00:00Rachel Brosnahan marvelously took home the Emmy as Mrs. Maisel.
00:04Was comedy your first thing? Where did you start in the industry?
00:06I was a well-known comedy killer.
00:08And is fearlessly stepping into the iconic role of Lois Lane.
00:12You go in the bushes.
00:13No!
00:14But now she's taking on a deeply personal assignment for her best friend.
00:18Oh, hi!
00:19Hello!
00:20Carly and I met about 15 years ago, and now we're just family.
00:24And her best friend's parents, who have been like a second family to her for more than a decade.
00:28We've been talking a lot about wanting to make this space a more livable home.
00:33Ron and Robin, they've been some of my biggest champions and supporters.
00:37Hello!
00:38Hi!
00:39I know that you guys have had a really difficult last couple of years.
00:42You spend so much time in this kitchen.
00:44We want to give it a little bit more love.
00:47It's dark. It's cramped.
00:48Everything is, like, baby-proof.
00:50My brother was once a baby, and now he's in college.
00:53Now he's 21!
00:55They are gonna die when they see this.
00:57For her family to have this space that they've lived in for so long, really start a new chapter for them.
01:05Oh, my God!
01:07It's gonna be really meaningful.
01:09Isn't it amazing?
01:11It's amazing.
01:11Oh, my God!
01:12It's amazing!
01:12Amazing!
01:12Amazing!
01:13Amazing!
01:13Amazing!
01:13So this is actually a good thing to know.
01:26Do you have an interest in construction, design, stuff like that?
01:32Yes! I love it.
01:33I'm such a nerd for this stuff, and I feel like it actually started when we were shooting The Marvelous Miss Maisel.
01:38You walk onto those sets, and you feel like you've time-traveled, and the crew who builds the whole thing, but also our, you know, the production designers, the set designers, like, you open every drawer, and there's mail from the 1950s.
01:49So I feel like I really fell in love with design, watching that apartment get rebuilt, and then rebuilt again.
01:55Was comedy your first thing?
01:56No.
01:57Where did you start in the industry?
01:58Definitely not in comedy.
01:59I was a well-known comedy killer for the first five or six years of my career.
02:02Comedy assassin?
02:03You've done action before, right?
02:04Not really.
02:05Oh.
02:06Yeah.
02:07I think ye olde Superman might be my first foray.
02:12I want to have a conversation about this.
02:14When you get that call to play one of the most iconic characters, did you have to just take a minute to jump up and down and be like, this is actually happening?
02:26I just felt like I couldn't believe it.
02:28I mean, we, we, so we, we chemistry tested David Kornswett, who plays Superman, and I, but I didn't know if I had the job.
02:36And, and, uh, and I was in, I think I was in a, like, a bathroom in a store in New York City, and my phone rang, and it said James Gunn.
02:47And he just went, hey, how would you like to be our Lois Lane?
02:51And, but I was in a public place, I couldn't really do anything, and then the toilet flushed in the background, and I was like, God.
02:58But I think your most epic role is about to happen, and that's renovating Carly's parents' place.
03:04Yeah.
03:05Tell us about them.
03:06It sounds like Robin and Ron sound like the most amazing people.
03:09They really, really are.
03:11So, Carly and I have been friends for about 15 years now, but we're more than friends, we're chosen family.
03:17And so, obviously, I've gotten to know Ron and Robin.
03:20They've come to every event for the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, both in New York and here.
03:24Oh, my God.
03:25They've been some of my biggest champions and supporters.
03:28This is what's impressive to me.
03:30It just shows how big a heart you have.
03:32I understand somebody giving back to their bestie, but you're not just giving back to your bestie.
03:36You're giving back to your bestie's parents.
03:38That's pretty cool.
03:39And they've also had a really, really difficult last couple years.
03:43The family's had a number of, they've had enough once-in-a-lifetime health issues for many lifetimes.
03:50Thankfully, you know, they're coming out the other side of this period, and it feels like the perfect time just to be able to spread a little bit of extra love in the house the way that they do on everybody else.
04:03So, are they going to be home, do you think?
04:05I think they're going to be home.
04:06When they see you guys, they are going to absolutely die.
04:10Is it this one?
04:12It's right here.
04:13Okay.
04:14Let's park this back here a little bit so we can be sneaky.
04:15Yeah.
04:16We're going to get to surprise three people, so we've got to be real sneaky.
04:19Super sneaky.
04:20Let's do it.
04:21How do we want to do this?
04:22Do you want us to hide behind the bushes?
04:24Do you know what?
04:25I feel like, actually...
04:26You go in the bushes!
04:27No!
04:28Oh, the wrestler!
04:29The wrestler!
04:30Not the wrestler!
04:31Okay.
04:32I feel like...
04:33I feel like if you guys show up, you're so tall.
