00:10The European Union aims to cut its carbon emissions by 90% by 2040 in its new proposal for climate law.
00:20The United States will halt some shipments of air defense missiles and other weapons promised Ukraine, the White House has said.
00:30American music muggle Didi has been acquitted of racketeering and sex trafficking of ex-partner Cassie but found guilty on two counts of prostitution.
00:40Europe continues to struggle against extreme temperatures spreading across the continent with authorities in several countries issuing new red alert warnings as emergency cases rise.
00:51Heat warnings were issued for parts of Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany and the UK with new highs expected on Wednesday.
00:59Before forecast rain is expected to bring respites to some areas.
01:04Two people died on Tuesday in a wildfire in Spain's Catalonia region.
01:09While in Madrid, many residents struggled to cope.
01:13In Rome, Italy's capital, people struggled to cope with the heat on Tuesday as temperatures rose above 40 degrees Celsius.
01:26Tourists dunked their hands, arms and faces into Rome's ubiquitous fountains and snacked on gelato as they tried to keep cool.
01:48Italy's health ministry put out red alert heat warnings for 17 cities, including Rome, Florence, Turin and Milan.
01:56The civil protection of Roma capital is in this moment.
01:59In France, soaring temperatures this week have exposed our Paris' storied architecture and dense urban canyons trap and radiant heat long after sunset, putting vulnerable populations at risk.
02:26Further vulnerability factors include an aging population and poorly insulated 19th century apartment blocks.
02:34Scientists have linked the rising frequency and intensity of extreme weather to climate change.
02:40They also warn that such extreme weather events are becoming increasingly common, in particular across Europe's southern regions.
02:48The European Commission has confirmed that the EU aims to cut its carbon emissions by 90% by 2040 in its new proposal for a climate law.
03:03It would allow member states and industries more flexibility to reach this target, including the release of new carbon credits.
03:11It's a huge transition. Let's just realize that. And therefore it is of the most importance to be non-dogmatic about how to reach success.
03:22A lot has been said about the flexibilities and let me dive into that right away.
03:28We will allow for first a limited amount of high quality carbon credits outside of the European Union.
03:39The Commission said the bloc is on its way to reach the planned 55% reduction for 2030.
03:47But environmentalists say the EU is not fully following the recommendations of its Scientific Advisory Board with the new proposals.
04:02The United States will halt some shipments of air defense missiles and other weapons promised to Ukraine, the White House has said.
04:11Certain munitions were previously promised to Ukraine under the Biden administration to support its defenses.
04:17However, the Trump administration revised some of its decision, citing a concern over its own stockpile levels.
04:24Washington has repeatedly pressed for allies to provide air defense systems to Ukraine and step in with more weapon supplies.
04:32German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has been weighing out the option to send Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine, but emphasized his country will not become a party to the war.
04:43The halt of some weapons could come as a serious blow to Kyiv as Russia has been recently stepping up its aerial strikes.
04:51Nearly 5,500 drones were launched against Ukraine in June alone, a significant increase compared to previous months.
05:00U.S. President Donald Trump's new immigration center in Florida could receive its first detainees on Wednesday.
05:11This follows Trump's Tuesday visit of the facility where he joked about detainees getting caught by snakes and alligators if they tried to escape.
05:21We're going to teach them how to run away from an alligator, OK, if they escape prison. How to run away. Don't run in a straight line. Run like this. And you know what? Your chances go up about 1%. OK? Not a good thing.
05:37Supporters have embraced the facility as an innovative and cost-effective way for the federal government to put in place Trump's mass deportation plan.
05:47Built in just eight days, the facility is nicknamed Alligator Alcatraz for its surrounding alligator-infested swamps.
05:56While Trump received his tour, protesters gathered outside and called it an inhumane makeshift prison camp.
06:04Meanwhile, Florida Republicans are fundraising with t-shirts and bear koozies with the detention center's name.
06:12To ease court backlogs, Republican Governor Ron DeSantis wants National Guard members deputized as immigration judges.
