00:00Craig Hendrickson, since he was 25th in the league in total defense and scoring defense last season,
00:04Hendrickson holding out their leading tackler, Jermaine Pratt, released as well.
00:09Hendrickson and the Bengals are talking about a potential contract,
00:13but they're reportedly no closer to coming to an agreement.
00:18Bengals vets report to training camp a week from next Tuesday.
00:22Very likely Hendrickson will not be there unless they get a deal done.
00:26So we're still wondering if Hendrickson could be traded, which leads us to a segment we're calling Overreaction or Reality.
00:34Danny Connell is back. Overreaction or Reality, Danny? The Bengals will have to trade Trey.
00:41I think that is an overreaction. I think they get a deal done because of what he means to that defense.
00:46It was the one bright spot on a defense which was otherwise not very good.
00:50And I know they want to keep Joe Burrow happy, and that was the reason they prioritized Jamar Chase and T. Higgins
00:54getting their deals done this season, and those players are happy.
00:57But I don't know about you, Chris. I watched the Netflix quarterback series with Joe Burrow,
01:01and he is not a happy camper. He had a phenomenal season, but he wants to win.
01:05And I'm sure he's in there trying as much as he can do to campaign to say,
01:09hey, we need one of our best defensive players on this roster taken care of
01:14and keep him happy just as much as we need our key offensive figures happy as well.
01:18I think they get it done. I think this could get contentious.
01:21I don't think he's there at the start of training camp.
01:23I think it could carry on into camp and maybe get close to regular season,
01:26but it's only July 9th. A lot of this is posturing, trying to take a stance and play hard ball.
01:31But ultimately, I think the Cincinnati Bengals will realize what they have on that defensive side of the ball,
01:36and it's not easy to go out and find a replacement for that.
01:38So I think they'll get it done.
01:39He's not the only great pass rusher that's looking for a new deal.
01:42Micah Parsons heading into the final year of his deal with the Cowboys.
01:46Overreaction or reality? Micah Parsons won't suit up for the Cowboys week one.
01:51I think that's an overreaction. I think Micah Parsons wants to play.
01:54And I think at some point when it gets time, the rubber hits the road,
01:57I think you'll see both sides come to their senses and you'll say,
02:00all right, we want to make sure that this one, and like Trey Henderson,
02:04this is a player that's one of the best young defensive players on the league.
02:07And Micah Parsons made it clear he wants to be a Cowboy.
02:10I mean, shoot, he even put it out there that maybe he possibly would take less
02:13if there was that trade potential for a Miles Garrett and a player like that.
02:16While that didn't come to fruition, I love the mindset of Micah Parsons.
02:20I think he's a player who wouldn't hold out through a game if he had to.
02:23If it takes away from his playing time, I think that's where he draws the line
02:27and goes to his team and says, you know what, I want to get this deal done.
02:30I don't care what happens. I want to be on the field with my teammates.
02:33And I also think Jerry Jones in the front office there with Dallas,
02:36they realize the start to the season is so integral.
02:38They want to get off on the right foot. They've got a healthy Dak Prescott now.
02:41What can be at stake? You don't want to be without your best player early.
02:44So ultimately, I think he's on the field week one.
02:46Being left behind in that division, they just watched half of their division
02:50go where they haven't gone in 30 years to the NFC Championship game
02:53with the Eagles facing the Commanders.
02:55But Washington has an issue on their own in Terry McLaurin,
02:59who wants to be paid like the all-pro he has been.
03:03And he might be holding out for more money as well.
03:07So overreaction or reality, McLaurin will get what he wants,
03:10which is $32-plus million and be a top-five paid wide receiver this season.
03:16I do. I think this is a reality.
03:18I think Terry McLaurin is one of the most underrated receivers in the entire league.
03:22And it was good to see him last year finally paired with Jaden Daniels.
03:25And you saw him once again because he's been one of the more consistent producers
03:28at that position.