04:36I feel like if you guys show up, she's going to have no idea what's happening, and it'll be really fun, and then I'll come out and...
04:40So you hide?
04:41Will you hide?
04:42Okay.
04:43I'll hide.
04:44In the bush.
04:45Go as a driver.
04:48I'm going through the car.
04:58Oh, hi.
04:59Hello.
05:00How are you?
05:01I'm good.
05:02We're just door-to-door salesmen.
05:03We're selling renovations.
05:04Yes.
05:05Drew, how are you?
05:06I'm Carly.
05:07It's nice to meet you.
05:08Nice to meet you.
05:09How are you?
05:10I'm Carly.
05:11I'm a huge fan of yours.
05:12Well, thank you.
05:19Surprise.
05:20Oh, my God.
05:21Okay.
05:22What are you guys doing here at my parents' house?
05:27Okay.
05:28I have a little bit of a swing to do.
05:30Carly and I met about 15 years ago in theater and therapy class at NYU.
05:36We both needed theater, we both needed therapy, and then we found each other.
05:43After college, we got closer and closer.
05:46You go, God, I'm going to cry, but I know that you guys have had a really, really difficult last couple of years.
05:50Obviously, you're my sister wife, my chosen family, but your family's also an extension of mine.
05:58This is my extended family.
05:59Carly was a bridesmaid in my wedding.
06:01We've, you know, been there while other friends have had babies and families have grown and family members have been lost.
06:09You know, Carly spent days with me during a really difficult period in my life where I lost a very close family member and just sat on the couch with me, drank beer with me.
06:21We watched mindless television together.
06:23We're literally on a family cell phone plan.
06:26We've been talking a lot about wanting to make this space and little ways to make this space a more livable home.
06:33So I brought these guys to maybe do some slightly less little updates to this space.
06:39And obviously for you, this is your childhood home.
06:42You grew up here, but also this is for your parents.
06:45This is for your whole family.
06:47Obviously, Robin and your entire family have been through such a difficult time.
06:51And, you know, Robin loves to cook.
06:54Yeah.
06:55And so I thought that maybe we could give her a new kitchen so that she can have a space to take care of herself and everyone else.
07:05I know how hard it's been.
07:07You've taken such good care of me for such a long time.
07:09And so this is just a small way that I can help take care of you guys.
07:15You've been like a rock to me this whole time.
07:18You really, like, your friendship is enough.
07:21And so just to be here and have this thought to do this for us is like, it's going to change their lives and mine.
07:28And I'm just, I'm beyond grateful.
07:30And you are my sister.
07:31Like, you're my family.
07:33Should we bring your parents out to?
07:35Yeah.
07:36Where's Robin?
07:37They're not here right now.
07:38What?
07:39What?
07:40You said they would be here.
07:42Oh, no.
07:43Where are they?
07:44They're gone for like 30 minutes.
07:45Oh, okay.
07:46Oh, okay.
07:47They're on vacation.
07:48I was like, oh, no.
07:49Okay.
07:50No, no, no, no.
07:51I kind of want to get inside and have a look at the space room.
07:52Yeah.
07:53Oh, my God.
07:54Let's do it.
07:55This home means a lot to me.
07:56It's the center of our little family.
07:58First, we get to walk through a perfectly not dated pocket door to enter a perfectly not dated kitchen.
08:05Nothing in the house really has been updated and it is pure from the 70s.
08:10Perfectly preserved.
08:11I don't know where to begin telling you about why I despise this kitchen.
08:15Well, okay.
08:16Listen, it's just well loved.
08:17It's really, really well loved.
08:18Very well loved.
08:19Who's the cook in the house?
08:20My step-mom, Robin, is the cook of the house.
08:23She's obsessed with cooking.
08:25We have family dinners.
08:26We do Passover.
08:27We, like, love to host.
08:28And she cooks, like, every meal she cooks here in the kitchen.
08:31It sounds like we're in, like, a sound booth.
08:33Yeah, yeah.
08:34We sound so isolated.
08:35You can't see or hear anything from us in the house.
08:37You literally can't.
08:38Peaceful.
08:39But, you know, if Ron or Carly are working in different rooms, there's just, you know, Robin's in here alone for hours at a time.
08:44Yeah.
08:45She cooks such elaborate stuff.
08:46She does.
08:47She cooks everything from scratch.
08:48Oh, everything is, like, baby-proof.
08:50What?
08:51Is there a baby in the house?
08:52My brother was once a baby.
08:53There was once a baby.
08:54And now we can call it.
08:55Now he's 21.
08:56What?
08:57Yeah.
08:58Everything at all?
08:59No, you can't.
09:00Oh, well, these have been broken so many times.
09:02Oh, my gosh.
09:03That is hilarious.
09:04It's just, like, an endless sea of problems.
