00:00The 18th package of sanctions against Russia is still at a standstill.

00:08European leaders failed on Friday to unanimously adopt new sanctions against Moscow, following a veto by Slovakia.

00:15Prime Minister Robert Fico's opposition has nothing to do with the sanctions themselves.

00:20Instead, Bratislava is hoping to obtain concessions from Brussels on the Repower EU plan.

01:12and decline to pay for the volumes that were originally contract.

01:22Slovakia and Hungary are the two EU countries that continue to import Russian oil and gas via pipeline.

01:29However, ten European countries, including Belgium, France and Spain,

01:33still buy liquefied natural gas from Russia.

01:37Negotiations on the 18th sanctions package are still underway.

01:40A meeting between the European Commission and Slovakia is scheduled for this week

01:45to find the way out of the stalemate.
