00:00Could Cardiff City soon be under a new ownership regime?
00:05Well, that's the current talk in the press as things stand with Gareth Bale of all people,
00:12the former Welsh international star who played for, of course, Tottenham Hotspur and Real
00:17Madrid in terms of his notable clubs.
00:20He is currently part of a consortium that is looking to invest into Cardiff City, which
00:25would not actually make him the first ex-Real Madrid player to invest in the South Wales
00:30side.
00:30In fact, of course, Luka Modric bought into Swansea City not too long ago.
00:35So Gareth Bale wouldn't be the first, but it would create a bit of competition between
00:38the two sides.
00:39Of course, Swansea City currently in the championship, Cardiff City now languishing in League One.
00:43But Gareth Bale, part of a potential consortium looking to invest.
00:48So a very interesting story this one is in terms of what this could bring to Cardiff City,
00:54whether it actually happens for one, and of course, what the future may hold for the
00:59Bluebirds if Gareth Bale and a potential consortium were to invest in the club and what changes
01:04this would bring to the club and what ideas someone like Gareth Bale could have for a club,
01:08of course, from his own country.
01:10So to find out more, let's go now to Charles Hague-Jones, our Wales sport correspondent.
01:15So Charles, what's the latest on this situation?
01:17Just how likely is it, first of all?
01:19And if it were to happen, what would this mean for Cardiff City?
01:24For the current owners, of course, are they willing sellers?
01:26Are they reluctant sellers?
01:29And what would Gareth Bale and his consortium do if they were to come in?
01:32Of course, they're in League One at the moment under Brian Barry Murphy, looking to get things
01:37going ahead of the new season.
01:39But this own ownership group, would they create things for the better?
01:43Or would it just be perhaps a similar mould to the way things currently are?
01:47What more can you tell us?
01:50Yeah, of course.
01:51Obviously, massive investment throughout League One last season.
01:55And as you rightly mentioned there, Birmingham City and Wrexham going up in incredible seasons.
02:01But also behind the scenes, you have to look at that and look at the investment these sides
02:06have had.
02:06These sides have had players drop from the Bundesliga, you know, Germans' top flights
02:11to the third tier of English football.
02:13That shows they believe in a project.
02:15And Wrexham's coverage, Wrexham's incredible rise, you know, back-to-back-to-back promotions
02:21now.
02:22Three on the bounce and Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have had a massive impact there
02:26as well.
02:26So, you know, both going down the American route with the American sort of owners, this
02:31would be an incredible move for Gareth Bale and that sort of consortium coming through.
02:37Obviously rejected by Vincent Tan, you know, he rightly said he's invested over £200 million
02:43in the club and he values it closer to sort of £50-60 million pre-relegation, you know,
02:50maybe £40 million now.
02:51But, you know, Bale sort of goes in with that £40 million offer and hopes.
02:55But then in terms of what it does for Cardiff City, I mean, in today's day and age, you need
03:00money to compete.
03:01That's been shown with the likes of Birmingham City, you know, even higher than that.
03:06You can go and see Manchester City, you know, where they've come over the last sort of almost
03:1120 years since their takeover.
03:13They've been unbelievable.
03:14And, you know, the league titles, it delivers and it gets you there.
03:18You know, you go to the Premier League, you see Wolves, you see Newcastle.
03:23They've all had heavy investment to get them there, Aston Villa.
03:26The list goes on and I feel that's the sort of modern era that we are dealing with.
03:32For Cardiff City, it would be absolutely massive.
03:34I think the time is now, if ever, to get a takeover going.
03:38You know, as Birmingham City did, they did it just before their relegation.
03:41But, you know, to do it in a season, in a summer window where you are going into League
03:46one and you want to come straight back up, you know, first time of asking, you've got
03:50a new manager, you've got an ambitious squad, you've got some fantastic young talent, young
03:54Welsh talent in there as well.
03:56And they want to get back to the global stage.
03:58They want to make sure Cardiff City have representatives, you know, in Wales shirts as well.
04:03The international breaks with Craig Bellamy, a really exciting project going on there.
04:07And for Gareth Bale, local legend, you know, probably Wales' best ever player, one of Britain's
04:14best ever football players, wants them back to the Premier League as well.
04:18So for me, it's a no-brainer for Vincent Tan to accept the backing, whether he does or
04:23not, it is yet to be confirmed.
04:25But really exciting times and for, you know, just for them to be linked with Gareth Bale
04:30and a consortium who are, you know, happy to buy Cardiff is really positive news.
04:37And hopefully more can emerge, you know, in terms of Cardiff City and where they want to
04:42be in the future.
04:44Back to so on.
04:47I just haven't yet.
04:48It's probably not.
04:49So my team or my team or iPad are doing their best.