06:21The new center can currently house 3,000 people in dormitories, with a second one already underway, according to officials.
06:30Disgraced music mogul Sean Didi Combs has been found guilty of transportation to engage in prostitution, but acquitted of the most serious charges, racketeering and sex trafficking.
06:45The mixed result came on Wednesday, the third day of deliberations in the closely followed criminal trial that has been running in New York since May.
06:55The jury of 12 New Yorkers found the music mogul guilty on two counts of transportation for prostitution.
07:02That of his ex-partner, Cassandra Ventura, known as Cassie, and another woman referred to as Jane.
07:10Ventura, widely viewed as the prosecution's key witness, testified over four days during the trial's first week, while eight and a half months pregnant.
07:20Reacting to the verdict, Cassie's lawyer said they will continue to fight.
07:25The reaction is that we're pleased that he's finally been held responsible for two federal crimes, something that he's never faced in his life.
07:35He still faces substantial jail time.
07:38Of course, we would have liked to have seen a conviction on the sex crimes in RICO, but we understand beyond a reasonable doubt it's a high standard.
07:46Members of Didi's family showed signs of joy when exiting the courtroom following his acquittal under most serious charges.
07:54The criminal trial of Didi, once one of hip-hop's most celebrated figures, could have put him behind bars for life,
08:02but even now the 55-year-old could still face several years in prison, resulting from the verdict.
08:08An open love letter to the Italian culture, that's what the latest Dolce & Gabbana exhibition is all about.
08:18Fourteen rooms trace the brand's creative process through a series of themes that reflect the designer's love for their home country and its deep influence on their work.
08:28After Milan and Paris, from the heart to the hands, Dolce & Gabbana, featuring over 200 unique haute couture pieces, has landed in the Italian capital.
08:40Whether it's architecture, art, opera or theatre, exceptional craftsmanship remains the hallmark of the Dolce & Gabbana universe.
08:49Visitors seem to agree. The exhibition is about much more than fashion.
08:54I feel like I could learn, I learned a lot about like the different techniques, but also a lot about like the Italian culture and like the different, the different cities in Italy.
09:07My style does not identify in the one of Dolce & Gabbana, but it surprised me the emotions that I've tried today.
09:15Here we don't see the machine that works, but the hands that work and they see in a real way.
09:22In my opinion, it represents just Italy. When you look at them, you see Italy.
09:27I really liked Sicily, Sardegna, all Italy. I've seen even Napoli because I'm a Napoletan.
09:35So seeing Sophia Loren in that picture has been really beautiful.
09:39References to Sicily where Domenico Dolce was born and which has always been a source of inspiration for the brand can be found throughout the exhibition.
09:48For the Rome edition, three additional rooms have been added, including one entirely dedicated to cinema, a theme deeply tied to the Italian capital.
09:58Giorgio Orlandi for EUR News in Rome.
10:07Faced with pressure from US President Donald Trump, will the EU make concessions to the big tech to ease the trade war?
10:15A step back that would not be backed by citizens, according to a recent survey.
10:20In Spain, Germany and France, nearly two thirds of participants believe that the European Union should continue to enforce European laws on big tech companies, even if this damages relations with Trump.
10:34However, nearly half of those surveyed consider that tech giants like Meta or Google have more power than the European Union.
10:46The survey comes amid EU-US tensions, with Trump's tariff suspension set to end on July the 9th and trade talks ongoing.
10:56Essentially, there has been a big discussion on how the EU could retaliate against a scenario where Trump keeps a high level of tariffs on critical goods or generally in the EU.
11:08And one of the potential kind of like cards or assets that the EU has at its hands is digital services taxes because of the very high presence of big tech companies in the European market.
11:20On Donald Trump's radar are the Digital Markets Act, the Digital Services Act and the Artificial Intelligence Act.
11:27These texts aim to fight against unfair competition and disinformation or even protect data.
11:34The European Commission has repeatedly assured that its strategic plan to regulate and shape the EU's digital space is a non-negotiable.