09:06The sink, you can't really do anything with the sink because of the way it's divided.
09:09And somehow there's no countertop space for all the things that she needs.
09:12It's dark.
09:13It's cramped.
09:14It's crowded.
09:15Do you think that Ron and Robin are attached to the layout of the kitchen?
09:20Because, you know, I feel like you guys spend so much time in this living space.
09:23You're working there or, like, in the backyard.
09:25Do you think she'd care if we knocked down this wall?
09:28No more beautiful words have ever been spoken.
09:30Really?
09:31Yeah.
09:32Make it go.
09:33Knock it down.
09:34Just combine it.
09:35So what is this?
09:36This is the dining room?
09:37That's the dining room.
09:38And it'll bring the light in, too.
09:39It's so dark in here.
09:40Yeah.
09:41And, like, gross.
09:42Well, so you'll lose some of the cabinets.
09:43But in reality, the layout is terrible.
09:44Like, where this fridge is and how it blocks the corner.
09:46It's so big.
09:47Do you guys actually use this?
09:48Because I've actually never seen you use this table.
09:50You're completely right.
09:51You don't use it.
09:52No.
09:53Well, you know what's interesting?
09:54If you were opening this up, because your dining table's right there.
09:56Yeah.
09:57There's nothing really to look at out that window, either.
09:59You could close that off and have all that additional storage.
10:02That would be amazing.
10:03That would be great.
10:04And another thing they love, they do love the idea of this tiny island that has made this kitchen even smaller.
10:09So if there's some way to, like, have a seating or an island or something that could function instead of the table that we've never used in addition to the dining room, that would be much better.
10:17They love having something in the middle there that they can kind of work with, use as a prep space.
10:22Imagine how much more light will cascade through here if this is all open.
10:27And then whoever's cooking doesn't have to feel like they're shunned from the action.
10:32I see shadows.
10:33There's shadows at the door.
10:34Oh, okay.
10:35Oh, my God.
10:36Are we...
10:37Should we hide?
10:38Are we supposed to hide, or would we...
10:39Oh, my God.
10:40If you...
10:41No, why don't we just...
10:42We'll sit around, and then when they come around...
10:43That's perfect.
10:44Let's sit.
10:45They're gonna lose their way.
10:46They're gonna lose that.
10:47They have three surprises in one.
10:48You go get them.
10:49I'm just so excited about this because they've gone through so much.
10:52Come this way.
10:53What's going on?
10:54And it's been such a dark time, and we're finally coming out on the other side of it.
10:58Hello.
10:59Hi.
11:00Hi.
11:01Hi.
11:02What's happening?
11:03I don't know.
11:04What are you doing?
11:06Rachel.
11:08Nice to meet you.
11:09Nice to meet you.
11:10Nice to meet you.
11:11Robin.
11:12Nice to meet you.
11:13Nice to meet you.
11:14Jonathan.
11:15Hi, come to our house.
11:16Rachel.
11:18Please take a seat.
11:19Sure.
11:20This is a little bit crazy, but I knew that Carly was coming out to visit you guys, and so
11:22very quickly hopped on a plane and called some friends to come over.
11:28You guys have been so important to me for such a long time.
11:32Obviously, Carly and I have been best friends for 15 years, but one of the best parts of
11:35being best friends with Carly has been...
11:37Oh my God.
11:38I'm so emotional.
11:39One of the best parts of getting to know Carly has been getting to know you guys, and
11:44you guys have been so supportive of both of us.
11:49But I've been so moved by how supportive you guys have been of me over these years, and
11:55how much you've welcomed me into your lives and into your family.
11:59You guys do so much for so many people, me included, and this felt like a little bit
12:04of an opportunity to give something back to you.
12:06I know, Robin, obviously you love to cook.
12:09You spend so much time in this kitchen that is so well-loved, but I think we want to give
12:15it a little bit more love.
12:17If you guys are cool with it, we want to do something pretty spectacular here.
12:21I have no words.
12:22It's too much.
12:24I don't know.
12:27I mean, I'm just grateful for Rachel and her relationship with Carly and to have supportive.
12:32They've been to each other.
12:33It's just really lovely.
12:35But I do have to say, I am going to kick you out.
12:38Already?
12:39We just got here.
12:40I'm going to give you a lease tonight to pack, but I am going to have to give you
12:44the boot so that we can get in here and tear down some walls and give you guys a rad new
12:49kitchen.
12:50We'll try and get you guys back as soon as possible.
12:51Okay.
12:52Do us a favor.
12:53No peeking.
12:54But if you pack up your stuff, we'll take care of the rest.
12:56If you told little NYU me that one day my childhood home would be fixed by my best friend, I could
13:02never process it.
13:03I would never believe it.
13:04That wouldn't make sense.
13:05This is a dream she didn't even know she had.
