During remarks on the Senate floor Thursday, Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-TN) spoke about the nomination of Whitney Hermandorfer to serve as United States Circuit Judge for the Sixth Circuit.
Transcript
00:01Chair, I recognize the senator from Tennessee.
00:03I ask unanimous consent to take us out of quorum call.
00:06Without objection.
00:07Thank you, Mr. President.
00:09Mr. President, I'm here today to urge my colleagues to support the confirmation of Whitney Hermendorfer.
00:15Whitney Hermendorfer is President Trump's nominee to be the judge of the Sixth Circuit.
00:21It's a defining moment for the second Trump administration
00:24because Whitney is the first judicial nominee to be brought forward to serve at the circuit court level.
00:31She's the first Trump nominee to come before the United States Senate,
00:36and she is a perfect candidate to be that first nominee.
00:40She's going to set the benchmark for excellence for all future judicial nominees.
00:46Indeed, I don't think President Trump could have made a better choice.
00:50Ms. Hermendorfer is eminently qualified.
00:52She graduated first in her law school class, then she clerked on the District Court for D.C.,
00:57the D.C. Circuit, and not once but twice at the Supreme Court of the United States.
01:03Whitney served as the lead strategist and advocate for our home state of Tennessee,
01:08representing the Volunteer State in its most complex and important cases.
01:12And, unsurprisingly to everybody that knew her and knows her, she did an exceptional job.
01:19Ms. Hermendorfer has the experience and the demeanor that our very best judges possess,
01:24along with the genuine humility, kindness, and a sense of optimism that I think everybody will appreciate.
01:32Most importantly, Ms. Hermendorfer will faithfully discharge the solemn duties of a judge.
01:37She'll interpret the Constitution according to its original meaning.
01:42She'll administer justice without fear, without favor.
01:47She'll rule without preference for the poor or the rich, the weak or the powerful.
01:53She'll protect the precious rights recognized in the Constitution and safeguard the delicate separation of powers that our founders established.
02:02Whitney Hermendorfer is an outstanding nominee.
02:05Any delay in confirming her deprives our courts of the very best and the very brightest that our nation can offer.
02:11So I'm here today to urge my colleagues to support her nomination on today's procedural vote,
02:16and I'm going to encourage this body to quickly proceed to her nomination in confirmation.
02:21...
