This is the story of a right-arm fast-medium bowler from Pakistan, known as much for his glasses as for his bowling. After a brilliant domestic season, he earned a place in the 1982 England tour squad but missed the Headingley Test due to injury. His Test debut came against Australia in Lahore, where he took an impressive 5 wickets for 92 runs.

Despite showing early promise, he couldn’t make a lasting mark internationally and played just a handful of Tests over the next couple of years. He was recalled in 1985-86 for a Test against Sri Lanka but managed only one wicket, bringing his international journey to an end.

Interestingly, although his international chances were limited, his One Day International (ODI) stats were better than expected. He remained a top domestic performer throughout his career. Watch this video to revisit the journey of this underrated Pakistani pacer who deserved more recognition!

03:08He was in connection to play the Headingley test, but an untimely injury kept him out of playing 11.
03:14His test debut finally came later that year, in the winter of 1982 against Australia in Lahore.
03:21He made an impression start, finishing five wickets for 92 runs in the match.
03:26An encouraging sign of potential, however, that promise did not quite translate into long-term international success.
03:33Over the next two years, he featured in four more test matches, but struggled to make a big impact.
03:40Despite that, he remained a consistent performer in Pakistan's domestic circuit, continuing to showcase his bowling talent.
03:47In the 1985-86 season, he was given one lost opportunity when he was recalled for the first time against Australia.
03:55Unfortunately, he managed to take just a single wicket, and that match turned out to be his last appearance on the international stage.
04:03Interestingly, though his appearance in one-day internationals were limited, his record in the format was quite respectable,
04:10better than expected for someone who had so few chances to shine.
04:14But Jalaluddin's name is aged in cricket history for a special reason.
04:18He was the first-ever baller to take a hat-trick in one-day international.
04:22This historic moment happened on September 20, 1982 against Australia at Niaz Stadium, Hyderabad,
04:28a rare feat that still earns him a place among cricket's pioneers.
