00:00Three people were killed when a boat capsized off Pulau Perhentian on Saturday night.
00:05Besut Police Chief, Superintendent Azamuddin Ahmad alias Abu,
00:09said the tragedy is believed to have occurred at around 10.30 p.m.
00:14The boat, which was carrying 16 people, including the boatman,
00:19capsized during a storm with heavy rain and rough seas.
00:23Twelve others, including a six-year-old who is in critical condition,
00:27were rescued and rushed to Besut Hospital for urgent treatment.
00:32Investigations revealed that none of the passengers were wearing life jackets at the time of the incident.
00:38The boat operator, a local man in his 20s, has been detained.
00:42He tested positive for drugs and has five prior records related to drug offenses.
