00:00The European Commission has formally proposed new sanctions on Russian energy
00:06exports and financial institutions. The measures would curb operations of
00:12firms linked to the Nord Stream gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea, expand the
00:16blacklist of Russia's so-called shadow fleet, and target Kremlin-backed banks
00:21that facilitate international fund transfers.
00:25Our objective is very clear. We are reiterating the call for a full
00:31unconditional ceasefire of at least 30 days. This pause in hostilities could
00:38serve as a vital step towards reducing civilian suffering, allow space for
00:45meaningful talks for genuine peace. If approved by member states, it would mark
00:51the EU's 18th sanctions package against Moscow since the launch of Russia's
00:55full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The most notable feature of the package is a
01:00proposed reduction in the G7 imposed price gap on Russian oil, first introduced in
01:06December of 2022.
