No progress was made in a recent call with Russia to end the war in Ukraine, says U.S. President Donald Trump. He adds that he plans to speak with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky later on Friday.
00:00U.S. President Donald Trump says no progress was made in his phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday amid stalled efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
00:10He adds that he plans next to speak to Ukrainian President for the Volodymyr Zelensky later today.
00:17For Russia and Ukraine, are you still speaking, are you speaking to Zelensky tomorrow?
00:22I'm speaking to President Zelensky tomorrow, early in the morning, and I'm very disappointed with the conversation I had today with President Putin because I don't think he's there.
00:35I don't think he's there. And I'm very disappointed.
00:39Well, I'm just saying I don't think he's looking to stop. And that's too bad.
00:45The call, which the Kremlin says lasted over an hour, did not include discussion on the U.S. decision to pause weapons shipments to Ukraine, a move announced just two days earlier.
00:56Trump has denied completely pausing the flow of weapons, but blamed his predecessor, Joe Biden, for depleting U.S. defense stockpiles.
01:04He added that America must guarantee its own military readiness.
01:08Just hours after the call, a Russian drone attack sparked a fire in an apartment building in the northern suburb city of Kiev, indicating little change in the trajectory of the conflict.
01:20The Kremlin also said Putin reiterated that Russia would not back down from its war objectives and that peace talks with Ukraine should remain a bilateral issue without U.S. involvement.
