00:00Hey everyone! Welcome to World Chimpanzee Day 2025. Every year on July 14th, I get to join
00:07animal lovers around the globe in honoring our closest living relatives in the animal kingdom,
00:12the incredible chimpanzees. Now why July 14th? This day marks the anniversary of Dr. Jane Goodall's
00:19arrival at Gombe National Park in Tanzania, way back in 1960. It was there that she began her
00:25groundbreaking research on wild chimpanzees, changing the way we see these amazing animals
00:30forever. Here's something that blows my mind. Chimpanzees share over 98% of their DNA with us.
00:37That's right, they're our closest genetic relatives. But let's clear up a common mix-up. Chimpanzees are
00:43not monkeys. They're great apes just like gorillas and orangutans. And you can tell because they don't
00:48have tails. Thanks to Dr. Goodall, we now know chimpanzees are toolmakers, problem solvers,
00:54and master communicators. They build complex social structures, look out for each other and
00:59even show empathy and altruism. In fact, they form friendships that can last a lifetime.
01:05The Gombe Stream Research Center in Tanzania is still going strong. It's the world's longest
01:10running wild chimpanzee study. And in places like the Chimpunga Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Center,
01:16rescued chimps get a second chance at life. But it's not all good news. Chimpanzees are endangered,
01:22and their numbers are dropping fast across Africa. Habitat loss, poaching, and disease are
01:27major threats. If we don't act now, we could lose our closest animal relatives forever.
01:33That's why World Chimpanzee Day matters so much. It's a chance to raise awareness,
01:38celebrate these remarkable beings, and support life-saving conservation.
01:42Organizations like the Jane Goodall Institute, the North American Primate Sanctuary Alliance,
01:46Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue and Protection, and Lincoln Park Zoo are leading the charge.
01:51Sanctuaries like Chimpunga offer rescued chimpanzees a safe home and the care they need.
01:56So how can you help? Support these organizations, every donation makes a difference.
02:01If you can, volunteer your time. Share cool chimpanzee facts or videos on social media with
02:07hashtags like hashworldchimpanzee day and hashchimpanzee conservation. Create polls or quizzes
02:12to get your friends involved. And don't forget to highlight the conservation heroes out there
02:17making a real difference. Chimpanzees aren't just fascinating, they play a critical role in their
02:22ecosystems, spreading seeds and helping forests thrive. Protecting their habitats doesn't just
02:28save chimps, it helps preserve biodiversity and fight climate change. World Chimpanzee Day is a
02:34celebration, not just of the chimps, but of everyone working tirelessly to protect them.
02:40Join global events, campaigns, or educational programs. Watch videos of chimps in the wild or at
02:45sanctuaries and let their personalities amaze you. Every action counts. Even small steps can help
02:52ensure a future where chimpanzees thrive, wild and free. Thank you for celebrating World Chimpanzee Day
02:592025 with me. Together, we can make a real difference for these intelligent, social, and utterly unique
03:06animals. Visit worldchimpanzeeday.org to learn more, get involved, and hear Dr. Jane Goodall's special
03:13message. Follow conservation heroes on social media for inspiration and updates. Remember chimpanzees
03:19are not monkeys, they're great apes and they need our respect and protection. Support research, education,
03:26and advocacy for their welfare worldwide. Let's work together to protect, respect, and cherish
03:31chimpanzees, and all primates. Happy World Chimpanzee Day 2025. Thank you for joining this global movement
03:39for conservation and hope.
