00:00U.S. President Donald Trump says he doesn't have plans to extend the 90-day tariff pause beyond the July 9th deadline.
00:08He instead would opt for sending countries letters detailing the trade penalties they face.
00:14Speaking on Fox News, Trump said those letters will outline tariff rates based on trade deficits and treatment of American goods,
00:22suggesting some cases may not need further negotiations.
00:25The U.S. President had previously talked about sending similar letters in May and earlier this month, though negotiations continued.
00:33On Friday, Trump also downplayed the deadline, saying it would be difficult to strike individual deals with so many nations,
00:41despite his administration's goal of reaching 90 deals in 90 days.
00:45As countries scramble to make deals with the U.S., China, meanwhile, has issued a fresh warning,
00:51urging that its interests must not be used as bargaining chips.
00:55Beijing said it will take firm countermeasures if targeted and is calling for fair rules-based negotiations under the multilateral trading system.
