Why Do We Exist ?
Transcript
00:00On the one hand, the existentialist perspective frees us from the constraints of a fixed destiny.
00:06We are not bound by any divine or cosmic purpose.
00:09We are free to shape our own lives, to carve out our own paths, and to define our own meaning.
00:16In this way, existence becomes an open canvas upon which we can paint our lives according to our own choices, values, and desires.
00:24On the other hand, the absence of inherent meaning can lead to a sense of existential despair.
00:31If there is no ultimate purpose to life, why bother?
00:35Why struggle? Why love? Why suffer?
00:39Camus explored this dilemma in his famous work The Myth of Sisyphus, where he compares human existence to the plight of Sisyphus,
00:46a figure from Greek mythology condemned to push a boulder up a hill, only to watch it roll back down, repeating this futile task for eternity.
