Strong winds batter parts of Queensland's south-east corner

Severe winds have hit parts of south-east Queensland as part of the same system that has delivered a "bomb cyclone" and flash flooding to parts of New South Wales.

00:00Well it's certainly windy here to say the least and that's already impacting the temperature.

00:06This morning there was a feels like temperature of about three degrees so it was a chilly start

00:12for many across Brisbane but these winds are largely being driven by the interaction between

00:17a high pressure system that's spread across Queensland as well as that deepening low that's

00:22been battering the New South Wales coast. Now there's a severe weather warning that's in place

00:27for parts of southeast Queensland and that includes winds that could develop anywhere

00:32between 60 to 70 kilometres per hour impacting the scenic rim, granite belt as well as the main range

00:39and of course these winds not just here in Brisbane but also in Sydney are impacting several domestic

00:45flights. There's been about 15 cancellations this morning from Brisbane airport for flights going

00:51to and from Sydney. Several airlines have been impacted including Qantas, Virgin and Jetstar.

00:58Now these winds are not expected to ease until at least tomorrow when that system starts to make

01:03its way out to sea so the advice from authorities is to make sure you're keeping across if you're

01:08travelling to Sydney or New South Wales all the updates on websites for airlines and to check in

01:14with your airline as much as possible and of course make sure you're keeping up to date.