03:30I don't think he's in the discussion for a top-three wide receiver in the league,
03:35so I don't think he breaks the bank and, like, sets a new record.
03:38But that $32 million mark is around where I see him.
03:40And if you see some of those other players, A.J. Brown right there,
03:43Amon Ross St. Brown, Brandon Iyuk.
03:45Like, Tyree Kill, I think, is a better wide receiver.
03:47But his contract was redone a couple years ago.
03:49A lot of times the latest guy kind of sets the tempo and sets the tone
03:53and gets into that top-five market.
03:55So I do think Washington, they have already made it clear they're sparing no expense.
03:59They've been the trade market.
04:00They've been active, trying to help Jaden Daniels.
04:02They want to make sure Terry McLaurin is there.
04:04I think he's got some pretty good leverage.
04:05So I think he sneaks into that top-five highest-paid wide receiver range.
04:09Reports, though, that McLaurin is unhappy right now with the way things are moving
04:13or maybe not moving right now in the direction that he wants.
04:17Let's get to some quarterback battles now, beginning in Indianapolis.
04:20Overreaction or reality?
04:22Daniel Jones will beat out Anthony Richardson for the starting job.
04:26That is a reality to me.
04:28I am not sold on Anthony Richardson.
04:30I thought this was a great spot for Daniel Jones to go,
04:33especially if he didn't want to just all of a sudden post-New York Giants career
04:36be resigned to just being a backup.
04:39I think he wants to be a starter, and I think he'll be more prepared and ready to go
04:44and be a more consistent player that you can rely on
04:47that the Colts haven't been able to trust Anthony Richardson.
04:50I thought this was one of the biggest risk picks coming out of that draft class,
04:54and it hasn't paid dividends yet.
04:56The accuracy concerns that he had coming to college haven't been a lead,
05:00and even more worrisome, he has not been able to stay healthy.
05:03Daniel Jones, I think it's been great for him to kind of have a little respite.
05:06Now that he's found a new place, I think Shane Steichen will find a way to use him,
05:10and I think the consistency that he brings to the table,
05:12and he's a really good quarterback.
05:14I know he was thrown and tossed aside by the New York Giants.
05:17His offensive line was mired with injuries.
05:20Was Saquon healthy half the time?
05:22It seemed like he didn't get great situations.
05:24It's a really tough market to play in.
05:25I think Indianapolis will ride with Daniel Jones come week one.
05:29Speaking of tossed aside, Kenny Pickett was tossed aside by the Pittsburgh Steelers
05:34who took him in the first round.
05:35He was the number one quarterback drafted just a few years ago.
05:39Overreaction or reality?
05:41Kenny Pickett is going to beat out the former Super Bowl MVP
05:44and the two rookies on that team for the starting job.
05:47I think that's an overreaction that he starts for them week one.
05:51I think this is Joe Flacco's job.
05:52I don't think he'll have a problem beating out Shador Sanders and Dylan Gabriel,
05:56so I think he'll be resigned to a backup role.
05:58I wouldn't be surprised if you see him play at some point,
06:01but Kevin Stefanski knows and trusts Joe Flacco,
06:03and at 40 years old, I know he seems ancient,
06:05but he's still going to deliver and trust somebody you can trust with the offense.
06:09We so many times think that players hop around
06:12and it's easy to pick up an NFL offense.
06:14It is not.
06:15You have to learn the new language, the new lingo,
06:18and the ability to make checks at the line of scrimmage.
06:20It's so intricate, the deals and the systems that you're running.
06:24Joe Flacco knows better how to handle it.
06:27I think Kevin Stefanski, once the rubber hits the road and it's time to go,
06:30I think he'll go with the guy that he trusts the most.
06:32Again, I think it'll be a pretty short leash.
06:34I think they'll see if he can kind of guide them,
06:36be more of that game manager type.
06:38But I keep reading about Kenny Pickett,
06:40how he's all of a sudden found revival from the year he spent in Philly.
