Jeremie Frimpong is confident he can step into the “big shoes” left by Trent Alexander-Arnold in Liverpool’s defence.
The 24-year-old was Liverpool’s first signing under Arne Slot following their Premier League title win, arriving from Bayer Leverkusen shortly after Alexander-Arnold’s high-profile move to Real Madrid.
Despite this, Frimpong faces stiff competition for the right-back spot, notably from Alexander-Arnold’s former understudy Conor Bradley.

00:07in Liverpool's defence. The 24-year-old was Liverpool's first signing under Arnie Schlott
00:13following their Premier League title win, arriving from Bayer Leverkusen shortly after
00:18Alexander-Arnold's high-profile move to Real Madrid. Despite this, Fringpong faces stiff
00:25competition for the right-back spot, notably from Alexander-Arnold's former understudy Connor
00:30Bradley. But Fringpong's self-belief is unwavering. Speaking, he said,
00:35It's big shoes, but it's Liverpool. It's a big team who win trophies for a reason. If you play for
00:42Liverpool, you have to fill in the shoes and perform. I've always believed in myself and I'm a winner.
00:48That's what I'll bring. He spent nine years in Manchester City's Youth Academy before making
00:53his senior debut with Celtic in 2019, helping them win the Scottish Premiership in his first season.
01:01In 2021, he moved to Leverkusen where he was part of a squad that went unbeaten to claim the
01:07Bundesliga title in 2023-24. Fringpong can also operate as a winger, adding versatility to Liverpool's
01:14squad. His move is part of a duo from Leverkusen with Florian Wirtz joining for a club record 100
01:20million. The two are close friends recently holidaying together on Wirtz. Fringpong said,
01:26He's my boy. He's a winner. A very, very special player and very hardworking. The league will
01:32love him.
01:33Liverpool haven't got that problem this summer. Now, maybe not everyone's going to be back on
01:37the 8th of July because of internationals. Maybe they give players a little bit longer,
01:43but the majority are going to be back before Liverpool go away to pre-season and they can work on things
01:48from there and that'll be massive. Fringpong feels motivated by Liverpool's legacy. To go from
01:54watching them playing to playing for them is crazy. The manager has told me how I can help the team
01:59and he really likes me as a player. It's given me extra motivation and self-belief. He is ready to
02:06embrace the challenge, eager to contribute to Liverpool's continued success and build his own
02:11legacy at Anfield.
