes.
14:35He's probably saying to himself, look, I'm not coming out of here to win.
14:39So I'm going to do everything possible to get to a close fight where, you know, I got
14:44to make people think about it.
14:46So it's two points taken away.
14:48Kidd won that round.
14:49So instead of Fontanez being up three to zero, he's up two rounds to one.
14:55And we're only three rounds through a Schedule 8 round fight.
14:59So it'll be interesting to see if the fight does go deeper and deeper, how those point
15:05deductions will play into the score.
15:07Now, we don't know if it doesn't get that far.
15:08It's an irrelevant point.
15:09However, so far, Kidd has shown that he can hang in there.
15:13And again, you see that very unorthodox style of trunks, if you want to call it that, where
15:18there's no real definitive belt line.
15:20The trunks are basically wrapped around the inside of the cup.
15:24He's wearing swimming trunks.
15:26Those are definitely swimming trunks.
15:28He may have bought those on the way into town, probably, you know.
15:30Round four of a Schedule 8.
15:32Kidd coming out super aggressive, throwing punches from all angles against Fontanez.
15:37Is he going to blow his low like he has done?
15:40Fontanez just smiling through it.
15:42It's starting to send some chippiness here.
15:44And we'll see if that brings out the beast in Mike Fontanez.
15:46But this is what Noah Kidd does.
15:51This is how he goes on the road, and he keeps himself in fights, and every now and then
15:55steals victories against opponents who are favored.
15:58He's tactical.
16:00He's a dirty boxer.
16:01And we don't mean that as an insult.
16:02He's smart.
16:02Howard Semi-Fight, you've got to be both smart and dirty.
16:06And he took a couple of low blows.
16:08Maybe one was a little borderline, no pun intended, but he got a two-point deduction
16:12out of it.
16:13And now Fontanez has him back into the corner here in round four.
16:16Kidd does.
16:17He blows his load for 20, 30 seconds after that.
16:21Like I told you, the round is three minutes, not ten seconds.
16:25Now here comes Fontanez trying to put some combinations together.
16:28He's got Kidd back into the corner, an opportunity to let those hands go and see if he can keep
16:34Kidd back into that corner.
16:36Nice shot to the body that time.
16:38That was definitely a body shot.
16:39And down goes Kidd.
16:41He's going to take a knee.
16:43That one clean.
16:44No doubt about that one whatsoever.
16:47Fontanez landing the clean body shot.
16:51Noah Kidd's going to take the full eight count.
16:52So a big knockdown by Mike Fontanez, which levels off that two-point deduction from the
16:59previous round.
17:00And now Fontanez is in control.
17:02And Kidd's backing up again.
17:04He goes back into that corner.
17:05He tells me, when you're backing out of that corner, you want to quit.
17:08And you wonder if Kidd's just trying to restock the well, so to speak, before he just jumps
17:14out with an aggressive attack out of that corner.
17:18Fontanez just needs to stay on his toes.
17:20But a big knockdown here from Mike Fontanez in round four, after having two points taken
17:25away for low blows in round three.
17:26Nice body shot by Kidd there with the left hook.
17:28I'm starting to see why you're saying Emmanuel Gussis.
17:31He's not as good as Emmanuel Gussis, but he has his tricks that he pulls out there.
17:36He does.
17:36He really does.
17:37I'm telling you, the similarities are there.
17:41Is he from New Orleans?
17:45Fontanez, nice shot to the chest.
17:47Just under a minute to go in round four.
17:49Fontanez starting to get more comfortable and maybe finally getting a better understanding
17:55of what Kidd brings to the table.
17:56Maybe not fooled by those tricks anymore, as we mentioned.
17:59I like how Fontanez is touch, touch, touch power.
18:03Touch, touch, touch power.
18:04I know sometimes these clashing of styles, Ray, as Fontanez now works the body.
18:13They're going to wave it off.
18:14That's going to do it.
18:15Mike Fontanez gets the victory.
18:18Finishing off Noah Kidd in round number four.
18:22And Fontanez trying to give Kidd some words of encouragement.
18:25Kidd frustrated.
18:25I think he wanted to still go.
18:28But the referee waved it off.
18:30Interesting stoppage.
18:30What did you think?
18:31No, I agreed to the stoppage.
18:33He was fighting in spurts in there, but he was taking too much pounding to that body.
18:38You know, you're laying in the corner.
18:39You can't think the referee's going to allow you to continue fighting on the ropes and not
18:44throwing punches.
18:45So, Mike Fontanez finishes it off in round number four after a tough round three, which
18:50he had two points deducted for the low blows.
18:52He gets it back.
18:53He gets the knockdown in round four, then finishes it off with a flurry in the corner.
18:58And as you said, Ray, Noah Kidd looked like he was starting to run out of steam, fighting
19:02in spurts, as you mentioned, and just not really bringing that same A-level effort in round four.
19:07Yes.
19:08And I think that's just a combination.
19:09Again, that's how Mike Fontanez does it.
19:11He just wears you down over time until he finally gets you out of there.
19:15That's knockout number eight for Mike Fontanez, another big victory.
19:18He gets the job done.
19:19He's not in there to get a knockout.
19:20He's in there to get a win.
19:21And he wears you down.
19:22He touches, touches, touches.
19:23Power.
19:23Touches, touches.
19:24Power.
19:25You have to touch.
19:25You can see it right now.
19:27How he's touching.
19:28Touching.
19:28And back to that body.
19:30Touching.
19:30Touching.
19:31Back to that body.
19:33So Fontanez gets the victory.
19:34I thought a great showing by him.
19:36Faced a little bit of adversity there in round three.
19:38He never really had a situation like that where he had points deducted.
19:42And it kind of throws a monkey wrench into the system a bit.
19:45But Fontanez, I thought, responded brilliantly in round four to really show a lot of poise.
19:49Because a lot of fighters, myself, would have went nuts.
19:54Don't go anywhere.
19:55Your co-main event is about to walk to the ring.
20:06Ladies and gentlemen, the winner at 258 of round number four, your winner by TKO, the last
20:33southpaw, Mike Fontanez.
20:39258 into round four.
20:41So just two seconds separated Noah Kidd from a potential fifth round of this fight.
