00:00But as many countries race to make these trade deals with the U.S., President Trump announced new tariffs on minor trading partners yesterday.

00:09But what I thought was interesting is threatening Brazil with the 50 percent tariff.

00:16What more do we know about this?

00:19Yeah, that's a crazy one. There's been a lot of it, a lot of chatter about that today.

00:23For one thing, Brazil has a bilateral trade deficit with the U.S., right?

00:28Donald Trump talks so much about these companies, these countries that run that America has a deficit with, like the EU, like China.

00:36And he thinks that that is a sign of American economic weakness.

00:40So most of the countries that have been in his sights have shipped more goods to the U.S. than the U.S. ships to ships to them.

00:48Not the case in Brazil. And this is really tied to political things.

00:53And this is what makes it so interesting.

00:55Donald Trump is very, very, he's aghast at the fact that Jair Bolsonaro, the ex-Brazilian president, is on trial for Q charges.

01:03He really protested his loss in the last presidential election.

01:09Sounded a bit familiar there.

01:10And so it looks like this is a political rather than an economic aspect to these announced tariffs on Brazil.

01:20This one could come back to bite Donald Trump.

01:23You know, one of the Brazil sends auto parts to the U.S.

01:27It also sends a whole lot of coffee.

01:29Coffee is something that Americans use.

01:32It's a commodity.

01:33Americans know what the price of it is.
