00:10Lib Dems win surprise victory in Edinburgh Council by-election.
00:14The Liberal Democrats have won a surprise victory in the Fountainbridge-Craig-Lockhart by-election for Edinburgh Council.
00:20Retired water scientist Kevin McKay emerged the winner, in what turned out to be a close three-horse race.
00:25He narrowly squeezed out Labour and the Greens to win an award where the Lib Dems had finished fifth, at the last council elections in 2022.
00:34Mr McKay, who is treasurer of Craig-Lockhart Community Council, said he wanted to
00:39make Edinburgh great again, and named potholes and parking as two of the key issues which people were concerned about in the ward.

01:27directly next to another proposed student block in Newington.
01:30SDR Property Developments' Lucian Related has applied for planning permission for the demolition of existing buildings,
01:36and erection of a purpose-built student accommodation at Ratcliffe Terrace and South Grey Street.