13:08She's really excited and excited for them.
13:11For her family to have this space that they've lived in for so long really start a new chapter
13:18for them is going to be really meaningful.
13:28Okay.
13:29Ready?
13:30Look out.
13:31Oh, nice.
13:33I've always wanted to do demolition.
13:36Put a giant hammer in my hand and I'm a happy girl.
13:40Oh!
13:41Hardcore!
13:42Look at that!
13:43Woo!
13:44Woo!
13:45I got to hit some cabinets.
13:47I got to break some countertops.
13:49I got all my pent up rage out.
13:52Question.
13:53Is this something that you think Robin or Carly has wanted to do for a very long time?
13:58What?
13:59There's this kind of strange door which feels like a relic of the 70s that leads into the
14:04den.
14:05But they don't really need it.
14:09Are you sure you shouldn't be the new Superman?
14:11Yeah.
14:12That's how it works.
14:13This is your audition.
14:14And so we can use that opportunity to create more storage for them there.
14:18Hey, Rachel!
14:20Yeah, what?
14:21I mean, look, these guys are the martial arts experts.
14:24Now that's how you enter a room.
14:26But I did kick down a door today.
14:28Carly and I have been talking for years about trying to find some ways to just make their
14:35lives a little bit easier, a little bit brighter, a little bit cozier.
14:38So that while they were spending more and more time at home, that it would just feel better.
14:44This is incredible.
14:46They are going to absolutely die when they see this.
14:49This is going to change their lives for them to be able to cook in here or sit in here and talk to each other.
14:55You know, your home is the place you come back to.
14:57It's the place you feel safe.
14:59This is something that they wanted forever.
15:01To be able to get in here and put more light into the space, I hope we'll just be able to bring some lightness into this next chapter for them.
15:09She's just going to be so excited.
15:10To move Ron and Robin back into their home as soon as possible, we've agreed to a three-week timeline, which means every day counts.
15:24Rachel signed off on the basic kitchen layout so we can go ahead and start roughing in the electrical and the plumbing.
15:30But before we finalize the design plan, I still have a few questions for Carly about what her parents would want for the space.
15:36This, I'm assuming, is best day ever!
15:41This is, I'm not exaggerating, the best day of my life.
15:44So, yeah.
15:45Carly and Rachel requested a big island in the kitchen.
15:48I have room for a small island, but making it larger will require some prioritizing.
15:53The fact that we're removing this wall across here now opens it up.
15:56So we have the possibility for an island.
15:59We have the sight line through to the dining room and the living room.
16:02I mean, could it, could it flip? Could it get bigger and flip?
16:05Well, the only reason I didn't flip it is because I do have cabinetry here.
16:09Right, right, right.
16:10So this cabinetry would come along and then the pantry up top would end here.
16:14But I would leave lowers with the counter all the way across for extra storage.
16:17Could we move it?
16:19Could we move this, like, over here?
16:23This is the pantry right here?
16:24Yeah.
16:25Could we kind of take this out and move it here?
16:29Okay.
16:30And does that then allow us to turn this and make it a little bit bigger?
16:34We could just eliminate this altogether, this section here.
16:37Yeah.
16:38Which then we've got, the only reason it was smaller is because of that.
16:40I control the pen.
16:42So, yeah, then if we're moving the pantry over here, I would move the microwave drawer as well.
16:48Am I allowed to have one pen for one minute?
16:50Just one minute.
16:51The blue one.
16:52Oh, you can have my last favorite pen.
16:54Look, Lois Lane.
16:55Wow.
16:57So, if this is gone, we could get you probably...
17:01Would you get additional seats in there?
17:03Yeah, I think we could get you three, maybe four seats.
17:06We'll have to see.
17:07It's a four person family, but I feel like three would be okay.
17:09Three would be gorgeous.
17:10Two or three pendants.
17:11Oh, my God.
17:12Wow.
17:13That's great.
17:14It also makes the flow really nice.
17:16So, when it comes to the cabinetry, have you ever heard your parents talking about colors
17:20that they like, colors that they don't like, things like that?
17:23Yeah, I know they really like wood tones, things that feel warm, open, airy.
17:27They like pops of color, but subtle, something that's like warm and earthy, I think.
17:30Okay.
17:31Would they be open to two-tone?
17:32Yeah.
17:33Yeah, I think so.
17:34Yeah, for sure.
17:35We could actually change it out and do like a wood tone for the upper cabinets there.
17:37That'd be beautiful.
17:38Glass wood.
17:39Would they like something light like this for the lowers?
17:41Yes.
17:42I think it's gorgeous.
17:43Okay.
17:44And then, what about as far as like style, what kind of profile?
17:47What do you think?
17:48I mean...
17:49I differ to my design queen.
17:50Let's see.
17:52I mean, I feel like this is a nice in-between.
