00:00Today, July 3, the Church honors an apostle with a fascinating destiny.
00:09Saint Thomas, often nicknamed the twin, or more sadly, Thomas the doubter.
00:18Thomas is famous for his reaction after Christ's resurrection.
00:24When the other apostles announced to him that they had seen Jesus alive,
00:30They refuse to believe them.
00:33They say, "If I don't see the mark of the nails in his hands, I won't believe."
00:41A week later, Christ appeared to him and invited him to touch his wounds.
00:48Thomas then bows and pronounces one of the most beautiful professions of faith in the New Testament.
00:55“My Lord and my God.”
01:00But this is only the beginning of his story, driven by immense zeal.
01:06Thomas went to evangelize as far as India, where he founded several Christian communities.
01:11These St. Thomas Christians still exist today in Kerala, in the south of the country.
01:23Despite the resistance, they preach with courage and faith.
01:30They are said to have died as martyrs at Milaport, pierced by a spear.
01:36Saint Thomas reminds us that doubt can become a path to faith.
01:46It also embodies the missionary impulse of the nascent Church.
01:52Today, let us pray with him.
01:56Lord, increase our faith.
02:01Happy birthday to all the Thomases.
