The thundery rain seen through the afternoon will move off into the North Sea, with just a few showers hanging on in the north and east of Scotland. Much of the UK though will remain clear and dry overnight. Feeling much fresher overnight, especially in the south. Cloud will start to thicken in western parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland in the early hours bringing the onset of some showers here. This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the evening of 02/07/2025. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Clare Nasir.

00:00Hello there, welcome to your Wednesday evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:04The weather becomes far more mobile, particularly across the north of the country, through the next few days with showers and then some longer spells of rain.
00:12The heat has receded down towards the near-continent, fresher air moving in from the northwest.
00:17Even so, the ridge of high pressure which is influencing England and Wales through Thursday will keep things warm with some brighter weather, if not some sunshine.
00:26At the same time Thursday you'll see some showers, Friday across Scotland and Northern Ireland, some more persistent bursts of rain and also a stronger wind.
00:35So let's pick up on some detail through this evening.
00:38The thundery rain which we've seen through the day has now cleared towards the North Sea.
00:42Still some showers across Scotland but they will fade away.
00:45A clear night for many, a fresher night for the south before the cloud thickens across Northern Ireland and Western Scotland through the early hours of the morning.
00:54The onset of some showers here, again the winds will pick up towards the northwest.
01:00Here are your temperatures overnight, 11, 12 degrees Celsius.
01:03A bit cooler across central and eastern areas of Scotland, 8 or 9 Celsius to start the day on Thursday but there will be some sunshine.
01:10Sunshine extends down across England and Wales.
01:13Showers across the north and the west of Northern Ireland will extend further southeast.
01:17As we see more persistent showery rain push across central and western areas of Scotland towards the far north as well before moving across more southern and eastern areas.
01:27A few showers then moving in across the far north and northwest of England.
01:31One or two just clipping the Isle of Man, perhaps the far northwest of Wales later.
01:35Hanging on to brighter weather across the bulk of England and Wales and temperatures 23 to 26 Celsius, feeling pleasantly warm, if not very warm towards the southeast.
01:45But fresher towards the north as well as the west with that keen breeze and those showers continue through Thursday evening.
01:51They will tend to ease before this weather front here brings cloud and rain to the northwest highlands, extending towards Cape Ness as well as Orkney.
01:59Again a stronger wind into Friday morning.
02:02A drier start to the day for central and southern parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, England and Wales with some sunshine.
02:08The cloud will build though across the west as well as the north and that rain extends across the country, particularly Scotland through the day and then clips Northern Ireland.
02:17Highest rainfall totals will be across the northwest of Scotland where we will see the strongest winds.
02:22And it's feeling fresh here as well, 15 to 17 Celsius, 18 for Belfast.
02:26But look at this, temperatures on the up slightly, mid Wales 24, 27 for the home counties, eastern parts of England probably 24, even 25 degrees Celsius.
02:36Now this succession of weather fronts will continue on Friday and into Friday night, eventually extending southwards as this ridge recedes.
02:44And what that means, we'll see more clouds on Saturday, even with some showers likely.
02:49And that really sets the scene for Sunday as well.
02:53So again, the chance of some showers.
02:55Here's your outlook through Saturday if you're making any plans, you could see a lot of clouds, some showery rain in the mix, but temperatures on the warm side, 20 to 24 degrees Celsius.
03:06I'll see you later.