17:56This has quite a lot of personality.
17:58The low profile shaker is one of my favorites.
18:00It just feels like it's fresh, it's new, but it still has a hint to the age of a home, so...
18:04Yeah.
18:05That sounds good to me.
18:06It doesn't go full cottage.
18:07I love it.
18:08So, this style...
18:09I love it.
18:10A mix of the wood and the white.
18:12Gorgeous.
18:13Yeah.
18:14And then, what are we thinking...
18:15It's clean, it's simple, I think it's beautiful.
18:16Yeah, what are we thinking then for stone?
18:18I have a question.
18:19Do they like marble?
18:20I actually know that they don't love marble.
18:21It's true.
18:22Okay.
18:23They don't love it, right?
18:24It's like the veining that they don't...
18:25Okay.
18:26Yeah, they don't love it.
18:27You're right, you're totally right.
18:28Because we could do something that doesn't have the veining, or we can do something...
18:30I like a honed finish.
18:31I think a honed finish is nice and looks natural.
18:32I also prefer a honed finish.
18:33Yeah.
18:34We could take that right up the backsplash.
18:36Beautiful.
18:37And that would be pretty seamless.
18:38Do you want to do anything with the hood?
18:40We can either do something that's just like metal, zinc, plain, or we could do something
18:47that adds a little personality.
18:48They definitely...
18:49I mean...
18:50Personality.
18:51Personality would be great.
18:52The set mom is so sunshiny and loves light and bright and happy, warm things.
18:58You like some of the warmer tones and something that's got a little bit of a pattern to it.
19:02I would love that.
19:03Yeah.
19:04They really love specifically Mexican tile.
19:06We're going to do that on the hood over the stove.
19:09All right, guys.
19:10I think we've done good.
19:11I love it.
19:12I think I will clean this up.
19:13Actually, you know what?
19:14At this point, I think we are going to officially boot you out.
19:16Can't get out.
19:17You cannot come back until it is done.
19:19Okay.
19:20Bye.
19:21Bye.
19:22I can't thank you enough for this.
19:23With the wall gone between the kitchen and dining room, we'll replace the flooring in
19:27both rooms with a mid-toned engineered hardwood that will flex with both a contemporary and
19:31sophisticated vibe.
19:32In the kitchen, we'll delete a window and the entry to the den to make more room for storage.
19:37One side features sleek two-tone cabinets, including rich walnut appliance garages that span the countertop, while the perimeter of the kitchen features off-white cabinets and durable porcelain countertops to give Robin all the prep space she's been craving.
19:49Robin is environmentally conscious and loves to cook, so we'll give her chef-worthy appliances, including a panel-ready fridge, built-in microwave, an eco-friendly induction range, and two- drawer dishwasher that conserves water.
20:00Ron and Robin love local and they love a pop of color, so we'll source some brighter topanga tile to wrap our range hood.
20:07Before we add a large custom island with plenty of storage on one side and seating on the other so Robin can always feel connected to family and friends while she's cooking.
20:15And finally in the dining room, we'll showcase a large European ash wood table to round out Ron and Robin's cooking and entertaining oasis.
20:22All right, nice work. We will make this happen.
20:24In a very, very, very small way.
20:28I have helped rebuild their new kitchen, so they can never get rid of me now.
20:33Can you tell I've never operated a drill before?
20:49It's all about the angle. You're at a slate block.
20:51Yeah. Oh, wow.
20:53All right.
20:54You do everything every day.
20:55Woo!
20:56This is gonna be a little tricky. It's gonna take a little bit of work to push it out.
20:59Okay.
21:00So if you want to throw your drill down and then we have to find a weak spot and then exploit it.
21:07See if you can...
21:08Scott?
21:09So we're gonna tilt it down.
21:12There we go. Nice.
21:14Ow!
21:15That's how easy it is to take out a window.
21:17Cool.
21:18Do you want to use the nailer or do you want to try the saw?
21:21I'm gonna go for the saw.
21:23The saw?
21:24I think I'm ready.
21:25How could you miss the opportunity to try a powerful saw?
21:28Go ahead.
21:29All right.
21:30Slowly move forward.
21:39That was the slowest, most precise cut I've ever seen in construction.
21:44Thanks so much.
21:45It was so good.
21:46All right, great.
21:47There, your first one down.
21:48Already you feel better.
21:49Grab that one.
21:50We're gonna use that as a guide.
21:51I did some, some thing with a large gun tool thing.
21:56I held a saw which nobody but the Property Brothers would ever allow me to do.
22:01Oh my God, I keep closing my eyes.
22:03Don't worry.
22:04Don't close your eyes.
22:05I feel like I could do this professionally.
22:08All right.
22:09I just closed them again.
22:10I don't know why I was so nervous.
22:12Do you need me to saw some more things?