06:42He didn't play that much.
06:43It's not like he was all of a sudden out there lighting it up.
06:46He was in a backup role,
06:47and I'm happy for him that he's found another opportunity.
06:49And I do think maybe he sees the field at some point,
06:52but I'm not sold that he's going to be the guy that Kevin Stefanski trusts week one
06:56to say, all right, you're our guy.
06:57You're the one we're going to trust to lead us to the playoffs.
06:59Have one more overreaction or reality with Danny Connell.
07:03It's about Tyreek Hill.
07:05Overreaction or reality.
07:06Tyreek Hill won't be a dolphin come week one.
07:09That's an overreaction.
07:10I know there's been a lot of speculation about Tyreek Hill.
07:12Even he has had some comments that have kind of been contradictory over the past offseason.
07:17How happy is he?
07:19I think he likes playing in South Florida.
07:21I know there's some question marks about his belief in Tua.
07:23I still think that's a quarterback that can get him the ball when he's healthy.
07:26He plays in a system that's very creative,
07:28that they're going to be able to use him in different ways.
07:31I think he ultimately is on the Miami Dolphins come week one.
07:35I don't think he's going to get moved,
07:36and I think he's going to, again, put up pretty good numbers.
07:38We'll continue the Miami Dolphins talk on the other side of this quick timeout.
07:42The culture there is being questioned and has been questioned several times.
07:46Danny Cannell, as we kick off conference media days around the country,
07:50we've got the Big Ten in a couple of weeks.
07:51You're going to be out there.
07:53We've got the SEC next week.
07:54Right now it's the Big 12 taking center stage,
07:57and Coach Prime taking center stage today.
08:00Does it feel like, Danny, that they're a little bit under the radar here
08:04as we go into this season compared to Coach Prime's first two years there?
08:07Without question.
08:08One of the reasons is Shadur is not one of the quarterbacks.
08:10Exactly, and no Travis Hunter, one of the best players in the country,
08:13no longer there either.
08:14Also, there's been some concerns about Coach Prime's health.
08:17He hasn't been in Boulder.
08:18He's been taking care of some things.
08:19So they've been very much under the radar, quiet,
08:22and I think it's by design as well because I don't know what to expect from this team.
08:26So I don't think you're going to hear Coach Prime with as many bold proclamations
08:29as he's had the last couple of years.
08:30Well, he was asked about his health today,
08:31and he said he was not there to talk about it,
08:34that he wanted to talk about his team.
08:35And we'll discuss the quarterback battle in just a little bit.
08:38But first, here's Coach Prime in Frisco, Texas,
08:41where the Cowboys practice saying that he wants to end up down the road
08:45at Jerry World for the Big 12 championship game this year,
08:47where they just lost out on that a season ago in a four-way tie for first.
08:52We want to win.
08:54We want to win at all costs.
08:55We want to be in that championship game, not here at the start,
08:59but over in that other big house that Jerry's built.
09:02So that's what we want to do, and that's what we're gearing up for.
09:06That's all we're playing for.
09:08We play to win.
09:09We don't just play to compete.
09:11And if he truly believes that and his team truly believes that,
09:15they might be the only ones because they don't have a preseason poll in the Big 12 anymore,
09:19but if they did, it would be surprising to see Colorado picked
09:23even in the top 10 among the 16 teams, Danny.
09:26No doubt.
09:26They've lost so much talent off this team, not only Shador Sanders and Travis Hunter,
09:30but a wealth of production on the offensive side of the ball
09:33at the wide receiver position and the running back position.
09:36So there is a large amount of questions around this Colorado squad,
09:40and it's also the first time that Deion Sanders, Coach Prime,
09:43has been without his son Shador.
09:45He coached him at Pee Wee Football.
09:47He coached him in high school.
09:48Then when he was in college at Jackson State, coached him there,
09:51and then had him when he was at Colorado.
