Why the President Is Optimistic About Middle East Peace NowWhy the President Is Optimistic About Middle East Peace NowRussia-Ukraine war, peace, defensive weapons, killing, diplomacy
Transcript
The President, from the get-go, made it clear that his American first foreign policy objective when it comes to Russia-Ukraine war is to end the killing. And these are defensive weapons that Ukraine used for that very reason, to end the killing of Ukrainians by the Russians. How do you square the circle? MS. one doesn't need to complete the circle or square it. Our commitment hasn't changed. The nature of how we're able to make that commitment is going to be based on what is best for America first. It is the president's point of view, his guiding hand about the nature of what needs to occur. And it is certainly two nations at war. And America has made a huge difference in that regard. And the president still has worked to have people at the table that this can only be solved diplomatically. That, of course, is the State Department's wheelhouse. And that's what he wants.

00:00The Middle East changed dramatically. This is an opportunity in the midst of this new world
00:05to make a different kind of decision. He is optimistic. The president is very honest.
00:11Sometimes he's pessimistic, and he'll let people know. Again, he's a transparent man,
00:16which sometimes can be unusual. We're not used to always hearing it, but it's extremely helpful.
00:22So while I don't know the detail of what makes him optimistic, I know to trust him.
00:27I know to not second-guess him. I know to understand that he's in the midst of something
00:33that can change every day. But the changes that he's been able to bring about has been brought
00:37about by the power of his personality and leadership, along with the support of an American government
00:44that is in line and embraces what he wants to accomplish.