22:14Yeah, if you want to cut a couple more, are you comfortable doing that?
22:16My saw, sir.
22:17Amazing.
22:18See?
22:19Making a good team here.
22:20It's the middle of week two, and there's just a week and a half left, so we are in overdrive.
22:31In the dining room, we're laying down our mid-toned engineered hardwood.
22:36Rachel and Carly said Robin loves natural tones and materials, and this flooring delivers both.
22:41And with the floors down, we can turn our attention to our multi-tone kitchen cabinets,
22:46still in natural feel with the off-white perimeter cabinets, and chestnut for our feature storage wall.
22:51Rachel's away filming for a few days, but we have enough muscle to barrel through our punch list.
22:56Nothing is worse than seeing a countertop that is full of...
23:00In fact, you can't see the countertop because there's so many appliances on it.
23:03If only there was some sort of place to park your appliances.
23:06Like in a garage.
23:08Any hand, or are you good?
23:09No, we're good.
23:10We just have to get past this hand here.
23:12There we go.
23:16This is gonna be so beautiful when it's done.
23:20I love the fact that it looks like a furniture piece.
23:23We'll have the glass up top.
23:25Like, how incredible is that?
23:27That's...no, it's amazing.
23:28It's backwards, but it's amazing.
23:30Yeah.
23:31Will we have an issue with hardware hitting here?
23:33When you pull out the spice rack, I guess we have to make sure...
23:35How wide does it come out?
23:36Full extension?
23:37Yeah, full extension.
23:38So it's...the door is gonna be right here.
23:41Hold on, let's grab...
23:43Because the hardware, they're knobs, right?
23:46So I think they're actually gonna...
23:47So this is one of the doors.
23:49Are you pushed all the way back?
23:51Yeah.
23:52Yeah, I'm screwed up.
23:54Oh, no!
23:58I can adjust that cabinet door slightly to the side.
24:01We could make these ones a push-open.
24:03If we were able to...
24:05Well, that's what I was lining up, because I'm not concerned about the hardware.
24:08I'm concerned about the actual door.
24:11The door's not even opening.
24:12No.
24:13Exactly.
24:14Let me think about it.
24:15Let me think, think, think.
24:16Because I feel like we don't need much.
24:19If this is our door...
24:22Right here.
24:23So our hardware is gonna go basically about there.
24:26So even with this gone, this door will never be able to fully extend.
24:30It's an inch short of extending.
24:32What about...
24:33Or actually, there's an overhang here.
24:34Lose the overhang.
24:35Yeah.
24:36So instead of milling all these, it would be way easier to re-mill that one door a little
24:41more shallow.
24:42We have over an inch.
24:44It's about an inch and a half.
24:45This is my official measurement.
24:47How about I do it with this thing here?
24:50So we have...
24:52Yeah, there's actually exactly one inch.
24:54This is gonna make their kitchen far more functional.
24:56They have all the other counter space that's been added.
24:58We'll get that reduced, and then we should be good.
25:01We were gonna do something that is a movable furniture piece.
25:07I mean...
25:09Look at those legs.
25:10They're gonna love it.
25:11They're gonna get so much use out of this island.
25:14I can't, I can't wait for them to do it.
25:16All right, so a lot to go through.
25:27Yeah.
25:28So we're gonna pick...
25:29Here's the laundry list.
25:30So we have to pick the leg style for the island, which Rachel had requested, like an island
25:35piece that feels a little bit furniture.
25:37Yeah.
25:38So we're gonna meet with Josh at Peak Woodwork.
25:41He's already pulled some leg styles for us to pick from.
25:43Did you tell him not to be afraid of something a little more ornate for the legs?
25:46I just told him to run free.
25:47Okay.
25:48So I guess we'll find out.
25:58Oh, hard at work.
26:00Oh, good morning.
26:01I'm glad you've pulled a few samples.
26:05This is gonna make it quick and easy.
26:06I mean, you've done so many amazing pieces with us before.
26:09I feel this is gonna be an easy process, but Rachel said this is very, very important
26:14to make sure that we get this right.
26:15Should I give Rachel a call?
26:16Yeah, that'd be great.
26:21Hey, how's it going?
26:22It's going well.
26:23We wish you were here.
26:24The whole team is pulling together.
26:26Hey, I know.
26:27I wish I was too.
26:28I'm sorry.
26:29I'm out in beautiful Atlanta.
26:30I'm sure it's gorgeous.
26:32Not as gorgeous as what this island's gonna be.
26:34We've made some suggestions, but at the end of the day, you know them so much better
26:38than we do, and I want to make sure that it's absolutely perfect.
26:41As you know, we're not looking at doing it on a fixed table.
26:43This is just a workbench, by the way, so this isn't what it's gonna look like.
26:46We were gonna do something that is a movable furniture piece that's really stylish
26:50and functional as an island.
