Dr. Michael Kruppa, head of headlight development at Audi presents the highlights of the digital light technology of the new Audi Q3 SUV.

00:00Light is necessary to see and to be seen.

00:04Our light technology at Audi makes Vorsprung of Technik visible.

00:08Digital light contributes to Vorsprung in different ways.

00:12On the one hand side adding personalization to our lighting,

00:16and on the other side adding safety on the road due to adaptive light protection.

00:24For the first time the Audi compact glass is equipped with a new technology

00:28in the front lighting, the digital matrix LED headlamp system.

00:32We're using the new generation of micro LEDs to really enable

00:36intelligent lighting projections on the road. The reason for that is

00:40a good assistance at night.

00:44So one of the functions we now have in our all-new Audi Q3

00:48is the so-called orientation lighting. Orientation lighting is giving you

00:52an indication where are you driving on the road. So it's always a feedback

00:56so that you can see especially in tricky situations like a construction site

01:00where you are, how much space you have left and right to the car

01:04and these functions can be experienced on every country road.

01:08The advanced traffic information is another new function

01:12we have inside the Audi Q3.

01:14So the idea is on an icy road to display a symbol on the road

01:18which you know from the MMI already, but keeping the information

01:22in the field of view while driving.

01:26Besides exterior lighting, there is more to explore inside.

01:32Even during twilight at night time, we at Audi strive to highlight

01:36the beautiful interior of our cars by adding ambient lighting.

01:40Let's start close to the line of sight underneath our display.

01:44Here we added an ambient light to create a sense of airiness and spaciousness

01:50by adding this floating effect underneath the display.

01:52Right underneath we have a sharp and precise marker light stretching across

01:58the whole width of the dashboard with a transition into the doors

02:02by adding the ambient lighting here and a surface light in the door itself.

02:06Let me explain the surface light a little bit more in detail

02:10by looking at this prototype.

02:12By adding a laser structure or laser pattern to the top of the material

02:16we are able to extract light and to create this cocooning effect in the whole interior.

02:21We are proud to offer several possibilities to personalize your exterior lighting.

02:27Using our digital daytime running light you can choose in the MMI up to four different signatures.

02:34In addition to that you get three light projections getting in and out of your car.

02:39Also in the rear we have a highlight.

02:42The first generation of digital OLED.

02:45Together with our light strip and illuminated Audi rings

02:48this is enriching the appearance at night.

02:51We at Audi always combine emotional design and intelligent technology.
