JB man escapes jail over child-related offences

An unemployed man pleaded guilty at the Sessions Court in Johor Baru on Friday (July 11) to five charges of possessing child sexual abuse images and videos.  The accused, Leang Win Son, 32, paid the total fine of RM23,500, thereby avoiding a combined 12-year prison sentence. 00:14had previously been charged with 15 offenses, including abduction, wrongful confinement and

00:20sexual assault involving a six-year-old girl. The first charge stated that on July 23 last year

00:26at a hotel room in Batangkali, Selangor, police found 30 images of child sexual abuse on a mobile

00:32phone in his possession. The second charge stated that on July 24, at his home in Taman Kota Kulai,

00:40Kulai Johor, police found 37 images and 40 videos of child sexual abuse on a hard drive.

00:46The third charge stated that at the same time and location, police found 98 child abuse images

00:52and videos on an SSD. The fourth charge stated that he possessed nine child abuse images

00:57stored on another SSD. The fifth charge stated that police found four child abuse images on

01:03another phone in his possession. The judge sentenced Liang to an 8,000 ringgit fine for each of the

01:09second and third charges, with three years jail each, if unpaid, a 2,500 ringgit fine for each

01:16of the first, fourth and fifth charges, with two years jail each, if unpaid. The accused paid all

01:23fines, thereby avoiding a total of 12 years in prison. Earlier reports revealed that on July 20 last

01:30year, around 8.30 p.m., a six-year-old girl went missing during a Bon Odori festival event at Echo

01:37Galleria, Echo Botani, in Iskandar Putri, Johor. On July 23, police rescued the girl from a budget hotel

01:45in Selangor and arrested Leong, then age 31, for abducting the child.