26:51So first off, I want to talk spindles with you.
26:54So you see all these different options that we have?
26:56Their style is a little eclectic, right?
26:59So...
27:00Yeah.
27:01We could get away with something a little more ornate like this, and we could get away
27:04with something more substantial instead of something a little skinnier, because it's
27:08gonna be a pretty decent sized piece.
27:10I mean...
27:11Look at those legs.
27:13Okay.
27:14So you can see it's chunky, it's got some size to it, and it's got some beautiful detail.
27:18And then it's a little more streamlined.
27:20Yeah, I don't...
27:21I don't feel like that's quite right here.
27:22Nate one's really interesting, especially with husband for the rest of the kitchen.
27:25Yeah.
27:26It feels like a choice, and it does feel kind of eclectic.
27:28They like it to feel homey.
27:29They like a little bit of cottage vibes, and I feel like that would look really great.
27:34You know, I'm with you, because I like how substantial it is, and with their style, we
27:39can get a little while with a little more shape.
27:42Let's talk color.
27:43If you recall, in the kitchen, we're gonna do a vent hood that is a beautiful tile.
27:48It has a bit of a Spanish flair to it, so the tile is gonna have this color and this color
27:55in it.
27:56It completely depends on how bold you want to go, because I know they do have bold personalities.
28:01I probably wouldn't go with the orange or the red, because it feels like that's covered
28:07in the tile, and I know they're gonna be so obsessed with that tile.
28:10So those are not an option, then we're sort of between the green and that turquoise.
28:15It's tough.
28:16I love the teal color.
28:17I love the idea of that bold moment, but I also feel like they're gonna love that tile
28:23so much that the hunter green kind of feels like the best of both worlds.
28:28It brings in that green-blue palette.
28:31Is that the one you chose?
28:32This is what we chose as well, yeah.
28:34They're gonna love it.
28:35They're gonna get so much use out of this island.
28:38I can't, I can't wait for this.
28:40Well, we are excited to get you back over here.
28:42In the meantime, I have the dream team is really helping us pull us together.
28:45So, have fun in Atlanta, and we will talk to you soon.
28:48Thank you so much.
28:50I can't wait to see you soon.
28:51Sorry, I'm not there right now, but thank you, thank you, thank you.
28:54This is awesome.
28:55All right, see you soon.
28:56Bye.
28:57We can't let a little rain stop us.
29:09We have just one week left to get Ron, Robin, and Carly back in their home.
29:13Today, we're gonna get the countertops and backsplash installed to keep us on schedule.
29:18We're using porcelain instead of stone.
29:20It's durable for cooking and cutting, but also, it's gonna look chic and sophisticated for when Robin's entertaining.
29:25Got your corner.
29:27Yeah.
29:28Yeah, yeah, and then we're gonna slide back your way.
29:33Yep, yep.
29:34That's good.
29:35I do love this idea, though, of having the stone all the way around.
29:40It just makes it all of a sudden feel...
29:42Hold it, hold it, hold it.
29:43Because it's beveled on the edge here, it's gonna chip, so...
29:46Here, I'll hover.
29:47I'll hover.
29:48Here, I'll put little spacers here.
29:50Like that.
29:51Looks gorgeous.
29:52How cool is that?
29:53All of a sudden, it makes it feel like something that's totally custom, like something you would see in a high-end hotel.
29:59Having a porcelain top, zero maintenance, it looks like real stone, but it's giving them the durability and function.
30:05Also, instead of three miniature sinks, how about just two really generous-sized sinks?
30:11In fact, they have more usable space in the sink now than they did when there were three sinks.
30:15Yeah.
30:16Why don't you cut the next piece? Because I don't want to get wet.
30:25My palms are sweating. I have the jitters. Like, I can't believe that this is real.
30:29I may or may not have kicked through one of your walls.
30:32Oh!
30:33Oh, my God!
30:34Oh!
30:35Oh!
30:36One, two, three.
30:38Oh!
30:39What?
30:40Where am I?
30:41We have just three days to go before the big day and a lot to do.
30:48Today is all about adding the dramatic pop of color that Rachel and Carly know Ron and Robin will love.
30:55Okay, there's one of your signed pieces.
30:58These tiles are really beautiful. And it's crazy that this is just like a neighbor. This is like a local...
31:03Yeah.
31:04A local artisan.
31:05I think that the style here is so in line with what Robin and Ron would love to have.
31:11In the dining room, when it comes to chandeliers, scale is everything. And as a rule, the diameter of the chandelier should be about half to two-thirds the width of the dining table.
31:21The panel-ready appliances are also getting crossed off our to-do list.
31:25Both Robin and Ron are very environmentally conscious, which we love.
31:29So Rachel wants appliances that will keep that in mind.
