00:00The Kansas City Chiefs may have missed the mark with their left tackle pick last year,
00:04but 2025 is already looking different, and way more promising. Last year, the Chiefs took a shot
00:11with BYU's Kingsley Swamitaya in the second round. He had potential but struggled big time when
00:17thrown into real NFL action. This time around, KC didn't hesitate to invest big, grabbing Ohio
00:24State tackle Josh Simmons in the first round, even with some injury concerns hanging over him.
00:30And guess what? Early signs say they might have hit the jackpot.
00:34Simmons suffered a season-ending patellar tendon injury last year during Ohio State's
00:39championship run. But since arriving in Kansas City, he's shown major progress,
00:45and he's already turning heads during OTAs and minicamp. One of his biggest fans?
00:50None other than Travis Kelsey. On the New Heights podcast with his brother Jason,
00:56Kelsey said Simmons was giving scout team looks at defensive end, and even in that role,
01:01he brought the intensity. He was just playing his gap, being locked in and being a pro,
01:08Kelsey said. And I felt that man's hands grab me and I was like, all right, I gotta come with it.
01:14Even just giving the look, he was strong enough to make me plant my feet.
01:18That's a serious compliment coming from a guy like Kelsey. But it doesn't stop there.
01:24Jason Kelsey, a future Hall of Fame center himself, chimed in two, and compared Simmons to a legend.
01:32He's the closest thing I've seen to a Trent Williams, Jason said. That next level strength
01:38and athleticism. The only reason he felt to you guys was that injury. Coming from a guy who's been
01:44blocking beast for over a decade? Yeah, that's real respect. Even Trey Smith, one of KC's key
01:51interior linemen, has heard the hype. I haven't seen him in action, but I just heard he's unbelievably
01:58strong. Smith said. Trav talking about those hands, that lines up with what I'm hearing.
02:04The talent's there. He's gonna be a great asset. And the Chiefs could seriously use it.
02:10Even though they made their third straight Super Bowl, one of their biggest problems was up front.
02:17The left tackle spot was a revolving door, first trying out Wanya Morris, then pushing
02:22guard Joe Thune to tackle just to plug the hole. It worked, sort of. But in the Super Bowl against
02:28the Eagles, the offensive line was exposed. The Philly pass rush took over, and KC's line
02:35looked average at best. That made GM Brett Veach and Andy Reid rethink things. And they made sure
02:42to prioritize the trenches in this year's draft. Enter Josh Simmons. Athletic, powerful, and full
02:49of upside. His college tape at Ohio State showed real promise. And now, if he stays healthy, he could
02:57be the answer at left tackle. Travis Kelsey thinks it's only just starting for him. Oh yes, baby! Get
03:04him in there, get him ingrained in the culture, Kelsey said. Have some fun while we go and whip some, but...
03:11If Simmons keeps this up, the Chiefs just might have found the missing piece to help protect
03:16Patrick Mahomes, and keep that dynasty rolling.
03:27Patrick Mahomes, and I'm sure they'll come back to him.
03:31Patrick Mahomes, and I'll see you next time in the world, you can get started.
03:34Patrick Mahomesu, and I'll see you next time to check out the official
03:39весь you know.
03:42Patrick Mahomes, and I'll see you next time in the next video.
03:46Patrick Mahomes, how many things have been done?
03:50Pat Mahomes.
03:52Pat Mahomes, and I'll see you next time in the future.