09:52So there's always been that stability of,
09:54you know exactly what you're going to get in the quarterback,
09:56and you've got great play from Shador Sanders.
09:58That has been a luxury for Coach Prime that all of a sudden he's going to be without,
10:02and there's massive question marks at the quarterback position,
10:04the most important position on the field,
10:06and they had one of the best passing offenses in the country.
10:10Now there's a big question mark there.
10:11I think that's going to be the biggest hurdle that Coach Prime has to overcome.
10:14Yeah.
10:14Will it be the 17-year-old, or will it be the veteran?
10:18Caden Salter from Liberty in his final year of eligibility.
10:22They went in the transfer portal.
10:23They paid for him, but they also have Lewis,
10:26who is a close to a five-star, borderline four-five-star quarterback,
10:30but he's only 17 years old.
10:32This is what Coach Prime said about the quarterback situation today.
10:36We brought both of them because I don't know which one is going to start.
10:39My question to you is,
10:40would you be comfortable with a situation where both guys play?
10:43Yeah.
10:44As long as they're doing their jobs and we're winning,
10:47we definitely want to continue to develop Juju,
10:51but Caden is unbelievable.
10:52Caden is off the chain.
10:53He's been there, done that.
10:54He can get the job done.
10:55I wouldn't have brought him here if I didn't trust him,
10:57but Juju is coming on around the mountain when he comes,
11:01and I love him.
11:02I love what he brings to the table.
11:04I don't know how it's going to play out as long as it plays out.
11:07We can't lose either way.
11:11Juju, the nickname for Julian Lewis,
11:15has a little bit of Shador in him.
11:17Oh, boy.
11:18Oh, boy.
11:19Just why?
11:20Why do you want to set that standard for yourself?
11:23Like, be your own person.
11:24Like, he's taken the celebration.
11:26I don't even know.
11:27Is there a nickname for, like, what Shador did with the watch?
11:29Like, the watch thing?
11:30I don't know what it's called.
11:31It's just the watch thing.
11:31Yeah, it's just the watch thing.
11:32Be your own guy.
11:34And I think he's incredibly talented,
11:35but I think ultimately when it comes down to,
11:37I think you'll see both quarterbacks on the field for Colorado this season.
11:41Maybe in week one at the same time.
11:43You might see them split series.
11:44And I think it's a testament to Coach Prime that he brought both of them.
11:47He said, I don't know who's going to start.
11:48If there's that much indecision, a lot of times if there's no differential in practice
11:53when you would ideally hope to see someone develop as a clear-cut starter,
11:57you're going to roll with them in the regular season to see who performs best
12:00under the bright lights and who performs best in the system that you want to run.
12:05There is one thing I know for sure about Colorado.
12:07This offense is going to look completely different.
12:09They were so pass-heavy last year.
12:11They had the worst rushing offense in the entire landscape of college football.
12:16That is going to change.
12:16I actually talked to Marshall Falk, who's their new runnings back coach there,
12:20and I was talking to him about the offense, who's going to play quarterback,
12:23and he's like, I'm not sure, but I guarantee you one thing.
12:25We are going to be committed to the run game.
12:27And Coach Prime is right.
12:28Caden Salter is a guy at the quarterback position.
12:31Had a little bit of a step back last year at Liberty,
12:34but two years ago led him to an undefeated season, put up big numbers,
12:38and he's a dynamic runner.
12:39So I could see him adding the running element to that offense
12:42and then sprinkling in some Julian Lewis to kind of see what he's capable of,
12:47let him be that kind of passing quarterback.
12:49But they're going to go with two guys until they figure out the one.
12:52I just think it's so interesting, the difference.
12:55And Coach Prime openly admitting, I don't know who my guy is.
12:58Do you remember when he introduced himself to the Colorado Boosters and his team?
13:02And he said, I got my quarterback with me.
13:04Shador Sanders had not taken a snap at the FBS level.