31:32Eco-friendly appliances are always a great option.
31:35So we're installing a state-of-the-art induction range instead of gas.
31:38And our dishwasher uses a lot less water and energy.
31:41Two-drawer dishwasher going in.
31:44All the stone that's easy for cleaning, undermancing.
31:46I mean, we're trying to make this a kitchen that will be so easy to maintain
31:50and look great for a long time.
31:52I think they're going to be happy.
32:00All right.
32:01So...
32:02All right.
32:03I'll do this part because I feel like...
32:04Could you reach this?
32:05Or is that...
32:06Yeah, definitely.
32:07Give me a second to hold this.
32:08All right.
32:09Very good.
32:10Yeah, let me just...
32:12These are so cute.
32:14They're really going to like these, I think.
32:15Yeah.
32:16Well, and of course...
32:17It's something that feels kind of natural, like the texture of the backsplash.
32:20That's how you get the light...
32:21Yeah.
32:22...because of the glass, but it still has that little extra touch.
32:25Everything in here feels so elevated.
32:29Your way a little bit.
32:30Watch that.
32:31Hold on a second.
32:32I think you went a little too far.
32:34How's that?
32:35One, two, three.
32:37Whoa!
32:38Look at that.
32:39It looks great.
32:41I would like to point out that this is your first piece of furniture that you've designed.
32:46Well, listen.
32:47I'm coming for the Property Brothers with Brosnahan Builds, so...
32:50Yeah!
32:51The legs turned out so beautifully.
32:52Yeah.
32:53I love them.
32:54Well, it really does look like a piece of furniture.
32:56The brass pop on the hardware.
32:57Once we style it out, get some stools here.
32:59Yeah.
33:00This is going to be amazing.
33:01I mean, it's just so nice to have that extra seating.
33:02It's like, you know, you have the dining room table, but they can have friends over.
33:06They can have family over.
33:07They can throw parties.
33:08This is Ron's spot.
33:09Right there?
33:10Yep.
33:11And then Robin will be doing her thing here.
33:12Carly over here.
33:13Yeah.
33:14You're in the middle.
33:15I feel like we're officially done construction.
33:17You've got the rest of the knobs on.
33:19We're good.
33:20I think we need to start dressing this.
33:21The hutch, the island, these are all feeling like furniture pieces.
33:24They don't feel like built-in structures.
33:26They don't feel like a kitchen island.
33:28And also, the style that comes out of that bent hood with the tile.
33:32This is a cool kitchen.
33:33It's got so much quirky personality.
33:38I'm so excited.
33:39And like, I'm not nervous.
33:40I'm just like, I have the jitters.
33:41Like, I can't believe that this is real.
33:42Carly's been texting me every day being like, what's it look like?
33:43I know.
33:44I've been trying to subliminally get her to just give me like a little tip off accidentally.
33:49I would like to hear about your experience with the saws.
33:51I very briefly wielded a saw.
33:52And, um...
33:53You're so cool.
33:54And we tore some stuff down.
33:55I may or may not have kicked through one of your walls.
33:56Oh.
33:57Oh.
33:58You're such a badass.
33:59I do not even worry about what it's going to look like.
34:00Yeah, save.
34:01I'm not worried.
34:02I know it's going to be amazing.
34:03And I have not been concerned about it at all.
34:04And I'm just really looking forward to seeing it.
34:05That's all.
34:06Yeah.
34:07If you could imagine.
34:08Aside from the zebra print wallpaper, what are you the most excited?
34:09Wait, wait, go back to what?
34:15Sorry, what?
34:16Oh, nothing.
34:17You're going to love it.
34:18Shoot, it's a spoiler.
34:19I think so.
34:20I think so.
34:21Oh, it's better.
34:22It's better than the extra thing.
34:23Yeah, there's a lot of experience.
34:24It's better than it is.
34:25You're going to love it.
34:26Oh, everywhere.
34:27So amazing.
34:28You're on the other side of the white or white.
34:29Wait, wait, wait.
34:30The blue...
34:31Sorry.
34:32What?
34:33Oh, nothing.
34:34Oh, nothing.
34:35You're going to love it.
34:36I think she revealed them.
34:37Spoiler.
34:38Way more than that.
34:39Oh, my God, you guys.
34:40It's here.
34:41It's happening.
34:42It's happening.
34:43It's happening.
34:44Oh, my God.
34:45Oh, my God.
34:46Oh, my God.
34:47Oh, my God.
34:48Oh, my God.
34:49Get out over.
34:50Oh, my bright nose.
34:51Let me get that door, please.
34:53Yes.
34:54Get me out of here.
34:55There.
34:56Hello.
34:57Wow, this is crazy.
34:58Come on in.
34:59Good to see you.
35:00Amazing.
35:01Doing great.
35:02How are you feeling?
35:03Doing good.
