00:00Moldova is pushing hard to join the EU.
00:12The government intends to take advantage of the bilateral summit with the European Union
00:16scheduled for this Friday, to emphasise its progress made in recent years on access requirements.
00:23Yet, some MEPs are hesitant to split the enlargement process and leave Ukraine lagging behind.
00:30Others, on the other hand, support a faster expansion of the bloc.
00:36Integrating the Republic of Moldova into the EU would be a smaller effort for the European
00:41Union than the integration of larger countries.
00:45So, Moldova is a smaller country, so with our support there, we can achieve a lot.
00:54Amounts which for the European Union are not necessarily very significant, matter a lot
00:59and they can make a big difference in the Republic of Moldova.
01:03The EU is to present the details of its three-year growth plan, worth 1.9 billion euros, as a support
01:10initiative for Moldova.
01:12The Eastern European country has been suffering systematic hybrid attacks by Russia, in a bid
01:17to derail its path to join the Union.
01:21Brussels is also aware that the Moldovan public opinion is divided between pro-Western orientations
01:27and Russian-orientated sympathies.
01:31The Russian-speaking minority and enterprises in the so-called Transnistrian region benefit
01:36from European integration.
01:38More than 70 percent of the exports from the so-called Transnistrian region go into the
01:44European market.
01:45So I think Russia will continue to try to destabilize, but I think people in Moldova will stay calm.
01:51Moldova applied for EU membership in March 2022 and became a candidate in June that year.
01:58Succession negotiations started in June 2024.