13:06He had only played at the FCS, unequivocally their starter.
13:09This is yet another dynamic that Coach Prime will have to navigate
13:13in this uncharted waters post-Shador Sanders, post-coaching his son.
13:17How do you handle that quarterback room?
13:19Because it's not always easy.
13:20You can see factions start to form in the locker room,
13:23who the team thinks is better.
13:25Today's landscape, you've got to keep players happy or else they'll transfer.
13:28It's going to be really interesting to see how he handles this quarterback room.
13:31Cover up a lot of issues with a quarterback as good as Shador Sanders was.
13:35And the top talent in all of college football, Travis Hunter,
13:39playing every snap on both sides of the ball, some special teams as well.
13:44But now they're both gone.
13:45What else outside the quarterback position do you have questions about?
13:49Everything.
13:49I mean, this was not a great defense last year.
13:51I mean, they've got to show up and go ready to play.
13:53It was kind of an embarrassing performance that they had about BYU.
13:56But the one thing they have majored in is the transfer portal.
14:00And they have not been shy about it.
14:01But the thing that concerns me, and you've seen this at a bunch of different schools,
14:05including at Florida State, my alma mater,
14:07when you major in the transfer portal, it just can be incredibly volatile.
14:11Coach Prime's first year at Colorado kind of fell off the rails.
14:14It didn't quite work.
14:15Last year, it worked great.
14:16And then you're kind of back to the drawing board with an entire new roster
14:19and a lot of turnover out there.
14:21So once again, they have one of the better portal classes in the entire country.
14:25They've kind of set recruiting aside apart from some high-profile recruits like Julian Lewis.
14:31Jordan Seaton was a recruit who's one of their bigger, better offensive linemen.
14:34That's a good thing for them.
14:35I think the offensive line will be better.
14:37But there's still way too many concerns across that roster for me to say
14:40they belong in the top tier of the Big 12
14:43because there are some teams returning a lot of talent, returning quarterback talent.
14:47And, you know, they're coming off better seasons last year.
14:49Colorado with a win total of six and a half.
14:51They start out the season at home as an underdog against Georgia Tech.
14:55What do you see when you look at the schedule?
14:57I think the schedule does not do Colorado any favors.
15:00And what I think is going to be a rebuild year for the Buffs, it's just going to be tough.
15:04I do think they lose that game against Georgia Tech.
15:07Haynes King comes to town.
15:08Brent Key, the coach of Georgia Tech, you can talk about running the football.
15:11He is going to try to impose their will on Colorado.
15:15And I do think he has the success with that.
15:17But you look at the schedule.
15:18They play Iowa State, Utah, Arizona State, Kansas State.
15:22Four of the top teams in the Big 12 as far as predicted by the oddsmakers.
15:26The toughest teams that are out there.
15:28They face them all.
15:29I don't think it's going to be easy.
15:30Not to mention TCU, another one that's going to be a tougher road matchup for them.
15:34I think it's a gauntlet of a schedule within that Big 12.
15:37You have them going 5-7 this season.
15:41And all the way down at 13th in the Big 12.
15:45If that happens, what's the future look like for Deion there?
15:49So, like I said, I think Coach Prime, I think he's been a little bit quieter.
15:52He hasn't been quite as braggadocious this offseason.
15:55I think he realizes that.
15:56And I think that would be completely normal.
15:58I don't think it would be a cause for concern.
16:00There's a lot of youth, a lot of new players.
16:02Until I feel confident with the quarterback position and the stability there,
16:05it's hard for me to say, yep, this team is just going to be right back towards the top tier of the conference.
16:09So, I think it'll be normal.
16:11I'll take Coach Prime at his word when he says, I'm here for the long haul.
16:14I think he likes it there in Boulder.
16:16He's got the total support of the fan base and the administration, the athletic director, everybody else.
16:21And I think you look at this and say, this is a rebuild year.
