00:00What was the biggest storytelling challenge in returning to this world after such a long time?
00:05Just not to damage the original movie, to sort of respect it and look after it.
00:11What were the differences, I guess, between writing this script and the original 28 Day script?
00:16I think with 28 Days, it was the first film I'd ever worked on.
00:20So the whole thing was just a kind of exploration and super accelerated learning curve about film.
00:27And now it's 20-something years later and it's more familiar to me and I can be more relaxed, probably.
00:34Danny, how do you approach directing actors in a world that's so emotionally and physically intense?
00:39I make a fool of myself straight away and I do that absolutely deliberately.
00:44I show them that I'm prepared to do anything.
00:47I think actors, understandably, sometimes want to control a performance so it can't be seen as over the top.
00:53It can't be seen as over-rich.
00:54I want them to risk-take. I want them to push it as far as possible and then control it with the editing.
01:00How has your creative partnership and process changed from the first movie to this one?
01:05Is there any differences in how you work together now than you originally did?
01:09It was slightly different because I understood less about the parameters of writing, possibly, back then.
01:17But this time I felt I did understand it.
01:20So I think it was more straightforward.
01:21The key relationships, which are creative, I'll do anything for those relationships.
01:27So that is trust and acceptance.
01:30Even sometimes when you think, oh, no, he's wrong, but you think he's adamant, therefore trust it, go with it.
01:36I'll do anything for those key relationships, whereas other relationships are tactical.
01:40That's true.
01:40Let's go.
