Damon Hill excited to share his story in new documentary

The 1996 F1 champion bares all in 'Hill', a new documentary coming to Sky and streaming service NOW in July

00:00My whole life, people had been asking me if I was going to be a racing driver like my dad.

00:05Graham Hill, one of motor racing's greatest characters.

00:09And there I was, within a point of winning the world championship.

00:14I'm always shocked when people say it's brutally honest and I don't understand how

00:18you can tell a story without being honest about how you're affected by it. So I think that's the

00:24point of telling a story is, is to get across how it's been, how you've been affected by it or

00:31what motivated you or, you know, I think the only way you can do that is to, is to describe everything

00:37that you felt and experienced. It started the day my dad died. The crash wiped out the hill racing team.

00:46Damon was joking and mocking about but he was one of the saddest people I'd ever come across in my

00:51life. I think it's captured something of the the struggle to get to be a world champion and I

00:58think the the things that motivated me and I think the emotional parts of my life which are so important,

01:05my family and my wife Georgie and you know it's not just about wanting to win a motor race.

01:14Was I a racing driver just because my dad was one? I needed to let go of the past.

01:20Very few people ever get a chance to be in Formula One let alone win a championship so

01:26it's a very special thing and we're celebrating 75 years of Formula One so I'm in there somewhere.

01:33Every driver wants to be world champion but I don't think they fully appreciate what it means to be

01:40one of the winners in such a prestigious sport as Formula One.

01:46You're aware of the journey we've been on and what I've been able to drag out of myself.
