00:00In and out of the G League, maybe overseas, they play Summer League, they're trying to establish their place in the NBA.
00:06Sometimes it's not a straight line.
00:08And it is probably the most difficult league to make, you know, for any of these guys who've ever played sports in their life.
00:16Orlando 0-2, Scalabissiere out of Kentucky.
00:20Orlando dropped that game 84-81.
00:23Thunder are 2-0 with wins over Brooklyn and Indiana.
00:25A.J. Mitchell with a runner, and A.J. Mitchell, he was in and out of the lineup, had some injuries last year.
00:32They did not play at a particularly high pace, and they led the league in fewest points allowed per game.
00:37Part of it was their defensive ability.
00:39Moore laces to three.
00:40That's Wendell Moore, Jr., seven straight by the Magic to take a four-point lead.
00:46Orlando has had a good summer.
00:47They focused on shooting.
00:50Allison, very nice.
00:52His second assist of the game.
00:55Out of the double team.
00:57Good spotting Carlson, however, with the denial.
01:02Well, I'm like Adam.
01:04You know, I do my homework every time.
01:09Pretty bank shot by Gortman.
01:12And he triples the Magic into a 14-13 lead.
01:15Topic trying to turn the corner.
01:18Corner three comes up short.
01:20Offensive rebound.
01:21Put back Cameron Brown.
01:23Action, how are you feeling out there?
01:26Tired.
01:26I'm feeling good to be back out, though, with the guys.
01:29I've been looking forward to being back out on the court.
01:31So, you know, just got to keep pushing through it and keep going.
01:35As you get acclimated back into the system, what are you focusing on?
01:39Just physicality.
01:40I think I want to bring physicality to the game.
01:42Just effort and, you know, be someone that people can look to.
01:48So, Brandon Carlson returning to action and on cue.
01:53Delivers the jump to play.
01:54This is the Jamal Mosley way we want to play.
01:56Well, I really think, you know, it starts off with personnel.
01:58You know, we have guys that want to defend.
02:00We just took it at one game at a time and didn't try to get too far ahead of ourselves.
02:05It was just, how do we win the game tonight?
02:07And are we following the right process to get going to professional?
02:10You know, I think more than just on the floor, you know, his locker room strength, his voice.
02:14And then, you know, people forget a lot of times, too, not just him playing with Desmond.
02:18Acknowledge and have an impact on the game today to someone such as yourself.
02:24Just shows us the geniuses that we've had in our league.
02:28And those two were always together, right?
02:30Always together, the way in which they did it.
02:32And having a message and then continuing that as we built this up,
02:37as we're all on the same page of the type of guys we want.
02:39Late in the first half.
02:40And then the Thunder scored the final nine of the first half.
02:46And there's a follow-up by Carlson with Desmond Bain, Tyus Jones.
02:51And if they can remain healthy, and Isaiah, for so many years when they were not in the playoffs,
02:56a big reason why?
02:58So many injuries throughout the year.
03:01Barnheiser lays it up and lays it in for the Thunder.
03:03Yeah, and they've had some of their best players miss long, extended periods of time.
03:10And that's why, you know, you have to give a coach and the coaching staff a lot of credit
03:14for keeping their guys motivated.
03:18Thunder up double digits.
03:19Yes, a three and the foul for Brandon Carlson.
03:28Or are you uncoachable?
03:30Because those guys get weeded out a long time in the process.
03:34They're gone a long time ago.
03:36So when a coach tells me that, I hear, coach, you can't inspire this player.
03:44You can't get this player to do what you want to do.
03:46So you give him a bad label and you put a label on him that's not accurate.
03:52Champion.
03:53Austin Reeves.
03:55Lou Dort might be a champion.
03:57Lou Dort is a champion.
03:58So, I mean, again, it's not always the players, but it's a coach.
04:08Mitchell.
04:10Love his game.
04:13Good shooter.
04:15Not afraid to put it on the deck and attack the rack.
04:18Speaking of attacking the rack, but nothing there for Ethan Thompson.
04:24There's Mitchell.
04:25Downhill again.
04:26Hanging and hitting.
04:27And the foul.
04:29I wanted to know how do you win, too.
04:31And at that time, the Pittsburgh Steelers had won back-to-back.
04:35And Chuck Noe was the coach.
04:37And I want to spend some time with Chuck Noe that they can beat him.
04:41And right now, we have a league that still thinks that they can beat O.K.
04:46Oh, nice move.
04:48Topic.
04:48Yes.
04:49Going to the rack.
04:50Today, how's your offseason been?
04:52Good.
04:52It's been great.
04:53Relaxing.
04:53Working on my body.
04:55Enjoying time with friends and family.
04:56Really just recharging.
04:57You mentioned working on your body.
04:59I know you suffered a knee injury.
05:00Coming back, how has that process been like, just recovering and making sure that you're
05:04good to go?
