Mauricio Rodriguez talks about the blockbuster trade from earlier this week between the Steelers and Dolphins, and how that now opens the door for the Dallas Cowboys to make a move for a great player that they need.

00:00So the latest blockbuster NFL trade actually gives the Cowboys the perfect excuse to go out there

00:06and pursue a menacing player they've wanted before.

00:13Hey what's up everyone, it's Mauricio Rodriguez here at ADZ Sports Dallas. We're still living the

00:18aftermath of the Jalen Ramsey trade between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Miami Dolphins that also

00:24involved Minka Fitzpatrick and involved tight end Jono Smith. Last time we talked about this trade

00:30we talked about how the Dolphins might be looking for a tight end and how the Cowboys could provide

00:35one in Lux Kunmaker. But now we're going to look at acquiring a tight end because if you look at the

00:41other side of the trade there's the Steelers with too many guys at the position and if the Cowboys

00:47want to upgrade they might need to look at Pittsburgh roster and that's because if you ask me you could

00:53upgrade the Cowboys tight end room by trading for none other than Darnell Washington. Now if you're

01:01a Cowboys fan you might remember this name because the Cowboys were into Darnell Washington during the

01:062023 NFL draft process. He was actually one of their top 30 pre-draft visits and come draft day he kind

01:14of slid right into the third round. He was available when the Cowboys actually picked Lux Kunmaker. Now

01:19Washington fell in the draft mostly because of medical concerns. He had that knee issue thing that

01:25was a red flag for many teams but hey Washington has actually not missed a single game in two seasons

01:32in the NFL. Now going out there and getting Washington is difficult to justify based on stats.

01:39Washington actually has fewer receiving yards than Kunmaker does through two seasons of their

01:45careers and Kunmaker has actually played fewer games too. However if you ask me that's more of a

01:50Steelers offense issue than anything else. I think Washington's tape is actually not bad at all

01:56specifically when you look at him as a run blocker and even pass protector. I'm telling you Washington

02:04is asked to block defensive ends and he does it well and when I think about what the Cowboys are going

02:10to do on offense in 2025. Man I get excited about thinking about Washington in that unit. That's

02:16because under head coach Brian Schottenheimer and offensive coordinator Clayton Adams. I expect this

02:22offense to be physical and to use a lot of 12 personnel, 13 personnel, multiple tight end sets to get the

02:29run game going and Washington just fits that very well and when he has been asked to catch the football

02:35he's actually delivered. He hasn't been bad at all in that space and I would argue he's been better

02:40than Schottenheimer too. So you might look at this as a little bit of a risky move because you already

02:45have Luke Schottenheimer and Brevin Spanford and you know the Cowboys like their guys but I would

02:50actually call up the Pittsburgh Steelers and ask what would it take to get Washington on their roster

02:55because as of right now Washington actually is the number three tight end at best on the Steelers

03:02roster and he doesn't play special teams for Pittsburgh. So could they part ways with him

03:07if they're offered a seventh rounder, a sixth rounder maybe? It's definitely worth the call if