05:05It's been great.
05:05A lot of the opportunity to really work on everything.
05:07Upper body, lower body.
05:08Especially the knee.
05:09So I'm really coming in the year confident, strong, and that's what all the work is for.
05:14Coming into this next year, we're excited to see that next level that you're going to
05:17tap into.
05:18But what does that look like for you?
05:20I think continue to be more efficient in every way.
05:23As a teammate, as a scorer, as a defender, and really just in life.
05:26I think as we continue to do that, the game slows down and becomes much easier.
05:31So looking forward to that and adjusting with a new team.
05:34Yes, absolutely.
05:35With the magic, fully healthy and full strength, what do you believe this team can do?
05:40I mean, the sky's the limit.
05:41I think, obviously, everybody's mindset is going on winning the championship.
05:45You know, you hate to see guys go down, but there's opportunity in the East, and I think
05:48everyone recognizes it.
05:49So everybody's prepping for it.
05:51We're all on the same page.
05:52And, yeah, very excited to start the year.
05:53It brings a different energy.
05:55So you've got some guys out here who are trying to make their way for the Orlando Magic.
05:59Who has caught your attention the most and impressed you?
06:02I know you've been to a few of their summer league games so far.
06:05I think Jason Noah's done a great job.
06:07They're chilling today.
06:09And we get a hand one.
06:10But I think they've done a great job, you know, just in handling everything, adjusting
06:14to a different pace of game.
06:15With everything going on out here this weekend, you know, a lot of eyes, a lot of cameras,
06:18new adjustment to the team.
06:20And I think they're being great teammates.
06:22You know, they're supporting.
06:23They're loud.
06:23They're clapping for everybody.
06:24So I think that's the part that matters.
06:26Have you been able to talk to any of the guys, catch up with them, give them advice?
06:29Yeah, absolutely.
06:30You know, just give them my love.
06:31Give them my two cents.
06:32But I think they're doing a great job.
06:34And as they continue to experience, they'll learn.
06:36Because they're high-character guys and very smart.
06:38You know what it's like to play here in summer league.
06:40I mean, with your debut, you had 22 points.
06:42What do you remember your time from just showcasing what you could do out here?
06:46Just being so excited to put the jersey on.
06:48To have an NBA team, you know, across my chest.
06:50That says my name on the back.
06:51You know, I have my family front girl watching.
06:53Really just a dope moment for everybody involved.
06:56It really just showed how far, you know, the journey of basketball has taken me.
06:59So it was a fun day.
07:00It was a competitive night.
07:01And I'm glad we came out with the win.
07:02That was what I was most happy with.
07:04Well, we're excited to see you come into this next season.
07:07And we hope you enjoy the rest of your offseason.
07:09I appreciate it.
07:10Thank you for the time.
07:17Such a gifted Carlson with the follow of his own miss.
07:21They may have an off night or two.
07:23But when you're talking Tyus Jones and Desmond Vane, those two are not going to have off shooting nights.
07:30Mitchell for the Thunder. Carlson bodies up, hooks and hits. How can Carlson not be drafted?
07:41What the hell? Who was watching? I mean, what's right? Sam Preston was. I know.
07:50By Wendell Moore Jr. And right now down by 12 versus the Thunder. What's going to be key in
07:55stringing some offense together to close out this final frame? I think it's our defense. I think if
07:59we get stops, we got in transition. We can get open on corner threes like we have early in this half.
08:04And yeah, I think that'll help us get back in this game. Speaking of defense, I know you have 12
08:08points, seven rebounds right now, but your coach was telling me that he has been challenging you
08:13of guarding the best player. Why is that important to you to showcase that you are a two-way player?
08:18I mean, just because he knows I can do it. I mean, that's what's going to get me on the floor
08:20in this league is defense early. And if I can knock down some open shots, it'll help, of course. But
08:24I think for me, it all starts with defense. So I mean, him challenging me is just making me better.
08:27Thank you. The rebound is seventh of the game. Carlson in the season finale. Some pressure
08:36there, but Carlson season finale against New Orleans, 26 and 10 with three blocks. That's
08:44why it was just one free throw there. Six and a half remaining and a 12-point Thunder advantage.
08:52Nice rainbow jumper.
08:57But to your point, yep, it was a legal strip.
09:01Topic with the runner.
09:03What's most important to this franchise is just getting him acclimated since it's been such a long
09:08time without basketball.
09:10Ethan Thompson hits that last three.
09:12Leones responds with a three.
09:20Leones.
09:22Oh, pretty move.
09:24Fakes the...
09:25Three minutes remaining in regulation. Mitchell driving, floating, hitting, and the foul.
09:35Pelicans, then tomorrow on ESPN2, you'll see Kings and Cavaliers, Bucks and Bulls, 330 and 530.
09:44Respectively.
09:45What will the 76ers look like next year?
09:52That is a question.
